      • Application of Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for Rapid Sorting of Stainless Steel Scraps for Recycling

        The growth of worldwide stainless steel consumption over the past years has been steady. Therefore, recycling of stainless steels has been encouraged since stainless steel contains valuable raw materials like Cr, Ni, Mn and Mo and the production of stainless steel is costly. However, stainless steel has various types and grades depending on elemental compositions. For the recycling of stainless steel scraps, sorting the scraps by stainless steel type and grade is vital. Since stainless steel scraps have not much difference in color and composition ratio, they can be accurately sorted only by measuring their compositions. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is an appropriate method for this purpose and has been considered as a promising technique for the rapid determination of compositions of scrap metals based on a chemical analysis. LIBS has various advantages such as fast multi-elemental and in-air analysis that enables a real time analysis in industrial environments. For the application of LIBS to an industrial system, however, it is necessary to reduce the effects of plasma fluctuation during LIBS measurement since LIBS signals are influenced by plasma property changes. In this work, we report the results of LIBS elemental analysis of similar stainless steel certified reference metals in variable focusing conditions which induced different evolution of plasma. Signal processing algorithm considering intensity ratio will be discussed to improve classification accuracy for an industrial recycling by reducing the effects of focusing condition changes.

        Phosphorylation by NLK inhibits YAP ‐14‐3‐3‐interactions and induces its nuclear localization

        <P>Hippo signaling controls organ size by regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis. Yes-associated protein (YAP) is a key downstream effector of Hippo signaling, and LATS-mediated phosphorylation of YAP at Ser127 inhibits its nuclear localization and transcriptional activity. Here, we report that Nemo-like kinase (NLK) phosphory-lates YAP at Ser128 both in vitro and in vivo, which blocks interaction with 14-3-3 and enhances its nuclear localization. Depletion of NLK increases YAP phosphorylation at Ser127 and reduces YAP-mediated reporter activity. These results suggest that YAP phosphorylation at Ser128 and at Ser127 may be mutually exclusive. We also find that with the increase in cell density, nuclear localization and the level of NLK are reduced, resulting in reduction in YAP phosphorylation at Ser128. Furthermore, knockdown of Nemo (the Drosophila NLK) in fruit fly wing imaginal discs results in reduced expression of the Yorkie (the Drosophila YAP) target genes expanded and DIAP1, while Nemo overexpression reciprocally increased the expression. Overall, our data suggest that NLK/Nemo acts as an endogenous regulator of Hippo signaling by controlling nuclear localization and activity of YAP/Yorkie.</P>

        초분절 자질의 관점에서 살펴본 『동국정운(東國正韻)』 한자음의 ‘청·탁’에 대한 고찰

        청·탁은 본래 음악 용어로 경중(輕重)·고하(高下)·심천(深淺)·음양(陰陽)으로 묘사되었고, 근대 이전까지 음악과 성운학에서 청·탁의 용어 사용은 큰 차이가 없었다. 칼그렌(Klas Bernhard Johannes Karlgren, 1889~1978)의 연구 이후 청·탁은 무성음과 유성음의 분절 자질로 분석되는데, 이 경우 음소문자인 훈민정음의 음운 자질이 설명되기 어렵다. 세종은 음악과 성운학의 전문가로 훈민정음을 창제했을 때, 청·탁을 분절 자질이 아닌 전통의 초분절 자질로 인식했을 것이라 생각된다. 이에 대한 근거로 『동국정운(東國正韻)』 한자음의 청·탁이 『광운(廣韻)』 41성류의 반절상자에 대응하고, 반절상자의 청·탁은 광동어의 초분절 자질인 음조와 양조에 대응하는 것을 들 수 있다. 청·탁을 음조와 양조의 관점에서 살필 경우, 훈민정음의 청·탁 표기가 체계적으로 설명이 된다. 본고에서는 청·탁을 공명강의 무게중심에 따라 달라지는 음색의 대비라는 관점에서 초분절 자질을 설명했다. 음색은 동양음악에서 가장 중요한 요소로 소리의 무게·높이·깊이가 종합적으로 갖추어질 때 하나의 음색이 형성된다. The qīngyīn (淸/clear) and zhuóyīn (濁/unclear) sounds, originally derived from musical terminology, were used from a hyper segmental perspective where qīngyīn denoted high notes, and zhuóyīn denoted low notes within the Chinese phonological field. There was barely any difference between Chinese phonological terms and musical terms before the modern era. However, after the research carried out by Klas Bernhard Johannes Karlgren (1889-1978), the qīngyīn and zhuóyīn sounds were analyzed as segmental phonemes chosen as a result of confrontations between voiced and unvoiced sounds. If we were to follow this reasoning, it would be very difficult to explain the phoneme quality of the Hunminjeongeum, which is a phonemic writing system. King Sejong was an expert in music and Chinese phonology and when he created the Hunminjeongeum, he must have perceived the qīngyīn and zhuóyīn sounds as the traditional hyper segmental phonemes instead of segmental phonemes. To prove this, the qīngyīn and zhuóyīn sounds of the Chinese character sounds in the Donggukjungwoon can be observed as corresponding with the 41 initial consonants of the first character in a fǎnqiè (反切) in the Guǎngyùn(廣韻). It is also possible to cite the fact that the qīngyīn and zhuóyīn sounds of the first character in a fǎnqiè corresponds with the yīndiào (陰調/high tones) and yángdiào (陽調/low tones), which are the hyper segmental phonemes of Cantonese.

        Echelon Analysis

        인공위성을 이용한 원격탐사가 일반화되어 있는 선진국의 경우 인공위성의 관측자료를 이용한 여러 가지 분야의 연구가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 국제적 경향은 결과적으로 원격탐사정보와 지리정보시스템 기술의 급격한 발전을 가져오게 되는 계기가 되었다. 이로 인해 환경조사 및 자원탐사, 홍수, 가뭄, 쓰레기 처리, 농업 식량예측, 사막화 해양오염 등 여러 가지 응용 분야에 유용하게 사용되고 있다. echelon 해석법(Myers et al., 1997, 栗原考次, 2001, Myers and Patil, 2002)은 이러한 원격탐사에 의해 얻은 각종 공간 데이터 해석을 위해 개발된 것으로, 공간데이터의 위상적 구조를 계통적이고 객관적으로 발견하기 위한 해석법이다. 본 연구에서는 한국의 시·도별 인구 데이터에 본 해석법을 적용해 본다. Echelon analysis(Myers et al., 1997) divides a spatial position to 1 variable data on the map divided on the rectangle based on the surface. And this finds the phase-structure of spatial data systematically and objectively. This analyzing method is applicable to various kinds of local data and remote sensing data constructed by 1 variable. In this study, we apply this method to the population data of each Korean cities and provinces.

        대학신입생의 중도탈락 예측 연구 : 부산 B대학교 사례

        본 연구는 부산 B대학교의 2019년 신입생 대학적응력 검사 결과와 학업성취도 자료를 토대로 대학신입생의 중도탈락률을 분석한 것으로 연구결과는 아래와 같다. 첫째, 유의적인 대학적응력변수는 학문적 통합성, 사회적 통합성, 대학교육 만족도로 나타났다. 중도탈락률은 학문적 통합성이 높을수록 높아지고, 사회적 통합성과 대학교육 만족도가 높을수록 낮아지는 것으로 나타난다. 그러나 이 모형을 활용한 예측결과는 AUC 기준 0.5887로서 획기적으로 높은 수준을 보여주지는 아니하였다. 둘째, 성적과 성별이라는 변수 역시 유의적인 중도탈락 예측변수로 나타났다. 이들 변수들은 대학적응력 변수와 함께 중도탈락 예측에 사용가능한 것으로 나타났다. 이 변수들의 경우 여학생일수록 중도탈락률이 높으며, 교과 성적이 낮을수록 중도탈락률이 높게 나타났다. 셋째. 중도탈락 경향성 변수도 유의적인 중도탈락 변수로 나타났으며, 성적, 성별과 함께 중도탈락을 유의미하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 적응력 검사 결과 외에 성적변수 등을 도입함으로써 중도탈락자의 예측이 가능함을 의미한다. 이상과 같은 본 연구의 결과는 대학적응력변수, 남녀 성별, 학과성적 등이 중도탈락과 밀접한 연관이 있으며, 이를 기반으로 학생들의 중도탈락을 전망하고 관리할 수 있음을 보여준다. This study analyzed the dropout rate of college freshmen based on the 2019 college adaptation test results of Busan B University and academic achievement data, and the results of the study are as follows. First, significant university adaptability variables were academic integration, social integration, and university education satisfaction. The dropout rate appears to increase as academic integration increases, and decreases as social integration and university education satisfaction increase. Second, the variables of grade and gender were also found to be significant dropout predictors. These variables were found to be available for dropout prediction along with university adaptability variables. In the case of these variables, the dropout rate was higher for female students, and the lower the curriculum score, the higher the dropout rate. Third, the dropout tendency variable was also found to be a significant dropout variable, and it was found to significantly predict dropout along with grade and gender. The results of this study as described above show that college adaptation variables, gender, and academic performance are closely related to dropouts, and based on this, students can predict and manage dropouts.

        훈민정음 ‘ㅇ’의 초성·종성에 관한 연구

        The phonetic value of ‘ㅇ’ is a concept related to the resonance created within the vocal cords or the gravitational center of the resonance and therefore, it is hard to define it just with the international phonetic alphabet. Just like as it is mentioned in the preface of the books 『Hong-mu-jeongun- yeok-hun(洪武正韻譯訓)』 and 『Dong-guk-jeong-un(東國正韻)』, King Sejong recognized phonemes not just as a flat dot but as a three dimensional value created by ‘nal’ (height) and ‘ssi’ (width). This is a completely different pepspective from what the current phonetic literature is describing. The Hunminjeongeum actually records sounds as ‘three-dimensional values’ which controls the ‘nal’ and ‘ssi’ and not just as a superficial two-dimensional value units. This is quite appropriate in explaining the gravitational shift of sounds whereby it is controlled in a unique three dimensional way and not in the two dimensional way of the international phonetic alphabet targeted for voices and phonemes considered in bulks. The ‘ㅇ’ of the Hunminjeongeum is not considered to be in the category of phonemes within the Korean language from a voice concept perspective. It would be hard to recognize sounds which are not contained within the phoneme category but during the time of the creation of the Hunminjeongeum, King Sejong actually inserted this within the category of the phonemes and created pronunciation sound indicators for Chinese characters (hanja) within the saseongchileum (四聲七音: Four tones and seven sounds) system.

        BaLa2WO7:Eu3+ as a Novel Red-emitting Phosphor for UV LEDs

        The luminescence properties of a novel red-emitting phosphor, Eu3+-activated BaLa2WO7, were investigated for application in lighting phosphors. The strong red emission of this compound is centered at 618 nm under excitation of both the charge transfer band and the inner shell f-f transitions of Eu3+ activators. In comparison with the charge-transfer transition of other Eu3+-activated oxides, the Eu3+ ion in BaLa2WO7 has the same coordination number as that of perovskite-structured oxides, such as BaLaLiWO6:Eu3+. Therefore, the characteristic red emission under long-wavelength UV light and the chemical stabilities of rare-earth-activated oxotungstates might be sufficient for their use as luminescent materials for new red phosphors in energy-saving lighting elements such as LEDs.
