The joint action and sublethal effects of methoxyfenozide and lufenuron were measured against Spodoptera exigua. Methoxyfenozide and lufenuron exhibited optimum synergistic toxicity on S. exigua at a mass ratio of 4:6, and the co-toxicity coefficient (CTC) was 165.705. Third instars larvae of S. exigua were treated with methoxyfenozide (LC 15 = 21.004 ng/cm 2 ), lufenuron (LC 15 = 27.134 ng/cm 2 ), or a mixture of methoxyfenozide and lufenuron (MML, LC 15 = 16.503 ng/cm 2 ) through feeding for 72 h. Ingestion of MML by larvae significantly inhibited larval and pupal weights and pupation rate, and prolonged the larval and pupal development of S. exigua compared to individual treatment ofmethoxyfenozide or lufenuron. Both methoxyfenozide and MML treatments significantly decreased the fertility of female S. exigua. No significant changes were observed in case of adult emergence and egg hatching for different treatments. The MML-treated S. exigua exhibited significantly lower activities of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and cytochrome P450 (CYP450) than those in S. exigua treated separately with methoxyfenozide or lufenuron. Finally, methoxyfenozide, lufenuron, and MML treatments decreased chitinase, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), carboxylesterase (CarE), and glutathione-s-transferase (GST) activities in S. exigua.
Calendar anomaly in China emerging market using stochastic domenance analysis

With stochastic dominance approach, this paper gives empirical analysis for calendar anomalies in China stock market using Shanghai Stock Composite lndex during 1993 and 2008. Compared with other methods used in previous literatures, stochastic dominance avoids biased conclusion resulted from non-normality in return distribution. Our study shows that there exists a day-of-the-week effect, with the highest return of Friday and the lowest of Monday; and within-month effect with significant higher returns for the first week in a month than other three weeks. In addition, we find February effect instead of January exists in China stock market.

The microstructure and mechanical properties of micro-alloyed Mg-0.5 wt%Ce alloys are investigated systemically in this study. It shows that Mg-Ce binary system is very sensitive to extrusion temperature. On the one hand, the high tensile yield strength (TYS) of 343 MPa was obtained by extrusion at 250 °C mainly due to the combined effects of profuse nano-precipitation phase, grain refinement, texture strengthening and high-density dislocation; On the other hand, the excellent elongation of 30% was acquired by extrusion at 300 °C resulting from the elimination of dislocations as well as the modification of texture.

This paper investigates the progressive damage of filament wound composite tubes embedded within metal joints. Finite element analysis (FEA) modellings were provided through CADWIND filament wound simulation software, and progressive damage analysis of composite tubes was carried out using the Puck criterion under tensile loading. Besides, the ultimate tensile loading of composite tube was carried out. It was found that the inside metal joint extruded the outer composite layers, which resulted in further failure damage of the composite tubes. Furthermore, thickening the composite layer outside metal joint was beneficial to improve the tensile load of the composite tube. Moreover, the numerical results of the FEA provided a reasonably good agreement with the experimental results, which was less than 10 % on the ultimate tensile loading value. Finally, the FEA with the Puck criterion was suitable to predict the progressive damage of filament wound composite tube embedded with metal joints.
Green’s Function for a Metamaterial Superlens: Evanescent Wave in the Image

We develop a new method to calculate the evanescent wave, the subdivided evanescent waves (SEWs), and the radiative wave, which can be obtained by separating the global field of the image of a metamaterial superlens. The method is based on the Green’s function, and it can be applied to other linear systems. This study could help us to investigate the effect of an evanescent wave on a metamaterial superlens directly and give us a new way to design new devices.

Treatment of androgen-independent prostate cancer (AIPC) remains unsatisfactory. In our present experiment, natural occurring ginsenosides (NOGs) and intestinal bacterial metabolites (IBMs) were employed to investigate their anti-AIPC cell growth activity using PC-3 cells. Our results showed that the IBMs exerted more portent anti-AIPC activity than NOGs, by decreasing survival rate, inhibiting proliferation, inducing apoptosis, and leading to cell cycle arrest in AIPC PC-3 cells. The increase of LogP and decrease of C-6 steric hindrance, which were caused by deglycosylation by intestinal bacteria, may be the reason for the higher anti-AIPC activity of IBMs.

A novel solving technique has been developed to analyze the dynamic characteristics of high speed Thomson-coil arc eliminator. The electromagnetic repulsion actuator based on Thomson-coil is taken as the driving part of the arc eliminator, due to which, the opening and closing time is quite short compare to other type actuators. The electromagnetic repulsion actuator is composed of one repulsion plate and two fixed coils, corresponding to the opening coil and closing coil, respectively. The new solving technique is derived based on the equivalent electric circuit model of the system which is set up by dividing the repulsion plate into multi segments using adaptive segmentation method. This solving technique is applied to the dynamic characteristic analysis of electromagnetic repulsion actuators in high speed Thomson-coil arc eliminators. The calculation results are testified by the FEM calculation results and experiment results.
