In Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, human understanding is emphasized as one of three necessary characteristics that a physician must have. Inflammation, which is caused by inflammatory inducers (inf-ids), is a fundamental feature of disease at the cellular and molecular levels. Inflammation protects the body, but excessive or prolonged inflammation can be damaging and can cause disease. Humans are repeatedly exposed to external and internal environmental factors that generate inf-ids throughout their lives. External environmental factors include microbial and non-microbial inf-ids, as well as stressors that inevitably arise during social interactions. Internal environmental factors include the adaptive physiological response that is present from birth. Inf-ids may also be produced by the four-step habit loop, which consists of a cue (e.g., stressor), emotions, routine act (adaptive response), and a reward. Immune cells in the circulatory system and in tissues may have positive and negative effects in inflammatory responses. However, low-grade inflammation may be difficult to detect. We propose a model of disease development that integrates external and internal environmental factors from the perspective of human understanding.

Human understanding is one of the three virtues that are expected of physicians in Harrison’s principles of internal medicine, and it was emphasized that a Shakespearean breadth is needed to be the true physician. Recently, there has been an increase in the need for human understanding, such as a continuous increase in GB stones, an association between the patient's life events and pancreaticobiliary diseases, an increase in autoimmune disease, and a high recurrence rate after treatment. Therefore, we attempted a holistic and fundamental approach for figuring out the pathogenesis of pancreaticobiliary diseases including human habit loop and adaptive response and suggests the model for the development of pancreaticobiliary disease considering human understanding.

본 연구는 전통적인 객관식 평가에 대한 새로운 대안으로서 등장하고 있는 수행평가의 이론적 배경에 대한 심층적 이해를 추구하고, 사회과에서의 적용 방안을 탐색하는데 일차적인 목적을 두고 있다. 수행평가는 지금까지 이루어진 사회과 평가의 문제점을 극복할 수 있는 평가방법으로서, 인지심리학과 다중지능이론에 그 이론적 근거를 두고 있다. 사회과 수행평가에 있어서는 내용타당도를 높이기 위해서 사회과의 본질이나 목적에 부합한 평가활동이 필요하다. 특히, 의사결정이나 쟁점을 다루는 능력을 중심으로 한 수행평가는 필수적으로 요구되며, 이러한 평가내용에 적절한 수행평가방법의 유형과 그 실례를 제시하였다. 사회과 수행평가가 학교현장에 적용되기 위해서는 평가자간 신뢰도를 확보하기 위한 한 가지 방안으로서 명확한 평가기준의 설정과 평가 리터러시가 매우 중요하며, 다양한 평가문항의 개발 및 적용을 통한 사회과 교수-학습 개선이라는 수행평가의 본질이 실현되기를 촉구하고 있다. The primary purpose of this study is to seek profound understanding about theoretical backgrounds of performance assessment and identify ways to apply this assessment in social studies. As effective assessment method for coping with the major problems of existing social studies assessments, performance assessment is based on cognitive psychology and multiple intelligence theory. For raising content validity, it is needed assessment activities which are fitting for the nature or purpose of social studies. Especially, performance assessment focused on 'decision-making or ability to deal with issue' is necessarily required and this study provided the types and exemplars of performance assessment method appropriate to these assessment content. In order to apply performance assesment of social studies in school field, as a way to assure inter-rater reliability, it is very important to bulid clear scoring rubrics and foster assessment literacy. Finally, this study hopes to realize the nature of performance assessment, the improvement of teaching-learning in social studies education, through the development and application of a variety of assessment items.
