The acaricidal activity of the mixed plant extracts of Gleditsia japonica var. koraien, Camellia sinensis, Cinnamomum cassia, and Lantana camara, toward the tea red spider mite, Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida was evaluated in laboratory bioassays. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the adult females of T. kanzawai and yielded 87.0 and 85.6% adulticidal activity at 7 days after treatment, respectively. Mixture 3 revealed 78.7% adulticidal activity. However, mixtures 4 and 5 had lower adulticidal activity than the other treatments. The adult females of T. kanzawai treated with mixtures 1 and 3 produced only 22.5-22.8% as many eggs as did the control females. The residue of the plant extracts tested had low adulticidal activity (16.3-27.2%). All of the plant extracts tested were ineffective against the eggs of T. kanzawai. Treatments with mixtures 1 and 3 were effective against the nymphs of T. kanzawai and led to emergence rates of 20.7 and 25.3%, respectively. These results suggest that mixtures 1 and 3 might be used for the control of T. kanzawai.

<B>Purpose: </B>PET-CT is often used to differentiate benign or malignant thyroid incidentalomas. In this retrospective study, we evaluated whether the <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG uptake pattern and PET-CT findings improved accuracy over the standardized uptake value (SUV). <B>Methods:</B> <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG PET-CT was performed on 2,178 subjects from August, 2004, to October, 2007, in Sung-ae Hospital. PET-CT was performed on 806 patients (37%) with suspected or known nonthyroidal cancer and 1,372 healthy subjects (63%) without a previous history of cancer. We investigated the clinical characteristics of patients, history, standardized uptake value (SUV), ultrasonography, and hormone levels in blood. Thyroidal cancer was confirmed by ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration and pathology after thyroid operation. <B>Results:</B> The prevalence of focal thyroid lesions on PET-CT was 8.8% (191/2178). Thyroid cancer confirmation was 7.9% (15/191). The maximum SUV of malignant thyroid lesions were significantly higher than that of benign lesions (7.00±3.08 vs. 4.49±1.84, P<0.001). <B>Conclusion:</B> PET-CT image interpretation that includes 18F-FDG uptake and SUV is better than PET-CT alone for differentiating benign and malignant lesions. 본 연구의 목적은 김만덕이 성공한 CEO로서 보여준 기업가정신을 체계적으로 살펴보고, 그녀가 지녔던 기업가정신이 우리에게 주는 시사점을 도출하는데 있다. 논문은 크게 두 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 첫 번째는 김만덕의 생애와 김만덕이 CEO로 역할을 수행했던 당시의 시대적 배경을 살펴보았다. 두 번째는 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 분석하여 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 기업가정신의 일반적인 내용을 살펴본 후, 조선시대 최초 여성 CEO 김만덕의 기업가정신을 분석하여 시사점을 찾고자 하였다. 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 파악하기 위하여 개인 차원에서 기업가정신을 연구한 Chrisman et al.(1998)이 제시한 특성 중에서 창업 경험을 제외하고 인성적 특성, 가치 및 신념, 능력, 행동적 특성 등 4가지 관점에서 김만덕이 보여준 기업가정신을 분석하였다. 김만덕에 관한 대부분의 기록과 작품들은 김만덕의 삶과 행적을 긍정적으로 묘사하고 있다. 따라서 김만덕의 삶을 객관적으로 조명하는 가운데 김만덕이 보여준 기업가로서 의 정신적 가치를 발굴하고 현대적 관점에서 재평가하는 작업은 필요하다. 다만 제한된 지면의 사료나 자료에 의존하여 이루어진 평가이기 때문에 주의가 필요하다고 생각된다. The purpose of this paper was to identify the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok. This paper was divided into two parts : first is the Kim Man Deok s life stages and characteristic of the age, second is the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok. Kim Man Deok‘s life was divided into three time periods : fight against fate, as a CEO, donating her possession to society. And the entrepreneurship of Kim Man Deok were examined : personality and characteristics, values and beliefs, skills, behaviors and decisions. Kim Man Deok(1739-1812), who was living in Jeju Island. She became one of the richest persons living on Jeju Island after overcoming various difficulties in the previous 200 years. Kim Man deok was the first female CEO in Korean history. Kim Man Deok was a shrewd entrepreneur, who knew how to foresee future trends and stood apart from other great women of the Joseon era. Kim Man Deok s life inspired Jeju residents and remains one of the most respected figures.

The study was carried out to determine the changes of growth characteristics, anthocyanidin, and brown rice yield grown at coast and inland areas apart from the east coastline of Gyeongsangbuk-do province. Number of spikelets per panicle was much more increased in inland area. Regional difference in number of spikelets per panicle was observed in Jeongjinju cultivar. Among these red rice cultivars, the highest brown rice yield was Jeongjinju rice cultivar having 702 ㎏ in inland area and 692 ㎏ in coast area, respectively. Anthocyanidin content ranged 524 to 610 ㎍/g dry weight basis. Cyanidin content was 11.4 to 14.0 times higher than that of delphinidin under coast and inland area. Anthocyanidin content was higher in rice cultivar grown at coast area. Highest head brown rice rate was only observed in Geonganghongmi to 95.2 at coast area and 95.4 inland area. In considering brown rice yield and pigment content, Hongjinju rice cultivar was recommended in optimal pigment rice cultivar in eastern coast of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
Prevalence and Microbial Flora of Chicken Slaughtering and Processing Procedure

This study has been performed to measure the prevalence and microbial flora on chicken slaughtering as well as the processing process from the months of October to November. Whole-chicken rinsing technique was used in order to analyze the incidence of microorganisms on chicken carcass at the stage before chilling (after evisceration), after chilling and after cutting. The swab technique was used on processing the processed samples, such as working plates and cutting knives. Brine and cooling water from four cooling tubs were taken from each processing processes and were used as samples. Furthermore, the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) for whole cell fingerprinting in combination with a dedicated bioinformatic software tool was used to identify the isolated microorganisms. Of the tested samples and processes, brine (4.50±0.64 Log CFU/mL) and chicken carcass before chilling (4.15±0.46 Log CFU/mL) showed the highest population of microorganisms; the predominant microbial flora of them were Moellerella wisconsensis (54.84%), a member of the Enterobacteriaceae family, and Escherichia coli (60.36%), respectively. However, the predominant microbial flora of cut carcass was changed to Staphylococcus aureus (27.32%), which is a kind of pathogenic microorganism that can cause a food-borne illness. Therefore, the slaughtering and processing procedure of chicken are needed to be controlled more hygienically.

This study introduced wastewater treatment method by High Gradient Magnetic Separation (HGMS). HGMS treatment was high efficient method for various industrial wastewaters. The system is currently research state, but we have surveyed commercialize the technology for industry. In rolling plate process, coolant wastewater was recycled by sedimentation and sand filter system. It needs several large reservoirs and long time to remove suspended solid (SS) like metal fines and iron oxide in hot rolling plate making process. If removing rate of suspended solid in rolling coolant wastewater is improved by using HGMS system, the productivity of working process can be increased and the area of reservoir can be reduced. We manufactured high temperature superconducting HGMS system that had a purpose to treatment of coolant wastewater in rolling plate process. We fabricated the prototypes of magnetic matrix filter consisting of stainless steel 430 mesh, which is a core component in the magnetic separation system, In our basic preliminary experiment using HGMS system, it has been clear that the fine paramagnetic particles in the coolant wastewater obtained from rolling plate process of POSCO can be separated with high efficiency.

This study was carried out to determine the pretreatment effect of proton beam irradiation on germination and pasting properties of starches in two rices. Mature and healthy seeds irradiated with 10 doses (0, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800 Gy) for determination of $LD_{50}$ and characteristics of germination were recorded at 14 days after irradiation. The rice seeds irradiated with five doses (0, 50, 100, 200, and 300 Gy) were used to evaluate the irradiation effects of pasting properties of starches. It showed that a lower survival rate in germinated rice seeds was observed above 300 Gy showing 31 and 35% in Ilpum and Hanmaum, respectively. The higher plant height and root length were also recorded in 50 and 100 Gy. Amylose content in proton beam irradiated with 50, 100, 200, and 300 Gy was significantly decreased in two rice cultivars. Peak viscosity, hot peak viscosity, cooling peak viscosity, and setback viscosity decreased with increasing proton beam dose levels. The degree of crystallinity was significantly increased with increasing proton beam dose levels. Consequently, it might be deduced that proton beam irradiation causes changes of starch properties affecting crystalline regions of starch granules, especially at high dosage irradiation.
