The Effects of Acupotomy Therapy on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: A Report of 4 Cases

        Lee, Seongjin,Cha, Eunhye,Yang, Muhak,Lee, Jongdeok,Lee, Jiyoung,Lee, Sojin,Kim, Deokho,Kim, Sungchul Korean AcupunctureMoxibustion Medicine Society 2018 Korean Journal of Acupuncture Vol.35 No.1

The aim of this report was to show the effects of acupotomy in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Four patients were treated with acupotomy twice. Visual analogue scale (VAS), Tinel's sign, Phalen's test, Boston carpal tunnel syndrome questionnaire (BCTQ), muscular strength test, and a cross-sectional area of median nerve was measured using ultrasound before and after treatment. In all 4 cases, the VAS score, BCTQ score and cross-sectional area of median nerve, all decreased and muscular strength test score increased. Tinel's sign and the Phalen's test changed from a positive to a negative in most cases. This report shows that acupotomy is an effective treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome. Further larger are needed to fully evaluate the beneficial effects of this treatment.

Analysis of Prey of Mandarin Fish and Large Mouth Bass and Distribution of Fish Population in Lake Paro, Korea

        Jaeyong Lee,Kwang yeol Lee,Sungchul Park,Jaeseok Choi,Hong gi Jang,Joon Chul Kim 한국환경생태학회 2015 한국환경생태학회지 Vol.29 No.2

We quantified temporal and spatial changes in the habitat for fish populations, the distribution of mandarin fish(Siniperca scherzeri) and an introduced species, largemouth bass(Micropterus salmoides) in Lake Paro and inflowing streams. The number of fish species identified in Lake Paro and the tributary streams included 10 families, 24 species and 10 families 30 species, respectively. The dominant fish species in Lake Paro were Zacco platypus, Hemibarbus labeo, Squalidus gracilis majimae, S. scherzeri and Tridentiger brevispinis, Z. platypus, Z. koreanus, and S. gracilis majimae in the inflowing streams. Although the habitat segregation for S. scherzeri and M. salmoides occurs, these two species showed the use of the fishes of the family Gobiidae as an important prey item based on IRI analysis. S. scherzeri and M. salmoides preyed mainly on T. brevispinis(67.4 %) and R. brunneus(84.0 %), respectively. The species preyed on by S. scherzeri and M. salmoides were benthic fishes that inhabit shallow water depths around the lake and have little swimming ability.

Efficient and Low-Cost Metal Revision Techniques for Post Silicon Repair

Lee, Sungchul,Shin, Hyunchul The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2014 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.14 No.3

New effective techniques to repair "small" design errors in integrated circuits are presented. As semiconductor chip complexity increases and the design period becomes tight, errors frequently remain in a fabricated chip making revisions required. Full mask revision significantly increases the cost and time-to-market. However, since many "small" errors can be repaired by modifying several connections among the circuit blocks and spare cells, errors can frequently be repaired by revising metal layers. Metal only revision takes significantly less time and involves less cost when compared to full mask revision, since mask revision costs multi-million dollars while metal revision costs tens of thousand dollars. In our research, new techniques are developed to further reduce the number of metal layers to be revised. Specifically, we partition the circuit blocks with higher error probabilities and extend the terminals of the signals crossing the partition boundaries to the preselected metal repair layers. Our partitioning and pin extension to repair layers can significantly improve the repairability by revising only the metal repair layers. Since pin extension may increase delay slightly, this method can be used for non-timing-critical parts of circuits. Experimental results by using academia and industrial circuits show that the revision of the two metal layers can repair many "small" errors at low-cost and with short revision time. On the average, when 11.64% of the spare cell area and 24.72% of the extended pins are added to the original circuits, 83.74% of the single errors (and 72.22% of the double errors) can be corrected by using two metal revision. We also suggest methods to use our repair techniques with normal commercial vender tools.

Genetic specificity study using next-generation sequencing (NGS) of peritoneal metastatic colorectal cancer compared to primary colorectal cancer

        Lee Sungchul,Shin Wonseok,Park Dong-Guk,Namgung Hwan 한국유전학회 2024 Genes & Genomics Vol.46 No.3

Background In patients with colorectal cancer, peritoneal metastases are the second most frequent metastatic lesion after liver metastases. Peritoneal metastases have a very poor prognosis, with a median survival time of 5–7 months. Currently, there is a lack of research on the genetic differences between primary colorectal cancer and peritoneal metastases. Therefore, we aimed to identify their genetic characteristics through a cancer panel test using next-generation sequencing. Objective We aim to investigate the specificity of genetic variants in primary colorectal cancer and peritoneal metastases. Methods We recruited patients with stage I, II, and III primary colorectal cancer and peritoneal metastases for genetic analysis using NGS. Samples were collected from patients who underwent surgery at Dankook University Hospital and consented to genetic testing. NGS was performed using a cancer panel. Results Among 36 patients with primary cancer, TP53 gene mutation was identified the most in 25 patients (69%), followed by APC gene mutation in 19 patients (53%), and KRAS gene mutation in 17 patients (47%). In the peritoneal metastasis patient group, unlike the primary cancer patient group, KRAS gene mutations were the most common 6 patients (55%), followed by TP53 gene mutations in 4 patients (36%) and PIK3CA gene mutations in 2 patients (18%). Conclusion The small number of surgical cases of peritoneal metastases was a limitation of our sample size. Nevertheless, we identified differences in the alterations of specific genes between primary and peritoneal metastases. Acquiring additional cases and collecting more data will provide deeper insights into these cancers.
