Parameter Estimation for Traffic Noise Models Using a Harmony Search Algorithm

<P>A technique has been developed for predicting road traffic noise for environmental assessment, taking into account traffic volume as well as road surface conditions. The ASJ model (ASJ Prediction Model for Road Traffic Noise, 1999), which is based on the sound power level of the noise emitted by the interaction between the road surface and tires, employs regression models for two road surface types: dense-graded asphalt (DGA) and permeable asphalt (PA). However, these models are not applicable to other types of road surfaces. Accordingly, this paper introduces a parameter estimation procedure for ASJ-based noise prediction models, utilizing a harmony search (HS) algorithm. Traffic noise measurement data for four different vehicle types were used in the algorithm to determine the regression parameters for several road surface types. The parameters of the traffic noise prediction models were evaluated using another measurement set, and good agreement was observed between the predicted and measured sound power levels.</P>
Micro PAVER의 국내 적용을 위한 적정화에 대한 연구

현재 공항포장은 기존 포장관련정보의 관리에 대한 어려움이 있고, 장기공용으로 인해 유지보수비용이 증가하고 있어 예산의 효율적 활용과 공항포장의 체계적 유지관리가 필요하다. 이를 위해서 포장관리시스템을 도입할 필요성이 있다. 본 연구에서는 외국의 여러 포장관리시스템 중 세계적으로 널리 활용되고 있는 Micro PAVER를 국내에 도입하기 위한 방안을 연구하였다. 외국의 시스템을 국내에 적용하기 위해서는 환경차이, 포장관리수준 차이 등으로 인해 발생하는 오류를 최소화하기 위해 국내에 맞도록 적정화(customization)하는 연구가 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Micro PAVER를 국내에 도입하기 위해 필요한 적정화 연구를 수행하였다 Micro PAVER의 논리 및 구조를 분석하여 Micro PAVER 운영에 주요하게 작용하는 부분을 기존 포장평가자료와 포장 전문가의 설문조사 방법을 이용하여 적정화하였다. 주요 적정화 부분은 포장파손예측모형, critical PCI, PCI에 따른 유지보수비용, 유지보수공법 및 단가, PCI 등급이다. The management of existing airfield pavement information has currently become difficult and the maintenance cost has increased over time due to the long-term performance. It is needed to develop the method for effective budget allocation and systematic airfield pavement management services. The objectives of this paper are to introduce Micro PAVER, one of the popular pavement management systems, into our management system and customize Micro PAVER based on our environment and pavement management level. This study focused on the analysis on logics and structures of Micro PAVER and customization of important parts in the program using the existing pavement evaluation data and survey method. Customized items selected in this study included the pavement deterioration prediction models, critical PCI, maintenance cost by PCI, maintenance or rehabilitation method and unit cost, and PCI rank.

A putative gamma herpesvirus, termed human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), discovered in recent years, has been implicated as a possible etiologic agent for Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). In South Korea, the incidence of KS in HIV seropositive individuals is very low. The cause of its rarity as compared with other countries is unclear. The objective of this study was performed to determine the prevalence of infection with HHV-8 and to clarify the cause of low incidence of KS in Korean populations including HIV seropositive individuals. The study population was composed of 200 blood donors, 220 voluntary visitors for sexual transmitted infection (STI)-testing in the public health centers, and 214 HIV-seropositive individuals. For the detection of HHV-8 antibodies, all blood samples were tested using Advanced Biotechnologies Inc's enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits and the reactive samples were retested using Biotrin International SARL's immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Also, we investigated the seroprevalence of Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV) and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) in order to get more information of HHV-8 and other human herpesviruses transmission in Korea. The prevalence of specific IgG to HHV-8 among mv seropositive individuals was 7.0% {95% confidential interval: $4.0{\sim}11.3%$}. The specific antibody to HHV-8 could be detected only in HIV seropositive men. The prevalences of antibodies to other human herpesviruses unlike HHV-8 were very high even in blood donors. These observations strongly suggest that the rarity of KS in this country may be caused by very low prevalence of HHV-8.

Titanium (Ti) has been widely used in the dental field owing to its good biocompatibility, superior mechanical properties, and excellent corrosion resistance. However, Ti lacks the osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity required to promote mineralization. In the present study, the authors investigated whether apatite-coated Ti and rhBMP-2 treated apatite-coated Ti promote more mineralization than pristine Ti. Characterizations of pristine Ti, apatite-coated Ti, or rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energydispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). In addition, the release profile of rhBMP-2 from rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti was monitored for 28 days, and the biocompatibility of pristine Ti, apatite-coated Ti, and rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti was evaluated by measuring cell proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, calcium deposition, and real-time PCR using MG-63 cells. SEM, EDS, and ATR-FTIR showed that the apatite on apatite-coated Ti surfaces was similar to that of natural bone. Furthermore, rhBMP-2 appeared to be released steadily over 28 days from rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti, and MG-63 cells grown on rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti showed significantly higher proliferation activity, ALP activity, and calcium deposition compared to MG-63 cells grown on pristine Ti or apatite-coated Ti. Furthermore, osteocalcin and osteopontin gene expression in MG-63 cells grown on rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti was significantly greater than that in MG-63 cells grown on pristine Ti or apatite-coated Ti by real-time PCR. Taken together, rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti substrate has enhanced osteoblast function and mineralization. Thus, rhBMP-2/apatite-coated Ti may be a more effective substrate than pristine Ti used in the dental field.
