Rheological characteristics of non-spherical graphite suspensions

Since the microstructure of functional thin films depends on the dispersion characteristics of dense slurry, it is important to control the agglomerative nature of slurries under processing. The present authors have been discussing the model prediction of agglomerative nature and local rate of agglomeration in dense suspensions. The experiments have been peformed under shear flow using the nearly spherical and oblate type graphite particles. In this study, the experiment has been conducted using water and glycerol as dispersion media. Stress control type rheometer was used to measure the slurry rheology. Local agglomeration of graphite particles has been predicted by using Usui's model. The experimental results show that both the shape and slurry processing method affect on the local dispersion condition. The agglomeration formed by oblate type graphite particles seems to be more difficult to break up than that of spherical particles.

육상이나 수상과는 달리 이질 함량이 높은 갯벌이나 늪지에서의 이동수단으로는 항공엔진이나, 프로펠러구동에 의한 호퍼크래프트가 있으나, 고가의 장비이며 조작이 곤란하고 어촌에서 조업하는 사람이 고령화 추세와 부녀자중심으로 되어 있을 뿐 아니라 젊은 사람들이 계속 도시로 유출되고 있어 실제 작업 노동력이 감소되고 있는 추세에서 갯벌작업에서의 운반기로 도입하는 것은 부적절하다. 따라서 효율적인 주행 조건에 맞는 추진체 채택을 위한 국내갯벌의 생태물리학적 지도를 조사 작성하고 현지 조업현장의 설문조사를 통해 각 지역별 갯벌 어획물에 적합한 갯벌운반기와 관련어구 최적설계와, 부녀자 중심 갯벌어업종사자와 평균연령 60대를 감안한 이동과 조작이 간편하며 기동성이 좋은 운반기 및 조업시 밀물 실종사고가 잦은 점과 해풍, 해수에 노출되는 점을 감안한 기동성과 내구성을 지닌 운반기 개발에 대하여 연구하였다. It is very important to development of transportation machinery in mud-zone. Although the transportation systems were developed for sea or shore area, such as the water jet, hovercraft etc. they were can't applicable in mud-zone due high viscosity of mud. In this study, the transportation system was developed on the basis of low purchasing cost, easy handling method and high corrosion resistant material.

Attention effect on the ex date: Evidence from Taiwan

We propose a new explanation for the abnormal return on ex dates. The ex date is a high-publicity event that attracts attention of small investors and moves stock prices, even when there is no tax and no price discreteness. We test this "attention hypothesis" by using a sample of stock dividend distributions in Taiwan. We find that small investors are significant buyers on ex dates, and their purchases are higher for high-attention stocks. The ex-date returns are also higher for the same kinds of stocks. Our attention hypothesis imposes nonlinear restrictions on coefficients across regressions, and we cannot reject them.
A Study of Consumer Preference among Different Patterns and Color Collocations

This research topic focuses on how products designed utilizing the digital inject printing technology will affect consumers" purchasing intention and behavior. Digital inject printing is a revolutionary innovation of fabric printing technology in the textile manufacturing process; through this process, the data can be utilized to monitor the textile printing quality; and to overcome the traditional fabric printing limitation. This research used 12 pictures featuring product designs in different styles and colors to analyze how customers will favor each one of the different combinations. Based on the 12 pictures, we will verify what the preferred interviewee"s characteristics are. The results show that interviewees whose older age, higher monthly income, and greater monthly disposable income had a distinct preference in images of classic and modem designs in bright, cool/warm color mixing; meanwhile, these interviewees signify their preference of silky, soft and smooth hand-felt material. Other interviewees" preferences were also discussed in the article. This research finding concerning product designs of styles and colors represent some important information about the future of new product development regarding the application of innovative digital inject printing technology.
Cyclic Deformation and Phase Transformation of 6Mo Superaustenitic Stainless Steel

A fatigue behavior analysis was performed on superaustenitic stainless steel UNS S31254 (Avesta Sheffield 254 SMO), which contains about 6 wt.% molybdenum, to examine the cyclic hardening/softening trend, hysteresis loops, the degree of hardening, and fatigue life during cyclic straining in the total strain amplitude range from 0.2 to 1.5 %. Independent of strain rate, hardening occurs first, followed by softening. The degree of hardening is dependent on the magnitude of strain amplitude. The cyclic stress-strain curve shows material softening. The lower slope of the degree of hardening versus the strain amplitude curve at a high strain rate is attributed to the fast development of dislocation structures and quick saturation. The ε martensite formation, either in band or sheath form, depending on the strain rate, leads to secondary hardening at the high strain amplitude of 1.5 %.

Out of all metal-cutting processes, the hole-making process is the most widely used. It is estimated to be more than 30% of the total metal-cutting process. It is therefore desirable to monitor and detect drill wear during the hole-drilling process. One important aspect in controlling the drilling process is monitoring drill wear status. There are two systems, Basic system and Online system, to detect the drill wear. Basic system comprised of spindle rotational speed, feed rates, thrust, torque and flank wear measured by tool microscope. Online system comprised of spindle rotational speed, feed rates, AE signal, flank wear area measured by computer vision. On-line monitoring system does not need to stop the process to inspect drill wear. Backpropagation neural networks (BPNs) were used for on-line detection of drill wear. The output was the drill wear state which was either usable or failure. This paper deals with an on-line drill wear monitoring system to fit the detection of the abnormal tool state.
