        Polymorphism of Insulin-like Growth Factor-I Gene in 13 Pig Breeds and its Relationship with Pig Growth and Carcass Traits

        The polymorphism of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in 13 pig breeds (total n=559) was detected by PCR-Hha I- RFLP, and allele A (151 bp and 28 bp) or allele B (116 bp, 35 bp and 28 bp) were observed. In these pig breeds, it was found that European pig breeds carried high frequencies of allele B, while Chinese native pig breeds carried high frequencies of allele A. Meanwhile the role of porcine IGF-I was investigated in 117 Nanchang White pigs and 360 Large Yorkshire pigs. Eight traits about growth and carcass were recorded for analyzing the associations between IGF-I gene polymorphism and performance quantitative traits. In the Nanchang White pigs, those with AA genotype generally had higher birth weight than those with AB genotype (p<0.05), but all these genotypes had no significant effect on the other traits which had been analyzed. In Large Yorkshire pigs, those with BB genotype had higher 2 months and 6 months body weight than those with AA genotype (p<0.05), and had a thicker hind-back-fat thickness and mid-back-thickness than those with AB and BB genotypes (p<0.05). And those with BB genotype were the thinnest in Large Yorkshire. Furthermore, pigs with AA genotype had a lower lean percentage than those with AB and BB genotypes (p<0.01), and the lean percentage of those with BB genotype was the highest. Based on these results, it is possible to make the IGF-I gene locus into the application of marker-assisted selection programmes.

        Infrared-to-visible upconversion enhanced photothermal catalytic degradation of toluene over Yb3+, Er3+: CeO2/attapulgite nanocomposite: Effect of rare earth doping

        Developing low cost and efficient strategy to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are quite urgent and challenging. Herein, CeO2 nanoparticles co-doped with Yb3+ and Er3+ were immobilized on attapulgite clay (ATP) for photothermal catalytic oxidation of toluene. The CeO2:Yb3+, Er3+/ATP exhibited outstanding catalytic activity with low T90 of 295 °C (temperature at 90% degradation), satisfactory stability and highly water resistance. The enhanced photothermal catalytic performance can be attributed to the optimal introduction of Yb3+ and Er3+, which promoted the up-conversion of near-infrared light (NIR) to visible light increasing the light utilization. The defects caused by Yb3+/Er3+ doping facilitated the adsorption of O2, while the active oxygen species generated from the defects and the photoinduced reactive species not only favored the oxidation of toluene in photothermal catalytic process, but also accelerated the reoxidation of reduced catalyst. Notably ATP support provided large specific surface area and abundant adsorption sites for toluene molecules to promote the deep oxidation and hindered the deactivation of catalysts caused by the accumulation of intermediates. In-situ DRIFTS test revealed that the alkoxide and benzoate appeared as the main intermediates, which can be deeply oxidized under light irradiation. Current work provides a new alternative for photothermal catalytic degradation of VOCs.

        Polymorphism of Growth Hormone Gene in 12 Pig Breeds and Its Relationship with Pig Growth and Carcass Traits

        The polymorphism of the growth hormone gene in 12 pig breeds (total n=475) was detected by PCR-Apa I-RFLP, and allele A (449 bp, 101 bp and 55 bp) or allele B (316 bp, 133 bp, 101 bp and 55 bp) were observed. In these pig breeds, we found that European pig breeds had high frequencies of allele B, while Chinese native pig breeds had high frequencies of allele A. In addition, the role of porcine GH was investigated in 117 Nanchang White pigs and 361 Large Yorkshire pigs. Eight traits about growth and carcass were recorded for analyzing associations between GH gene polymorphism and performance quantitative traits. In the Nanchang White pigs, no significant difference was observed between different genotypes and different growth and carcass traits. In Large Yorkshire pigs, those with BB genotype had more lean percentage than pigs with AA genotype (p<0.05). Based on these results, we conclude that the GH locus should be further investigated in commercial breeds to determine its suitability for use in marker-assisted selection programmes.

        Structural Dynamic Response of a Frame Tunnel Under Coupled Impact–Explosion Loading

        As the main structural bodies of underground facilities such as subway stations, frame tunnel structures play an important role in urban development and construction. In recent years, with the frequent occurrence of explosions after vehicle impacts in tunnels, which have caused severe damage to frame tunnels, the lack of relevant papers makes it necessary to develop a dynamic response analysis of frame tunnels. In this paper, by optimizing the design of an original frame tunnel structure, a dynamic response numerical model of the frame tunnel considering the impact effect of a 3D solidified vehicle and the joint effect is investigated. The deformation trend and damage evolution of the frame tunnel are analysed under different collision masses (1.4, 2.4, 6 and 15 t), collision angles (5, 10, 15 and 75°), collision speeds (60, 80 and 100 km/h), blast delay times (10, 20 and 30 ms) and blast equivalents (50, 100 and 200 kg TNT). This paper improves the active and passive robustness of frame tunnels using both improved operational management and the optimal design of the tunnel structure as a way to ensure the structural safety and functional resilience of frame tunnels.

        Metabolomics reveals potential plateau adaptability by regulating inflammatory response and oxidative stress-related metabolism and energy metabolism pathways in yak

        Species are facing strong selection pressures to adapt to inhospitable high-altitude environments. Yaks are a valuable species and an iconic symbol of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Extensive studies of high-altitude adaptation have been conducted, but few have focused on metabolism. In the present study, we determined the differences in the serum metabolomics between yaks and the closely related species of low-altitude yellow cattle and dairy cows. We generated high-quality metabolite profiling data for 36 samples derived from the three species, and a clear separation trend was obtained between yaks and the other animals from principal component analysis. In addition, we identified a total of 63 differentially expressed metabolites among the three species. Functional analysis revealed that differentially expressed metabolites were related to the innate immune activation, oxidative stress-related metabolism, and energy metabolism in yaks, which indicates the important roles of metabolites in high-altitude adaptation in yaks. The results provide new insights into the mechanism of adaptation or acclimatization to high-altitude environments in yaks and hypoxia-related diseases in humans.

        Investigation of Large-scale Transmission Tower Grounding Grid with High Amplitude and Uniform Flowing Impulse Current

        Impulse characteristic of transmission tower grounding grid is needed for lightning protection of transmission line. This paper describes an outdoor experimental test facility established for large-scale grounding grid of transmission tower, made up of four impulse current generators and a circle current return electrode. The amplitude of impulse current is up to 100 kA. The results of the CDEGS simulation and GPR measurement reveal the uniform current distribution in the test arrangement. An impulse test for a square electrode with extended conductors is carried out in condition of three current waveforms with different amplitude. Based on the electrical network model and iterative algorithm method, a calculation model is proposed to simulate the impulse characteristic of large-scale grounding grid considering soil ionization. The curve of impulse resistance against the current amplitude shows the soil ionization both from the simulation and test. Deviation between the simulation and test result is less than 15%.

        For extending the power and improving the performance of SVG, a topology with several parallel plugging convertor modules is obtained, which has no common DC bus. In respect that the parameter difference among converters, reactive power of total output sharing has to be resolved. In this article, mathematics model with DQ analytic transformation is analyzed. Based on double close-loop decoupling control, and direct current control, a reactive power balance current sharing method is proposed. By using CPS-SPWM, the current harmonic of SVG is reduced, which is indicated by simulation result. Further, in order to apply the method to project application, a 2Mvar platform with a double FPGA-DSP controller broad is carried out. The simulation and practical performance of SVG are given. The validity and feasibility of the method is demonstrated by the results.

        Case Study on Rock Support Technology for Roadways Based on Characteristics of Plastic Area

        Rocks surrounding deep, high-stress roadways typically undergo a vicious cycle of destruction → repair → re-destruction → re-repair over a long time. This article uses the roadway restoration project of Pingmei Mine No. 6 (400 m underground) as research object. Starting from the plastic area, the characteristics of the distribution of rock surrounding the circular roadway are analyzed, and the influence of the side pressure coefficient, cohesive force, inside friction angle, support strength, and roadway radius on the plastic area is studied. Four types of distribution patterns were observed in rocks surrounding the plastic area of the roadway: round, oval, rounded rectangle, and butterfly. The side pressure coefficient, cohesive force, and inside friction angle affected the distribution and range of rocks surrounding the plastic area of the roadway. The support radius of the roadway and the support strength of its face did not change the distribution of the plastic area, but only affected its size. Therefore, to maintain the long-term stability of weak and broken roadways, the strength of the surrounding rocks must be increased, and roadway renovation should be avoided as it affects the distribution of the plastic area and reduces its scope. Engineering practice has shown that the “anchor net spray + hollow grouting anchor cable” technology for the combined, step-by-step repair and support of roadways, with a hollow grouting anchor cable as core, can suppress the distribution and scope of the plastic area to guarantee safe and long-term use of the roadway.

        Use of software-defined radio receivers in two-way satellite time and frequency transfers for UTC computation

        <P>Two-way satellite time and frequency transfer (TWSTFT) is a primary technique for the generation of coordinated universal time (UTC). About 20 timing laboratories around the world continuously operate TWSTFT using satellite time and ranging equipment (SATRE<SUP>19</SUP>) modems for remote time and frequency comparisons in this context. The precision of the SATRE TWSTFT as observed today is limited by an apparent daily variation pattern (diurnal) in the TWSTFT results. The observed peak-to-peak variation have been found as high as 2 ns in some cases. Investigations into the origins of the diurnals have so far provided no complete understanding about the cause of the diurnals. One major contributor to the diurnals, however, could be related to properties of the receive part in the modem. In 2014 and 2015, it was demonstrated that bypassing the receive part and the use of software-defined radio (SDR) receivers in TWSTFT ground stations (SDR TWSTFT) instead could considerably reduce both the diurnals and the measurement noise.</P> <P>In 2016, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the Consultative Committee for Time and Frequency (CCTF) working group (WG) on TWSTFT launched a pilot study on the application of SDR receivers in the TWSTFT network for UTC computation.</P> <P>The first results of the pilot study were reported to the CCTF WG on TWSTFT annual meeting in May 2017, demonstrating that SDR TWSTFT shows superior performance compared to that of SATRE TWSTFT for practically all links between participating stations. In particular, for continental TWSTFT links, in which the strongest diurnals appear, the use of SDR TWSTFT results in a significant suppression of the diurnals by a factor of between two and three. For the very long inter-continental links, e.g. the Europe-to-USA links where the diurnals are less pronounced, SDR TWSTFT achieved a smaller but still significant gain of 30%. These findings are supported by an evaluation of some of the links with an alternate technique based on GPS signals (GPS IPPP) as reported in this paper.</P> <P>Stimulated by these results, the WG on TWSTFT prepared a recommendation for the 21st CCTF meeting, which proposed the introduction of SDR TWSTFT in UTC generation. With CCTF approval of the recommendation, a roadmap was developed for the implementation of SDR TWSTFT in UTC generation. In accordance with the roadmap, most of the stations that participated in the pilot study have updated the SDR TWSTFT settings to facilitate the use of SDR TWSTFT data in UTC generation. In addition, the BIPM conducted a final evaluation to validate the long-term stability of SDR TWSTFT links, made test runs using the BIPM standard software for the calculation of UTC, now including SDR TWSTFT data, and started to calculate SDR TWSTFT time links as backup from October 2017. The use of SDR TWSTFT in UTC generation will begin in 2018.</P>

      • Reactive Power-Voltage Integrated Control Method Based on MCR

        In power system, the voltage pulsation and deficiency or surplus of reactive power will have a great effect on the quality of electric power supply. Dynamicly local reactive power compensation is one of the best methods to reduce the power network loss and improve the efficiency of transmission and distribution.Through the effective methods of compensation, we can keep the balance of reactive power in the maximum degree by the maintenance of acceptable voltage. This paper firstly describes the principles of synthetic compensation of reactive power and voltage then analyzes the principle of magnetically controlled reactor-MCR in detail and derives the characteristics, secondly analyses the disadvantages of the conventional reactive power compensation devices and the advantages of MCR, thirdly on this basis designs a control strategy of reactive power and voltage which is based on MCR,so as to achieve the goal of dynamic reactive power compensation. At the end of paper, simulator and experimental research are carried out for the model of compensation method; the results accord with the theoretical analyses done before. So the compensation method is proved to be accurate in theory and feasible in practice.
