The importance of 'Language' and 'Culture' education has increased in the recent years as the international society has expanded it's territories. Because the world has become an economic war zone, it is necessary to learn about different people in order to stay on top of other competing countries. Language education has been a top priority for many years, but we have found very little success in teaching our people foreign languages because we have not been able to teach the languages with proper methods and knowledge. In my study I have researched the origin of language, the history of culture, and the cross-relations between language and culture. By understanding the base of cross-culture, language & culture issues, I believe that we can find a path to successful language-culture education.

Backgrounds/Aims: HBsAg/IgG immune complexes (ICs) have been found in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. To understand the immunologic process in patients with acute viral hepatitis (AVH) B, HRsAg/IgG ICs were quantified. Methods: We serially quantified HBsAg/IgG ICs in patients with AVH B by ELISA method (Ag-specific), Results: The ICs were detected in 6 out of 9 cases of AVH B with wide quantitative range from 24 ng/mL to 2,251 ng/mL. In the two cases of high ICs, the ICs were measured as 2,251 ng/mL in the 1st week and 540 ng/mL in the 3rd week. In 4 cases, ICs were detected in relatively low titers from 24 to 186 ng/mL. In all the 6 cases of HBsAg/IgG ICs positive, anti-HBs was all negative, and HBcAb was all positive. In 5 out of the 6 cases, HBsAg was positive. The appearance of ICs was not correlated with the level of serum SGPT or the duration of liver function recovery. Conclusions: HBsAg or anti-HBs were present as HBsAg/ IgG ICs during acute phase of AVH B, in which HBsAg or anti-HBs were not detected by conventional radioimmunoassay (RIA). The HBsAg/IgG ICs could be the viral marker complementing eonventional RIA as qualitative method. The quantitive measurement of HBsAg/IgG ICs might provide better understanding of the immunologic process of AVH B.

An investigation was conducted to examine the chemopreventive effects of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Mayer) extract (KGE) on the development of colonic aberrant crypt foci (ACF) induced by 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH). Five-week-old male F344 rats were fed with a diet containing 0.5% or 1% of KGE for 8 weeks. During the initial 2 weeks, the rats were subcutaneously injected with DMH (30 ㎎/㎏) or saline 4 times to induce colonic ACF. The ACF formed on the colonic mucosa were examined after staining with methylene blue. Four-times treatment with DMH induced mean 265.8 ± 48.3 ACF/colon composed of total 608.8 ± 110.9 aberrant crypts (AC)/colon. The numbers of ACF and AC induced by DMH were significantly decreased to 190.3±49.9 and 467.6±127.3, respectively, by treatment with 0.5% KGE, and further reduced to 168.1 and 389.8±125.1 by 1% KGE. Especially, the number of large ACF (≥4 AC/ACF), that had been suggested to possess a greater tumorigenic potential than small ACF (≤3 AC/ACF), was greatly suppressed from 39.9 ± 10.6 ACF/colon in control to 26.2± 11.1 ACF/colon in 1% KGE-treated group. These results suggest that KGE exert a chemopreventive effect on the DMH-induced colon cancer by inhibiting the development of ACF and AC in the rats.
