        Parent Artery Complex Coil Protection for Side-Branched Wide-Neck Aneurysms

        This study aimed to validate the usefulness of parent artery complex coil protection for the treatment of wide-neck, side-branched, and ruptured aneurysms. A microcatheter was first introduced into the aneurysmal sac, and another microcatheter was introduced into the parent artery or near the orifice of the branch artery. A framing coil was deployed partially from the first microcatheter, and a protection coil was deployed from the second microcatheter to prevent protrusion of the first framing coil to the parent artery and side branches. After the first framing coil insertion, the protection coil was withdrawn to confirm the stability of the framing coil and blood flow. The procedures with this technique were successful for 3 patients. Parent artery complex coil protection can be an effective and safe coil embolization technique for the preservation of parent and side branch arteries and an alternative method for emergent ruptured cases.

      • Shield Effect of High-Response Electromagnetic Sensor

        To obtain a high-response electromagnetic sensor, the mechanism of shield effect is made clear, where the copper shield is arranged between the primary coil and the secondary coil. To estimate it, a new index is introduced as a ratio of effective magnetic flux among the magnetic flux linked to the secondary coil. According to the numerical calculation, the insertion of the copper shield makes the responsibility index increase. Since the effective flux ratio increases by inserting the copper shield, the magnetic flux is considered to be used effectively to detect the molten steel among the secondary voltage.

        Effects of Fucoxanthin Addition to Ground Chicken Breast Meat on Lipid and Colour Stability during Chilled Storage, before and after Cooking

        Effects of fucoxanthin (FX), a major carotenoid in algae, on lipid peroxidation and meat colour in ground chicken breast meat were investigated. FX and/or ${\alpha}$-tocopherol (Toc) were added to ground samples at a content level of 200 mg/kg. The samples were subjected to a chilling storage test before and after cooking. In the storage test before cooking, neither FX nor Toc affected the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) on days 1 and 6, and FX decreased the L* value and increased the a* and b* values. In the storage test after cooking, both FX and Toc decreased TBARS values on days 1 and 6. FX decreased the L* value and increased the a* and b* values, similar to what occurred in the storage test before cooking. Based on these results, we concluded that FX is a potent ingredient for improvement of the appearance and shelf life of chicken meat and its products.

        Lubricating property of cyano-based ionic liquids against hard materials

        Ionic liquids are expected to be used as a new lubricants and lubricant additives because of their unique properties. However, cyanobased ionic liquids have exhibited poor lubricating property with steel/steel contacts. We evaluated the lubricating properties of cyanobased ionic liquids with steel/hard materials contacts. TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , and tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) DLC were used as hard materials. Six types of ionic liquids, as combination of two types of cations ([EMIM], [BMPL]) and three types of cyanide anions ([DCN], [TCC] and [TCB]), were selected. In sliding tests of steel/TiO 2 and steel/Al 2 O 3 lubricated with [EMIM][DCN], [BMPL][DCN], [EMIM][TCC], [BMPL][TCC] exhibited low friction coefficients of less than 0.1. In addition, steel/Al 2 O 3 and steel/ta-C DLC lubricated with [BMPL][TCB] exhibited very low friction coefficients less than 0.05. On the other hand, high friction coefficients were observed at steel/TiO 2 and steel/Al 2 O 3 contacts lubricated with [EMIM][TCB] and steel/ta-C DLC contact lubricated with [EMIM] cation group. Peeling of the ta-C DLC was observed when [EMIM] cation group was used. ToF-SIMS analysis indicated that the anion was adsorbed on the worn surfaces in the case of low frictional conditions. However, both ions were hardly observed in the case of high frictional conditions. It is considered that the ionic liquids underwent tribo-decomposition on the worn surfaces at low friction coefficient. To evaluate the degree of tribo-decomposition, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used. TGA results indicated that [EMIM][TCB], which exhibited high friction coefficient, had the most highest stability among all ionic liquids. Low stability ionic liquids, however, showed a tendency for low friction coefficient. These results suggest that lubricating properties are related to the stability of ionic liquids.

        Microvascular density under magnifying narrow-band imaging endoscopy in colorectal epithelial neoplasms

        Background/Aims: Magnifying endoscopic classification systems, such as the Japan narrow-band imaging (NBI) Expert Team (JNET) classification, have been widely used for predicting the histologic diagnosis and invasion depth of colorectal epithelial tumors. However, disagreement exists among observers regarding magnifying endoscopic diagnosis, because these classification systems are subjective. We herein investigated the utility of endoscopic microvascular density (eMVD) calculated from magnifying NBI endoscopic images in colorectal tumors. Methods: We reviewed magnifying NBI endoscopic images from 169 colorectal epithelial tumors (97 adenomas, 72 carcinomas/high-grade dysplasias) resected endoscopically or surgically. The eMVD on magnifying NBI endoscopic images was evaluated using image-editing software, and relationships between eMVD and clinical, endoscopic, and pathological findings were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The eMVD in carcinomas (0.152±0.079) was significantly higher than that in adenomas (0.119±0.059, P<0.05). The best cutoff value for distinguishing carcinoma from adenoma was 0.133. Sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 56.9%, 67.0%, and 62.7%, respectively. In addition, JNET type 2B tumors showed significantly higher eMVD (0.162±0.079) compared to type 2A tumors (0.111±0.050, P<0.05). Conclusions: The eMVD as determined by magnifying NBI endoscopy is considered to be a possible objective indicator for differentiating colorectal carcinomas from adenomas.       • The influence of aroma on the work performance and mental state

        In this research, the mechanism which an aroma gives to the improvement of the working efficiency under mental monotonous task was analyzed. Fluctuation of the cerebral blood flow and the fluctuation of electrocardiogram were observed when the test subject is working on mental task. The mental arithmetic of triple figures was set up as the mental task in this study. The peppermint aroma was supplied to the test subjects using a bubbling system when the working efficiency of the subject (mental-arithmetic speed) was delayed. Different density levels of aroma that the test subject likes and dislikes were set up. When the high density level of aroma which a subject does not like was supplied, the improvement of the task performance was not observed. But, when the aroma with the moderate density which a test subject likes was supplied, almost all subjects' working efficiency was improved. Awakening of the subjects in low arousal level, reduction of mental stress and increase of the amount of cerebral blood of the frontal region were observes by supplying aroma. It can be concluded that the preference level is also an important factor besides a medicinal effects to improve the work performance.

        Organic light emitting diodes with nanostructured ultrathin layers at the interface between electron- and hole-transport layers

        Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with nanostructured ultrathin layers inserted at the interface between electron- and hole-transport layers were investigated. The fundamental structure of the OLEDs fabricated by a vacuum evaporation method wasindium-tin-oxide (ITO) anode/copper phthalocyanine (CuPc)/N,N0-diphenyl-N,N0-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,10-diphenyl-4,40-diamine(TPD)/8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum (Alq3)/LiF/Al cathode. Fullerene (C60) and rhodamine B (RhB) molecules were used as thenanosutructured ultrathin layers inserted at the interface between the Alq3 and TPD layers. The electroluminescent (EL) propertieshave been measured for the OLEDs with C60 and RhB ultrathin layers and the dependences on the thickness and the position of theinserted layers were examined. For the OLEDs with the C60 ultrathin layer, the improvements of the drive voltage and EL eciencywere observed. The OLED with the inserted C60 ultrathin lm of a monolayer thickness showed the highest eciency, which wastwice as large as that without C60 layer. On the contrary, the improvements were not observed for the OLEDs with the RhB ul-trathin layer..

        Silicone gel is widely used to encapsulate power modules. The weakness of the insulation system is surface discharges propagating along with the interface between the silicone gel and substrate, which causes electrical degradation called a cavity. To realize more reliable power modules, there are high demands to clarify what mechanism the cavity propagates and what affects final cavity propagation length. This paper introduces our studies about the cavity phenomenon.

        Efficacy of Underwater Endoscopic Mucosal Resection for Superficial Non-Ampullary Duodenal Epithelial Tumor

        Background/Aims: Endoscopic resection (ER) for superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADETs) is challenging. Conventional endoscopic mucosal resection (CEMR) is also problematic due to the anatomical features of the duodenum. Wecompared the safety and efficacy of underwater endoscopic mucosal resection (UEMR) with those of CEMR through a retrospectiveanalysis. Methods: Altogether, 44 consecutive patients with 46 SNADETs underwent ER (18 CEMR cases and 28 UEMR cases) betweenJanuary 2016 and October 2019. We investigated the proportions of en bloc resection, R0 resection, complications, resection time,and total procedure time and compared the outcomes of patients from the CEMR group with those of patients from the UEMRgroup. Results: The median tumor size was 8.0 mm (range, 2.0–20.0 mm). The UEMR group showed a higher proportion of en blocresection (96.4% vs. 72.2%, p<0.05) and significantly lower median resection time and total procedure time (4 min vs. 9.5 min,p<0.05 and 13 min vs. 19 min, p<0.05; respectively) than the CEMR group. No complications were observed. However, two patientstreated with piecemeal resection in the CEMR group had residual tumors. Conclusions: UEMR is a feasible therapeutic option for SNADETs. It can be recommended as a standard treatment.

        Risk Factors for Loosening of S2 Alar Iliac Screw: Surgical Outcomes of Adult Spinal Deformity

        Study Design: Retrospective study.Purpose: To determine the risk factors for S2 alar iliac (S2AI) screw loosening and its association with lumbosacral fusion in patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD).Overview of Literature: S2AI screws have been widely used for ASD surgery in recent years. However, no studies have analyzed the risk factors for loosening of S2AI screws and its association with lumbosacral fusion.Methods: Cases of 50 patients with ASD who underwent long spinal fusion (>9 levels) with S2AI screws were retrospectively reviewed. Loosening of S2AI screws and S1 pedicle screws and bone fusion at the level of L5–S1 at 2 years after surgery were investigated using computed tomography. In addition, risk factors for loosening of S2AI screws were determined in patients with ASD. Results: At 2 years after surgery, 33 cases (66%) of S2AI screw loosening and six cases (12%) of S1 pedicle screw loosening were observed. In 40 of 47 cases (85%), bone fusion at L5–S1 was found. Pseudarthrosis at L5–S1 was not significantly associated with S2AI screw loosening (19.3% vs. 6.3%, <i>p</i>=0.23), but significantly higher in patients with S1 screw loosening (83.3% vs. 4.9%, <i>p</i><0.001). On multivariate logistic regression analyses, high upper instrumented vertebra (UIV) level (T5 or above) (odds ratio [OR], 4.4; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.0–18.6; <i>p</i>=0.045) and obesity (OR, 11.4; 95% CI, 1.2–107.2; <i>p</i>=0.033) were independent risk factors for S2AI screw loosening.Conclusions: High UIV level (T5 or above) and obesity were independent risk factors for S2AI screw loosening in patients with lumbosacral fixation in surgery for ASD. The incidence of lumbosacral fusion is associated with S1 screw loosening, but not S2AI screw loosening.
