The Simulation of Reactor Physics Test for the Research Reactor HANARO
Noh, Taewan Research Institute of Science and Technology HONGI 2005 Hongik Journal of Science and Technology Vol.9 No.-
The paper describes the development of a reactor power control algorithm using the program simulator for the simulation of dynamic behavior of a nuclear reactor. Before the full development of the algorithm for the commercial nuclear power plant, the Korean research reactor HANARO was chosen as a sample reactor for the simulation and for the reactor physics test. All the dynamic characteristics of HANARO were mathematically modeled into a computer program and the parameters of the plant components and the algorithm of reactor control system are adjusted to improve the transient performances as well as to satisfy the constraints imposed on the plant. Several physics parameters such as control rod worth, isothermal temperature defect, and power defec are correlated. These parameters were measured in serial order at the same core condition. The transient response of the plant shows satisfactory behavior and are well corresponding to the result of reactor physics test.
Integrated system of face recognition and sound localization for a smart door phone
Taewan Kim,Hyungsoo Park,Sang Hoon Hong,Yunmo Chung IEEE 2013 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CONSUMER ELECTRONICS - Vol.59 No.3
<P>This paper proposes a smart system using both face recognition and sound localization techniques to identify foreign faces through a door phone in a more efficient and accurate way. In particular, a visitor's voice is used to localize the proper location of the speaker. The location information is then used to adjust the door phone camera position to frame the face in its field of view. In order to accurately locate the facial position of the visitor, 4 microphones are positioned in a cross configuration. Furthermore, face detection and face recognition algorithms as well as a wireless interface are used to recognize the visitor and send the information to the home owner's phone. The entire control system is built using an FPGA chip and tested for actual use in door phone environments1.</P>
The UNCLOS and Territorial Conflicts in Northeast Asia
TaeWan Kim 한국해양비즈니스학회 2003 해양비즈니스 Vol.- No.2
According to the neoliberal conventional wisdom, international regimes promote cooperation among nations, yet the UNCLOS regime seems unlikely to promote cooperation among China, Japan, and Korea. Why does the conventional wisdom not work in Northeast Asia? As opposed to traditional IR perspectives, like neoliberalism and neorealism. I argue a historical approach is instrumental to solving this puzzle. Because of the internal limit and the goal of the UNCLOS itself, the regime is unlikely to help cooperation among states in the region. In addition, exclusive nationalism, inveterate distrust, and territorial disputes among states in the region are significant obstacles in cooperation under the UNCLOS regime. These particular obstacles are the result of historical circumstances.
Menin Enhances Androgen Receptor-Independent Proliferation and Migration of Prostate Cancer Cells

The androgen receptor (AR) is an important therapeutic target for treating prostate cancer (PCa). Moreover, there is an increasing need for understanding the AR-independent progression of tumor cells such as neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). Menin, which is encoded by multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1), serves as a direct link between AR and the mixed-lineage leukemia (MLL) complex in PCa development by activating AR target genes through histone H3 lysine 4 methylation. Although menin is a critical component of AR signaling, its tumorigenic role in AR-independent PCa cells remains unknown. Here, we compared the role of menin in AR-positive and AR-negative PCa cells via RNAi-mediated or pharmacological inhibition of menin. We demonstrated that menin was involved in tumor cell growth and metastasis in PCa cells with low or deficient levels of AR. The inhibition of menin significantly diminished the growth of PCa cells and induced apoptosis, regardless of the presence of AR. Additionally, transcriptome analysis showed that the expression of many metastasis-associated genes was perturbed by menin inhibition in AR-negative DU145 cells. Furthermore, wound-healing assay results showed that menin promoted cell migration in AR-independent cellular contexts. Overall, these findings suggest a critical function of menin in tumorigenesis and provide a rationale for drug development against menin toward targeting high-risk metastatic PCa, especially those independent of AR.

Path tracking control for autonomous vehicle using model predictive control (MPC) algorithm maintains maneuverability by calculating a sequence of control input which minimizes a tracking error. The weakness of this method is that the performance of MPC may decrease significantly when the priori prediction model is not accurate. Therefore, it is important to keep the vehicle stable when MPC having model error. This paper uses an on-line model-based reinforcement learning (RL) to decrease the path error by learning unknown parameters and updating a prediction model. To validate, two kinds of path tracking simulation are conducted:one is the comparison the performance between on-line model-based RL and MPC with model error. The other one is about the test when the model used in MPC and the true dynamics, which actually received input, have different tire model. The model-based RL method succeeds to learn unknown tire parameters and maintains their maneuverability in both simulations.
