        Synthesis and Properties of Magnetic-Semiconductor Fe₃O₄/TiO₂ Heterostructure Nanocomposites for Applications in Wastewater Treatment

        In this research, a simple method has been presented to synthesize the magnetic - semiconductor Fe₃O₄/TiO₂ heterostructure nanocomposites via three steps: firstly, synthesis of Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles by co-precipitation method; thereafter, formation of Fe₃O₄/TiO₂ composites by sol-gel method; finally, annealing to form Fe₃O₄/TiO₂ anatase (denoted as Fe₃O₄/TiO₂-A) and Fe₃O₄/TiO₂ rutile (denoted as Fe₃O₄/TiO₂-R) heterostructure nanocomposites, respectively. The results of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy show that the Fe₃O₄/TiO₂-A and Fe₃O₄/TiO₂-R heterostructure nanocomposite samples contain both magnetite (Fe₃O₄) and semiconductor TiO₂ (anatase or rutile phase, respectively). The asprepared nanocomposite samples exhibit superparamagnetic properties at room temperature with high saturation magnetization (Ms) above 19.5 emu/g at the applied magnetic field of 11 kOe. Moreover, the Fe₃O₄/TiO₂-A and Fe₃O₄/TiO₂-R heterostructure nanocomposites with a low band gap energy of 2.89 eV and 2.81 eV, respectively, are promising to enhance the performance of photocatalytic activities in the visible light region for application in wastewater treatment.

        Gain and Frequency-Selectivity Enhancement of Dual-Polarized Filtering IBFD Antenna Using PRS

        A dual-polarized filtering Fabry–Perot antenna (FPA) with high selectivity and high isolation is proposed for in-band full-duplex (IBFD) applications. The proposed antenna utilizes a square patch as the feeding element, which is fed by a double differential-fed scheme for dual-polarized radiation with high isolation. The patch is loaded with a symmetrical cross-slot and four shorting pins for a broad passband filtering feature. To enhance broadside gain across a wide frequency range, the patch is incorporated with a partially reflecting surface (PRS), which is composed of two complementary cross-slot and patch arrays. Moreover, the frequency selectivity of PRS is exploited to improve the filtering characteristic. The double differential feeds are realized based on out-of-phase power dividers, which are combined with simple low-pass filters to further improve the out-of-band suppression. The final design was fabricated and measured. The measurement results show excellent results with a 10-dB return loss bandwidth of 21.5% (4.91–6.09 GHz), isolation of greater than 40 dB, peak gain of 13.7 dBi, out-of-band suppression level of better than 27 dB, and a cross-polarization level of less than -27 dB.

        On nonsmooth Optimality theorems for robust optimization problems

        In this paper, we prove a necessary optimality theorem for a nonsmooth optimization problem in the face of data uncertainty, which is called a robust optimization problem. Recently, the robust optimization problems have been intensively studied by many authors. Moreover, we give examples showing that the convexity of the uncertain sets and the concavity of the constraint functions are essential in the optimality theorem. We present an example illustrating that our main assumptions in the optimality theorem can be weakened.

        Microscopic origin of asymmetric magnetization reversal of Co/Pt multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

        We have comprehensively investigated asymmetric magnetization reversal behaviors of (x-Å Co/7.7 Å Pt)5 multilayers (x = 3.1 and 4.7) with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Our direct observation of magnetic domain structures by means of magneto-optical microscopy reveals that the asymmetry arises both from nucleation and wall-motion processes. An asymmetric nucleation behavior is observed, which could be originated from the preexisting non-reversed domains which might have a reproducible or random spatial distribution, controllable by tuning the field profile. An asymmetric wall-motion behavior stemming from asymmetric stripe domain evolution is also observed.

      • Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy in Stage I Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients with Peripheral Tumors in Vietnam

        Objective Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) was indicated for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients inoperable. The purpose of the study was evaluated the result of SBRT in stage I NSCLC patients (T1-2aN0M0) with peripheral tumors. Methods Prospective, follow-up 23 patients with stage T1-2aN0M0 NSCLC with peripheral tumor, who were received SBRT, followup and evaluated from January, 2015 to January, 2020. The primary endpoints were Objective Response Rate (ORR), Disease Control Rate (DCR), Progression Free Survival (PFS), the second endpoints were Overall Survival (OS) and Toxicity. Results The average age was 65.13 years-old, the mean of diameter was 3.31cm, the mean of SUVmax value was 7.77. The stage of the tumor is mostly T2a (60,9%). The median of follow-up was 26 months, ORR was 91.3%, DCR was 95.7%. The median PFS was 26 months, median OS was 58 months, the ratio of OS in 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, 5 years were 95.7%, 65.2%, 39.1%, 26.1% and 17.4%, respectively. The common of adverse events was pneumonitis due to SBRT at 9 patients, but mainly was grade 1, no patients have pneumonitis grade 4 and 5. No clinically significant changes in pulmonary function following SBRT for earlystage NSCLC. Conclusion SBRT was a good option for patients with stage I NSCLC, there was no significant difference in survival between patients who refused surgery and those who have medical inoperable and this is a safe treatment for patients.

        Memristor Binarized Neural Networks

        Binarized Neural Networks (BNNs) use only binary synapses of +1 and -1, not allowing any intermediate weights between -1 and +1. Though the recognition rate of BNNs is lower than the conventional Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), BNNs have attracted many interests nowadays, because BNNs do not need the complicated multiplication such as DNNs. Binary memristor crossbars can be very suitable to realize BNN hardware. This is because, in memristor BNNs, simple binary operation can be performed in bitwise manner for all the columns in memristor crossbars, simultaneously. In this paper, single-column and double-column memristor BNNs are presented, respectively. In addition, ReLU and sigmoid activation function circuits are also proposed with CMOS circuits. The designed Memristor-CMOS hybrid circuits of BNNs have been tested for MNIST vectors. The memristor BNNs could recognize almost 90% MNIST digits when the memristance variation is as large as 25%. For variation tolerance, the memristor BNNs are compared with the multi-valued memristor neural networks such as 4-bit, 6-bit, etc, in this paper. As a result, it has been confirmed the memristor BNNs become more variation-tolerant than the multi-valued memristor NNs when the variation becomes larger than 22%. Comparing the single-column and doublecolumn BNNs in this paper indicates that the singlecolumn BNN can save power consumption and array area almost by half than the double-column. This is because the single-column has just half memristors than the double-column. And, we measured the single-column and double-column BNNs using the fabricated memristor array. In this measurement, both the double-column and single-column BNNs were observed to work well.

      • Generic Properties for Semialgebraic Programs

        <P>In this paper we study genericity for the class of semialgebraic optimization problems with equality and inequality constraints, in which every problem of the class is obtained by linear perturbations of the objective function, while the 'core' objective function and the constraint functions are kept fixed. Assume that the linear independence constraint qualification is satisfied at every point in the constraint set. It is shown that almost all problems in the class are such that (i) the restriction of the objective function on the constraint set is coercive and regular at in finity; (ii) there is a unique optimal solution, lying on a unique active manifold, at which the strict complementarity and second order sufficiency conditions, the quadratic growth condition, and the Holder type global error bound hold, and (iii) all minimizing sequences converge. Furthermore, the active manifold is constant, and the optimal solution and the optimal value function depend analytically under local perturbations of the objective function. These results are combined with a standard result about the existence of sums of squares certificates to prove that we can build a sequence of semide finite programs whose solutions give rise to a sequence of points converging to the optimal solution of the original problem in finitely many steps. It is worth emphasizing that the results of this study hold globally and we do not require the problem to be convex or the constraint set to be compact.</P>

        Polymeric microsphere-facilitated site-specific delivery of quercetin prevents senescence of pancreatic islets <i>in vivo</i> and improves transplantation outcomes in mouse model of diabetes

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Attenuation of senescence progression may be attractive way to preserve the functionality of pancreatic islets (PI) after transplantation. In this study, we developed a model for <I>in vitro</I> induction of premature senescence in rat PI and showed the effectiveness of quercetin (QU) to prevent the senescence. To provide targeted-delivery of QU to the PI after transplantation, we prepared the hybrid clusters (HC) of islet single cells (ISC) and QU-loaded polymeric microspheres (QU; ∼7.55 ng HC<SUP>−1</SUP>). Long-term culture of the HC revealed reduced levels of reactive oxygen species and decreased expression of senescence-associated beta galactosidase, Rb, p53, p16, and p21 compared to that of the control islets. Transplantation of HC into subcutaneous space of the immune-deficient mice produced better glycemic control compared to the control islets or the ICC-transplanted mice. SA-β-Gal staining of the <I>in vivo</I> transplanted HC sample showed lower intensity compared to that of the control islets or the islet cell clusters. Thus, <I>in situ</I> delivery of therapeutic agent may be a promising approach to improve therapeutic outcomes in cell therapy.</P> <P><B>Statement of Significance</B></P> <P>In this study, we aimed to improve outcomes in islet transplantation using <I>in situ</I> delivery of quercetin to pancreatic islets, using polymeric microspheres. We prepared prolonged release-type microspheres and constructed hybrid clusters of pancreatic islets and the microspheres using hanging drop method. The presence of quercetin in the cellular microenvironment attenuated the progression of senescence in the pancreatic islets in a long-term <I>in vitro</I> culture. Moreover, transplantation of the hybrid clusters in the diabetic mice produced better glycemic control compared to that of the control islets. In addition, quercetin delayed the progression of senescence in the pancreatic islets after <I>in vivo</I> transplantation.
