Facile synthesis of ZnBi2O4-graphite composites as highly active visible-light photocatalyst for the mineralization of rhodamine B

Nguyen Thi Mai Tho,Bui The Huy,Dang Nguyen Nha Khanh,Ho Nguyen Nhat Ha,Vu Quang Huy,Ngo Thi Tuong Vy,Do Manh Huy,Duong Phuoc Dat,Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.12

Novel highly active visible-light photocatalysts in the form of zinc bismuth oxide (ZnBi2O4) and graphite hybrid composites were prepared by coupling via a co-precipitation method followed by calcination at 450 oC. The asprepared ZnBi2O4-graphite hybrid composites were tested for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) solutions under visible-light irradiation. The existence of strong electronic coupling between the two components within the ZnBi2O4- graphite heterostructure suppressed the photogenerated recombination of electrons and holes to a remarkable extent. The prepared composite exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity, leading to more than 93% of RhB degradation at an initial concentration of 50mg·L1 with 1.0 g catalyst per liter in 150min. The excellent visible-light photocatalytic mineralization of ZnBi2O4-1.0graphite in comparison with pristine ZnBi2O4 could be attributed to synergetic effects, charge transfer between ZnBi2O4 and graphite, and the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electrons and holes. The photo-induced h+ and the superoxide anion were the major active species responsible for the photodegradation process. The results demonstrate the feasibility of ZnBi2O4-1.0graphite as a potential heterogeneous photocatalyst for environmental remediation.

The Effect of Institutional Capability on Entrepreneurship Education: An Empirical Study of Vietnamese Universities

Trong Luan NGUYEN,Trung Hau NGUYEN,Thao Vy THACH,Doan Vy TRAN,Nguyen Huong Giang HOANG,Ngoc Phuong Trang PHAM 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.1

Entrepreneurs are valuable assets for any country. Rather than being confronted with new obstacles, they should be fostered and nurtured. Entrepreneurial firms have the power to influence how we live and work, in addition to producing jobs and contributing to economic progress. Entrepreneurs have the ability to change the world by creating diversified skill sets and profitable businesses that are vital to the advancement of our economies. How does one go about being a successful business, though? More resources are believed to be needed to create entrepreneurial environments in higher education that foster progressive ideas and innovation while also providing students with the practical knowledge and skills they need to navigate the troublesome, difficult, and uncertain situations that come with owning a business. This article will outline the scales of components from which to measure variables impacting universities’ ability to encourage entrepreneurial behavior among students, based on the aforementioned significance of universities. This article is based on a survey of 507 students from different universities and backgrounds in Vietnam. The research methods used are Cronbach’s alpha test and Structural Equation Modeling. From the research results, it can be seen that the university’s environment plays a significant role in fostering entrepreneurial behavior among students.

Factors Affecting Green Entrepreneurship Intentions During the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Empirical Study in Vietnam

Trong Luan NGUYEN,Nguyen Anh Ngu PHAM,Thi Kim Nhung NGUYEN,Ngoc Khai Vy NGUYEN,Hoang Thang NGO,Tran Thien Ly PHAM 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.2

At present, environmental problems are gradually becoming quite serious because of the expansion of the business scale of companies, factories, and enterprises, and that is also the reason for the global pollution of the world. Green entrepreneurship is playing an increasingly crucial role in influencing people’s intentions, behaviors, and attitudes toward environmental protection through sustainable development. The purpose of this research was to examine the factors affecting university students’ green entrepreneurship levels in Vietnam. To do this, we performed a scientific research survey with 773 students from reputable universities in Vietnam, 337 of whom are male and 436 of whom are female. To assess the reliability and correlation between observed and total variables, this study employs scale testing methods such as Cronbach alpha, EFA, CFA, and SEM. After evaluating the influencing elements, the findings reveal that the Subjective norm factor and the Risk-aversion component are two distinct aspects that influence university students’ green entrepreneurship intentions in Vietnam and of which, the greatest influence is Risk Aversion. Furthermore, the findings revealed that the level of interest in green entrepreneurship is mostly seen by students with university education between the ages of 18–25.

      • Palladium-catalyzed reductive carbonylation of nitrobenzene for producing isocyanate

( Nguyen Thanh Tung ),( Anh Vy Tran ),( Thuy Tram Huynh Nguyen ),김용진 한국공업화학회 2016 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2016 No.0

Organic isocyanates (R-NCO) have achieved great commercial importance as chemical intermediates in the manufacture of many useful chemicals. The conventional route has now been proven to have many serious problems, such as the use of extremely toxic phosgene in the carbonylation step and the byproduction of a large amount of corrosive hydrochloric acid. One attractive alternative method is direct carbonylation with carbon monoxide, because it can provide a one-step conversion of nitro aromatics to the isocyanate without the use of dangerous phosgene. In this research we present the direct reductive carbonylation of nitrobenzene to phenyl isocyanate using various types of palladium catalysts.

Differences in liver and mortality outcomes of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease by race and ethnicity: A longitudinal real-world study

        Vy H. Nguyen,Isaac Le,Audrey Ha,Richard Hieu Le,Nicholas Ajit Rouillard,Ashley Fong,Surya Gudapati,Jung Eun Park,Mayumi Maeda,Scott Barnett,Ramsey Cheung,Mindie H. Nguyen 대한간학회 2023 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.29 No.4

Background/Aims: Understanding of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) continues to expand, but the relationship between race and ethnicity and NAFLD outside the use of cross-sectional data is lacking. Using longitudinal data, we investigated the role of race and ethnicity in adverse outcomes in NAFLD patients. Methods: Patients with NAFLD confirmed by imaging via manual chart review from any clinics at Stanford University Medical Center (1995–2021) were included. Primary study outcomes were incidence of liver events and mortality (overall and non-liver related). Results: The study included 9,340 NAFLD patients: White (44.1%), Black (2.29%), Hispanic (27.9%), and Asian (25.7%) patients. For liver events, the cumulative 5-year incidence was highest among White (19.1%) patients, lowest among Black (7.9%) patients, and similar among Asian and Hispanic patients (~15%). The 5-year and 10-year cumulative overall mortality was highest for Black patients (9.2% and 15.0%, respectively, vs. 2.5–3.5% and 4.3–7.3% in other groups) as well as for non-liver mortality. On multivariable regression analysis, compared to White patients, only Asian group was associated with lower liver-related outcomes (aHR: 0.83, P=0.027), while Black patients were at more than two times higher risk of both non-liver related (aHR: 2.35, P=0.010) and overall mortality (aHR: 2.13, P=0.022) as well as Hispanic patients (overall mortality: aHR: 1.44, P=0.022). Conclusions: Compared to White patients, Black patients with NAFLD were at the highest risk for overall and non-liverrelated mortality, followed by Hispanic patients with Asian patients at the lowest risk for all adverse outcomes. Culturally sensitive and appropriate programs may be needed for more successful interventions.

Evaluation Factors Influencing Construction Price Index in Fuzzy Uncertainty Environment

NGUYEN, Phong Thanh,HUYNH, Vy Dang Bich,NGUYEN, Quyen Le Hoang Thuy To Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.2

In recent years, Vietnam's economic growth rate has been attributed to the growth of many well-managed industries within Southeast Asia. Among them is the civil construction industry. Construction projects typically take a long time to complete and require a huge budget. Many socio-economic variables and factors affect total construction project costs due to market fluctuations. In recent years, crucial socioeconomic development indicators of construction reached a fairly high growth rate. Also, most infrastructure and construction projects have a high degree of complexity and uncertainty. This makes it challenging to predict the accurate project price. These challenges raise the need to recognize significant factors that influence the construction price index of civil buildings in Vietnam, both micro and macro. Therefore, this paper presents critical factors that affect the construction price index using the fuzzy extent analysis process in an uncertain environment. This proposed quantitative model is expected to reflect the uncertainty in the process of evaluating and ranking the influencing factors of the construction price index in Vietnam. The research results would also allow project stakeholders to be more informed of the factors affecting the construction price index in the context of Vietnam's civil construction industry. They also enable construction contractors to estimate project costs and bid rates better, enhancing their project and risk management performance.

Cytotoxic Effects of Bilberry Extract on MCF7-GFP-Tubulin Breast Cancer Cells

        Vy Nguyen,Jessica Tang,Emin Oroudjev,Choong Jae Lee,Cecilia Marasigan,Leslie Wilson,George Ayoub 한국식품영양과학회 2010 Journal of medicinal food Vol.13 No.2

Bilberry (European blueberry) has been reported to have many biological effects, including anticancer activity. In this study, we investigated the antiproliferative effects of bilberry extract in relation to its ability to induce apoptosis and affect microtubule assembly and organization in MCF7 human breast cancer cells. We observed that bilberry extract inhibited cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent fashion with a 50% inhibitory concentration of 0.3–0.4mg/mL, in concert with induction of apoptotic cell death. At these concentrations there was no selective inhibition of mitosis or any other cell cycle stage, nor was there any apparent effect on the microtubule or actin cytoskeletons. However, somewhat higher extract concentrations (0.5–0.9mg/mL) did cause an increase in the fraction of cells at the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, together with destruction of microtubules and formation of punctate tubulin aggregates in the cells. Bilberry extract at 0.3–0.4mg/mL did not appreciably inhibit microtubule polymerization in vitro, but significant inhibition of polymerization (30%) did occur at higher extract concentrations (0.5–1mg/mL). We conclude that bilberry extract as ingested by humans, not just the purified anthocyanins it contains, inhibits proliferation of and induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells at its lowest effective concentrations via a mechanism that does not involve action on microtubules or on mitosis. We further conclude that at somewhat higher concentrations the extract modifies microtubule organization in cells and causes accumulation of cells at mitosis by a direct action on microtubules.

      • TIME VARYING RELATIONSHIP AMONG INTEREST RATE, EXCHANGE RATE AND STOCK PRICE IN THE VIETNAMESE ECONOMY

Nguyen Nhat Ha Vy,Sang-Kuck Chung 한국재무학회 2019 한국재무학회 학술대회 Vol.2019 No.05

This paper examines the multi-scale relationships among macroeconomic variables the interest rate, the exchange rate and stock price using the Time-varying parameter – Vector autoregressive model. In particular, we apply the TVP-VAR model with the Markov chain Monte Carlo method and the use of monthly data from August 2000 to April 2016 for analyzing the exchange rates, two versions of stock indices and treasury bill interest rates in the Vietnamese economy. Our study shows that there is an increase in the simultaneous relation of the exchange rates to the stock price shock, the positive persistently simultaneous relation of the interest rate to the stock price shock and the negative persistently of the interest rates to the exchange rates. Therefore, there are different macroeconomic performances in the Vietnamese economy, which indicate the possibility of critical structural changes in the economy over time. Besides, remarkable changes in the relations between the macroeconomic variables are shown by the time-varying impulse responses compared with those estimated by a constant parameter VAR.

      • A Journey to Find Justice for Victims of Domestic Violence

Nguyen Phuong Vy 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2016 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 학술대회자료집 Vol.2016 No.7

The Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control in Vietnam has been in effect for nine years, but there still exists a big gap between the law and its implementation. According to the National Study on Domestic Violence Against Women in Vietnam in 2010, 58% of Vietnamese women reported that they have suffered mental, physical or sexual violence once in their lifetime. There are many reasons w hich prevent victims from having access to justice. The first reason is insiders do not dare to speak out about their violence situations. The second reason is the gap between law and law enforcement. Therefore, many violence against women cases have not been solved strictly. This presentation will share CSAGA’s experiences in enhancing access to justice for victims of violence. - Empower victims and their family (help them strengthen psychologically, and give them the knowledge and skills to understand their rights) - Mobilize and connect resources: As a CSO, CSAGA connects to our network with lawyers, social workers, and journalists - who are interested in womens rights and have skills to work with victims - Protect and support victims before, during, and after the process of suing.
