Fabrication of a GEM Detector and Its Signal Readout with a Homemade Readout Board

The gas electron multiplier (GEM) chamber fabricated in this experiment had a double GEM structure, and Ar and CO$_2$ gases were used as the counting and the quencher gases, respectively, with a mixing ratio of Ar : CO$_2$ = 80 : 20. A homemade readout board was used to read the electric signals from the GEM detector. The analog-to-digital converter (ADC) was synchronized with the trigger signal, and the converted digital values were fed to a personal computer (PC) by the data acquisition (DAQ) program. The whole detector system was tested with an Fe-55 radiation source (5.9 keV), and we calculated the mass attenuation coefficients for a Cu and an Ar/CO$_2$ gas mixture under 5.9 keV X-ray irradiation. From the results, we found that the Cu film (cathode) played an important role in the signal generation.
Evaluation of renewable energy power generation in Korea

The rise of public interests in renewable energy causes the rapid expansion of power generation from renewable sources in Korea. In this paper, using discount flow techniques and real option approaches, we examined the future consumer benefits from adopting renewable power generators as the alternative power source. Among many alternative energy options prospects can chose, the case of Photovoltaic technology (PV) based generator is carefully examined since PV generators are the most widely adopted and popular choice in Korea. Through applying the model into an ongoing project in Korea, a viability of the PV based power generator for the residential purpose is verified and possible policies to increase a residential user of a PV generator at the present stage are suggested.

Syntactic studies make use of the minimally pairwise sentences as an argumentation tool, because the pairs allow us to pay attention to the constraints of interest. Likewise, it is helpful to use a set of minimal pairs in deep learning-based experiments for assessing the syntactic ability of neural language models. In this context, this study verifies whether the deep learning Korean model has the ability to properly distinguish the well-formed expressions and the corresponding ill-formed expressions. In the meanwhile, this study serves to examine the feasibility of the language resource constructed by the Korean government for deep learning architecture. The research is three-fold. First, we conducted an acceptability judgment testing to verify whether and how the language resource used in this study is indeed trustworthy. The results indicate that the judgments provided in the language resource converge with the judgments of our own experiment well enough. Second, we employed four Korean models such as mBERT, KoBERT, KR-BERT, KorBERT in order to evaluate how the language resource has a potentiality to predict the well-formedness of Korean expressions. The different models yield different results, the reason of which is fully discussed. Third, we made use of an independent test-set for evaluating the deep learning systems. It turns out that the results are still challenging, which implies that the current Korean models may have room for improvement to understand the syntactic phenomena.

2010년 12월 21일 경춘선 복선전철의 완전개통으로 인하여 당초 상봉~춘천간 100분에 운행되던 열차가 ITX 좌석형 급행열차 운행으로 용산~춘천간은 73분, 청량리~춘천간은 57분에 주파하는 등 춘천과 강원권의 관광산업에 획기적인 영향을 주고 있다. 하지만 경춘선 노선이 수도권 북부 및 경기 동북부에 편중되어 있는 관계로 최대의 수요유발 지역이라고 할 수 있는 강남권 및 수도권 동남부 지역에 대한 철도 이용객을 끌어 들이지 못하는 것도 또한, 사실이다. 이에 강남권 및 수도권 동남부 지역의 철도 이용객 NEEDS를 객관적인 정량화를 위하여 설문조사를 실시하고, NEED를 충족시킬 수 있는 경춘선 접근성 향상을 위해 현재 추진 중인 광역철도의 조기개통 및 수도권 순환철도 연결 등을 제시하여 강남권 등 수도권 지역의 철도 이용객이 만족할 수 있는 경춘선 이용 증대방안을 마련코자 한다. Gyeongchun double track line was completely open in Dec.21,2010. The time which originally cost 100 minutes for Sangbong-Chuncheon became 73 minutes for Yongsan-Chuncheon and 57 minutes for Cheongnyangni-ChunCheon with the start of ITX seat express train service, and it brought epoch-making influences to the tourism of Chuncheon and Gangwon area. However, since Gyeongchun line is located too much toward the north capital area and northeast of Gyeonggi, so it could not attract railway users of Gangnam and southeast capital area which could be considered the area with the most needs for railway service. Thus, for the objective quantification of Gangnam area and southeast capital area railway user’s needs, surveys are to be carried out, and in order to increase the accessibility of Gyeongchun line and meeting the& & user’s needs, early opening of currently promoting sustainable railway and connection to the capital area circular railway are to be suggested, so to draw up the Gyeongchun line use increase plan which could satisfy the railway users of all capital area including Gangnam etc.

This paper introduces DeepKLM, a deep learning library for syntactic experiments. The library enables researchers to use the state-of-the-art deep computational language model, based on BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers). The library, written in Python, works to fill the masked part of a sentence with a specific token, similar to the Cloze task in the traditional language experiments. The output value of surprisal is related to human language processing in terms of speed and complexity. The library additionally provides two visualization tools of the heatmap and the attention head visualization. This article also provides two case studies of NPIs and reflexives employing the library. The library has room for improvement in that the BERT-based components are not entirely on par with those in human language sentences. Despite such limits, the case studies imply that the library enables us to assess human and deep learning machines’ language ability.
The Unreliability of MTT Assay in the Cytotoxic Test of Primary Cultured Glioblastoma Cells

<P>MTT assay is commonly used to assess the cellular cytotoxicity caused by anticancer drugs in glioblastomas. However, there have been some reports insisting that MTT assay exhibited non-specific intracellular reduction of tetrazolium which led to underestimated results of cytotoxicity. Here, we examine whether or not MTT assay can lead to incorrect information regarding alcohol-induced cytotoxicity on immortalized and primary glioblastoma cells. MTT assay was applied to assess the ethanol-induced cytotoxicity at various ethanol concentrations. The cellular cytotoxicity induced by different doses of ethanol was analyzed and compared through several cytotoxic assays. Ethanol-induced cytotoxicity observed through MTT assay on both cell types was shown to be ethanol dose-dependent below a 3% concentration. However, the cytotoxicity was shown to be markedly underestimated only in primary cells at a 5% concentration. RT-PCR and Western Blot showed increased expressions of pro-apoptotic proteins and decreased expressions of anti-apoptotic proteins in an ethanol dose-dependent manner in both cell types. Furthermore, we present a possible mechanism for the unreliable result of MTT assay. A high concentration of ethanol induces more severe membrane damage and increased intracellular concentration of NADH in primary cells which enhances the nonspecific reduction of tetrazolium salt. Together, our findings demonstrate that the cytotoxicity on primary cells could inaccurately be assessed when detected through MTT assay. Therefore, a careful interpretation is needed when one would analyze the cytotoxic results of MTT assay, and it is suggested that other assays must be accompanied to produce more reliable and accurate cytotoxic results on primary glioblastoma cells.</P>
