The change of quality characteristics in snakehead fillets were investigated during brining, ultrasound, and ultrasound-assisted brining processing. Results showed that ultrasound and brine had significantly impact on the tissue microstructure and the color parameter of fillets. Compared to 60-min marination in deionized water, the shear force was reduced by 17.67 g by ultrasound, compared to 80-min marination in deionized water, the shear force was reduced by 28.68 g by brine. Brine significantly increased the water-holding capacity of fish fillets. Ultrasound resulted in increased random coils, β-turn and hydrophobic interaction, while brine significantly promoted the formation of the α-helix structure. The increase of the thermal stability of the myosin head was due to the synergistic effect of ultrasound and brine, but the decrease of the thermal stability of actin only associated with brine. The study provides the reference for the application of ultrasound-assisted brining technology to aquatic industry.

Two 3-methytetrahydrophtalimide-functional benzoxazine monomers containing nitrile group have been prepared in order to achieve the basic design rules for developing high-performance thermosets via multifunctional benzoxazines. The chemical structures of the two new synthesized benzoxazine monomers have been confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and FT-IR. Besides, the polymerization behavior has been studied by using DSC and in situ FT-IR. In addition, the thermal stability and flame retardant properties of the resulting polybenzoxazines have also been investigated using TGA and MCC. The polybenzoxazine based on ortho-3-methytetrahydrophtalimide functional benzoxazine containing ortho-nitrile group exhibits excellent thermal stability and low flammability, with a Td10 of 378 °C and a HRC value of 180 J/(g K).

Purpose: Adipogenic differentiation of adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AMSCs) is critical to many disease-relateddisorders, such as obesity and diabetes. Studies have demonstrated that miRNA-138 (miR-138) is closely involved in adipogenesis. However, the mechanisms affected by miR-138 remain unclear. This work aimed to investigate interactions between miR-138and lipoprotein lipase (LPL), a key lipogenic enzyme, in AMSCs. Materials and Methods: Human AMSCs (hAMSCs) isolated from human abdomen tissue were subjected to adipogenic differentiationmedium. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot assay were applied to measure the expressionsof miR-138, LPL, and the two adipogenic transcription factors cytidine-cytidine-adenosine-adenosine-thymidine enhancerbinding protein alpha (C/EBPα) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ). The relationship between miR-138 and LPL was predicted utilizing the miRTarBase database and validated by dual luciferase reporter assay. Results: Showing increases in C/EBPα and PPARγ expression levels, hAMSCs were induced into adipogenic differentiation. Duringadipogenesis of hAMSCs, miR-138 expression was significantly downregulated. Overexpression of miR-138 by transfection inhibitedhAMSCs adipogenic differentiation in vitro. Mechanically, LPL was a target of miR-138. LPL expression was upregulated duringadipogenesis of hAMSCs, and this upregulation was reversed by miR-138 overexpression. Functionally, silencing of LPL by transfectionexerted similar inhibition of the expressions of C/EBPα and PPARγ. Meanwhile, LPL ectopic expression was able to partlyabolish the suppressive effect of miR-138 overexpression on adipogenic differentiation of hAMSCs. Conclusion: Upregulation of miR-138 inhibits adipogenic differentiation of hAMSCs by directly downregulating LPL.

<B>Abstract</B><P>We present a measurement of the anisotropic and isotropic Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey Data Release 14 quasar sample with optimal redshift weights. Applying the redshift weights improves the constraint on the BAO dilation parameter α(zeff) by 17 per cent. We reconstruct the evolution history of the BAO distance indicators in the redshift range of 0.8 < z < 2.2. This paper is part of a set that analyses the eBOSS DR14 quasar sample.</P>
Mathematical modeling of torque for single screw expanders

This paper presents a mathematical model of torque for Single screw expanders (SSEs). Instantaneous torque and torque ratio were analyzed and discussed. The periodic variation of instantaneous torque is the same for different inlet pressure levels. The torque ratio, with its value close to 1, is independent of the inlet pressure of SSE. An experimental system was established to measure the torque, power and shaft efficiency of the self-developed SSE prototype, and results were used to validate the model. Comparison shows that the difference between calculated and experimental torque values is small (6.58 N.m to 7.55 N.m). The calculated and experimental output power is similar, with a difference of 2.07 kW to 2.37 kW. Therefore, the proposed model can be used to estimate the torque and output power of SSEs.

Background/Aims The distribution and esophageal motor characteristics of Chinese patients with esophageal dysphagia who exhibit no structural abnormalities on esophagogastroduodenoscopy remain unclear. Our aim is to assess the esophageal motor patterns using high-resolution manometry (HRM) and classify them according to the Chicago classification version 3.0 (CC v3.0). Furthermore, we compared the CC v3.0 and the previous version 2.0 (CC v2.0) for diagnosis of motor disorders. Methods Two hundred thirty-six (mean age 48.4 ± 12.2 years, 61.9% female) patients with esophageal dysphagia were included for analysis of motor function using HRM. All participants were administered a questionnaire to determine Eckardt scores before HRM. Results According to the CC v3.0, 57 (24.2%) patients showed evidence of esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction and were classified as Group 1. Eighteen (7.6%) patients with major disorders of peristalsis were classified as Group 2. Minor disorders of peristalsis (Group 3) were much more frequent (129 [54.7%] patients). Thirty-two (13.6%) patients had normal esophageal manometry were classified as Group 4. All patients with abnormal pH or pH impedance monitoring (n = 44) had minor motor disorders (ineffective esophageal motility [IEM] = 34, fragmented peristalsis = 10). Based on motor category, the Eckardt score was 4.7 ± 0.1 in Group 1, 4.5 ± 0.3 in Group 2, 3.5 ± 0.1 in Group 3, and 3.9 ± 0.1 in Group 4. Conclusions IEM was the most common esophageal motor disorder in patients with esophageal dysphagia who showed no structural abnormality on endoscopy. While a high Eckardt score suggests outflow obstruction or a major motor disorder, a low score suggests IEM.

Ion exchange membranes (IEMs) composed of sulfonated poly (ether sulfone) (SPES) and N-phthaloyl chitosan (NPHCs) were synthesized. NPHCs was employed in membrane fabrication to improve the porosity and hydrophilicity of membranes. The effect of blend ratio of sulfonation (DS) and NPHCs content on physico-chemical characteristics of home-made membranes was investigated. The morphology of prepared membranes was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM images revealed the formation of a more porous membrane structure and smoother surface. The electrochemical and physical properties of CEMs were characterized comprising water content, contact angle, ion exchange capacity (IEC) and thermal stability. Membrane water content, surface hydrophilicity and IEC were enhanced with increase of DS and NPHCs blend ratios in casting solution. Furthermore, the diffusion coefficient was also improved slightly with increase of DS and NPHCs blend ratios in prepared membranes. Membrane potential, permselectivity, transport number and areal membrane resistance all showed decreasing trends by the increase in NPHCs blend ratio in casting solution. These results indicated that the prepared membrane has good prospective and great potential for desalination in electrodialysis applications.
