A new compound, kalopanaxin F (3), and 11 known compounds (1, 2, 4-12), were isolated from the stem bark of Kalopanax pictus. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic methods. Five of the compounds (2, 3, 5, 6, and 12) significantly inhibited TNFα-induced NF-κB transcriptional activity in HepG2 cells in a dose-dependent manner, with IC50 values ranging from 6.2 to 9.1 μM. Furthermore, the transcriptional inhibitory function of these compounds was confirmed based on decreases in COX-2 and iNOS gene expression in HepG2 cells. Compounds 3-7, 9, and 12 significantly activated the transcriptional activity of PPARs dose-dependently, with EC50 values ranging from 4.1-12.7 μM. Compounds 4 and 5 exhibited PPARα, PPARγ, and PPARβ(δ) transactivational activities in a dose-dependent manner, with EC50 values of 16.0 and 17.0, 8.7 and 16.5, 26.2 and 26.3 μM, respectively.

Quasi-switched boost inverter was investigated to replace Z-source inverter and switched-boost inverter in the field of low power applications because it uses one-LC-pair less than Z-source inverter. In this paper, we suggest the configuration of H-bridge quasi-switched boost inverter based on high frequency transformer (H-qSBI) to improve voltage gain factor. The proposed topology contains the same devices like switched boost inverter, where the active switch is replaced by an H-bridge inverter. This paper focuses on analyzing quasi-switched boost inverter (qSBI) implementation and simulating the performing results of cascaded single-phase dual-inverter using high frequency transformer by PSIM simulation software. The results are tested by an input DC voltage of 36 V to generate an AC voltage of 220Vrms/50Hz.

<P>One-dimensional magnetoplasmonic nanochains (MPNCs) were self-assembled using Au-coated Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> core–shell superparamagnetic nanoparticles (Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>@Au NPs) by applying an external static magnetic field. The assembly mechanism of the Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>@Au NPs was investigated thoroughly, revealing that substrate–particle interactions, van der Waals forces, and magnetic forces play important roles in the formation and control of the MPNCs. Minh Mang Thang, the Mysterious Vietnamese Prescription Containing Korean Ginseng

Emperor Minh Mang (明命), the second ruler of the Nguyen Dynasty in Vietnam, reigned from 1820 to 1841. He is widely regarded by contemporary historians as the most distinguished monarch of his dynasty, despite some controversial policies. One aspect of his extraordinary legacy is the remarkable 142 offspring he sired - 78 princes and 64 princesses - earning him the unprecedented distinction of having the most progeny among kings in world history. Vietnamese people suppose Minh Mang's prolific reproductive success to the consumption of a specially prescribed medicine known as Minh Mang Thang (明命湯, MMT). This medicine, often associated with sexual potency and fertility, is characterized by intriguing names such as "One night Five sexes ," "One night Six sexes born Five babies ," or "Six sexes Three pregnancies ." Vietnamese folklore vividly recounts Minh Mang's exceptional sexual prowess, attributing it to the use of MMT. MMT formulations, which include various herbs, notably Korean ginseng, may incorporate additional botanical ingredients depending on their intended purpose. This paper aims to explore the origins, history, ingredients, and applications of MMT, unraveling the mystery behind this mystical prescription that has inspired several oriental medicinal researchers. Through this investigation, we seek to shed light on the cultural and historical contexts surrounding Minh Mang's use of MMT and its enduring impact on traditional Vietnamese medicine and folklore. Vietnam boasts a legendary herbal medicine recipe associated with Emperor Minh Mang, bearing the intriguing names "One night Five sexes ",1) "One night Six sexes born Five babies ",2) and "Six sexes Three pregnancies ".3) This unique medicinal concoction, simply known as Minh Mang Thang (MMT),4) has been the subject of numerous handed-down prescriptions. This paper aims to delve into the history, origin, prescription, and uses of MMT.

In Vietnam, the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) took effect in March 2005 while MPOWER has been implemented since 2008. This paper describes the progress and challenges of implementation of the MPOWER package in Vietnam. We can report that, in term of monitoring, Vietnam is very active in the Global Tobacco Surveillance System, completing two rounds of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) and three rounds of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS). To protect people from tobacco smoke, Vietnam has issued and enforced a law requiring comprehensive smoking bans at workplaces and public places since 2013. Tobacco advertising and promotion are also prohibited with the exception of points of sale displays of tobacco products. Violations come in the form of promotion girls, corporate social responsibility activities from tobacco manufacturers and packages displayed by retail vendors. Vietnam is one of the 77 countries that require pictorial health warnings to be printed on cigarette packages to warn about the danger of tobacco and the warnings have been implemented effectively. Cigarette tax is 70% of factory price which is equal to less than 45% of retail price and much lower than the recommendation of WHO. However, Vietnam is one of the very few countries that require manufacturers and importers to make "compulsory contributions" at 1-2% of the factory price of cigarettes sold in Vietnam for the establishment of a Tobacco Control Fund (TCF). The TCF is being operated well. In 2015, 67 units of 63 provinces/cities, 22 ministries and political-social organizations and 6 hospitals received funding from TCF to implement a wide range of tobacco control activities. Cessation services have been starting with a a toll-free quit-line but need to be further strengthened. In conclusion, Vietnam has constantly put efforts into the tobacco control field with high commitment from the government, scientists and activists. Though several remarkable achievements have been gained, many challenges remain. To overcome those challenges, implementation strategies that take into account the contextual factors and social determinants of tobacco use in Vietnam are needed.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Albumin is the most abundant protein in blood, and is the most frequently identified protein in the protein corona of nanoparticles (NPs). Thus, albumin plays an important role in modulating NPs’ physicochemical properties and bioavailability. In this study, the effect of bovine serum albumin (BSA) on gelatin-oleic nanoparticles’ (GONs) physicochemical properties and cellular uptake were evaluated. Coumarin-6 was used as indicator to track the cellular uptake of GONs. The binding of BSA onto the GON surface increased the size, slightly reduced the negative net charge of the GON, and improved GON stability. The presence of BSA in cell culture media reduced the cellular uptake of BSA-uncoated GONs on human embryonic kidney cells 293 (HEK 293) and human adenocarcinoma alveolar basal epithelial cells (A549) in the media without FBS addition. Pre-coated BSA corona decreased cellular uptake of GONs in A549 cells in the media, with and without supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) but drastically increased cellular uptake on HEK 293 cells. BSA could be used to modulate protein corona as an endogenous ligand in NP design simply by mixing or incubating BSA with NPs before in vivo administration to inhibit or induce cellular uptake in specific cell types.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> BSA adsorption increase GON size, reduced GON zeta potential and stabilized GONs. </LI> <LI> A lower cellular uptake of intact GONs was observed at a higher BSA concentration. </LI> <LI> BSA pre-coated GON modified cellular uptake of GONs in complete media. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
