A Periodic Harmonics Detection and Trace Technique using Subband Filtering
Sang-Wook Sohn,Hun Choi,Hyeon-Deok Bae 대한전자공학회 2008 ICEIC:International Conference on Electronics, Inf Vol.1 No.1
In this paper, a subband filtering technique for analyzing harmonics is presented. In this method, the filter banks are designed to decompose odd and even order harmonics separetely. And the freqeuncies and amplitudes of the decomposed harmonics are estimated by recursive algorithm. To demonstrate the performances of the developed technique, computer simulitions to the signal with the timevarying frequency and THD are carried out.
Expression of Human $\beta$-defensin 2 mRNA by Lipopolysaccharide in Human Corneal Epithelial Cells
Bae, Eon-Hee,Park, Keon-Wuk,Kim, Jong-Wook,Jang, Byeong-Churl,Lim, Ki-Jo,Jung, Tae-Young,Kwon, Young-Kyu,Shin, Sang-Woo,Kim, Sang-Pyo,Park, Jong-Hyun,Kwon, Taeg-Kyu,Baek, Won-Ki,Suh, Min-Ho The Korean Society for Microbiology 2004 Journal of Bacteriology and Virology Vol.34 No.1
Recently the transcriptional up-regulation of human $\beta$-defensin 2 (HBD-2) by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was found to be associated with NF-${\kappa}B$ binding site. Although the general mechanisms of NF-${\kappa}B$ activation by LPS stimulation are well understood, less is known about the signal transduction pathway leading to LPS-induced NF-${\kappa}B$ activation in human corneal epithelial (HCE) cells. The aim of this study was to investigate the intracellular signals involved in LPS-induced HBD-2 mRNA expression in HCE cells. Pretreatments of inhibitors for NF-${\kappa}B$, protein tyrosine kinase, p38 mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK), and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) attenuated the LPS-induced NF-${\kappa}B$ DNA binding activity and HBD-2 mRNA expression. Furthermore, pretreatments with inhibitors for protein kinase C (PKC), phosphatidylcholine-phospholipase C, phosphatidylinositol-phospholipase C, or phosphatidate phosphohydrolase prevented LPS-induced HBD-2 mRNA expression and HBD-2 promoter-driven luciferase activity. However, the increased expression of HBD-2 mRNA and the increased DNA binding activity of NF-${\kappa}B$ induced by LPS were not changed by the blockage of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and of addition of antioxidants. Forskolin, a protein kinase A (PKA) agonist did not induce HBD-2 mRNA expression. These data demonstrate that LPS-induced HBD-2 mRNA expression via NF-${\kappa}B$ is, at least in part, dependent on PKC, p38 MAPK, JNK, and protein tyrosine kinase status, but appears to be independent on PKA, ERK and ROS in HCE cells. Taken together, there may be more than one signaling pathways that lead to LPS-induced up-regulation of HBD-2 mRNA expression in HCE cells.

The purpose of this study was to develop a new preparation process for chemical transformation of ginseng saponin glycosides to prosapogenins. Ginseng and ginseng extracts were processed under several treatment conditions using ascorbic acid solution. Treating with ascorbic acid at pH 2-3 and above 80℃ increased the ginsenoside Rg3 content of samples to over 3% as compared to other pH levels and temperatures. In addition, ginseng and ginseng extracts that were processed under a high ascorbic acid solution treatment condition (pH 2.0, 5 hr) contained more ginsenoside Rg3 (approximately 16 times) than those processed under a low ascorbic acid solution treatment condition (pH 3.0, 5 hr). The highest quantity of ginsenoside Rg3 (3.434%) occurred when a sample of fine ginseng root extract (AG2-9) was processed with the ascorbic acid solution at pH 2.0 for 9 hr. However, there was no change in the amount of ginsenoside Rg3 when fine ginseng root extracts were processed with ascorbic acid solution at pH 2.0 for over 9 hr. In conclusion, the results indicated that ascorbic acid treatment of ginseng extracts can produce a level of ginsenoside Rg3 that is over 90-fold the amount found in commercial red ginseng.

The purpose of the study was to develop a new process to manufacture ginseng extract containing saponin aglycon of high concentration. The process to transform saponin glycosides to saponin aglycon was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). GCK-1 (open cultured mixture for 1 day at 42℃) had the highest content of protopanaxadiol (0.662%). However, other mixtures (GCK-2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) had less than 0.152% in the content of protopanaxadiol. In case of fermentation by inoculation of Bacillus natto, BNG-5 (B. natto inoculated mixture for 5 days at 42℃) showed the highest content of protopanaxadiol (0.364%). Other mixtures (BNG-1, 2, 3, 4, and 6) also showed the high content of more than 0.2% in protopanaxadiol. B. natto inoculation or open culture fermentation with soybean transformed ginseng saponin glycosides into saponin aglycon.
A Case of Post-Traumatic Pseudocyst in the Spleen SuccessfullyTreated with Alcohol Sclerotherapy
Sang Wook Mun,Taek- Jin Lim,Eun Ha Hwang,이연주,Ung Bae Jeon,박재홍 대한소아소화기영양학회 2015 Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition Vol.18 No.4
This report details a case of post-traumatic pseudocyst in the spleen that was successfully treated with sclerotherapy using ethanol. A sixteen-year-old boy visited our hospital for a follow-up examination of a splenic cyst. He had experi-enced blunt trauma to the abdomen three years prior to presentation. An abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a large cyst of the lower pole of the spleen. The cyst was 6.8×9.5×7.0 cm and conservative management was tried. A follow-up ultrasonographic examination three years later revealed that the size of the cyst was unchanged and another treatment was needed to prevent complications. One session of sclerosis with ethanol (90 mL of 99% ethanol) percutaneously was applied to the cyst. A follow-up after four months revealed that the cyst had completely resolved.

Background: The natural history of hepatitis C virus (HCV)- related cirrhosis has been poorly investigated in hepatitis B virus virus (HBV) endemic area. The aim of this study was to investigate the outcome of HCV-related cirrhosis, and to search for the predictive factors related to poor outcome in Korea. Methods: A prospective, multicenter cohort study was conducted in which 233 patients with HCV-related cirrhosis were enrolled at six university hospitals in Korea from Jan 2007 to Jun 2012, and followed for mean duration of 26 months. Baseline clinical characteristics were collected from the subjects, and the clinical outcomes were defined as development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver transplantation or death. Results: During observation period of 26.5 ± 18.5 months (mean ± SD), HCC developed in 27 patients (12.1%), and mortality in 15 (6.7%) patients. The 5-year cumulative HCC incidence was 34.0%, and the cumulative overall mortality or transplantation at 5 years was 11.8%. At univariate analysis, age > 65 year (P=0.020), absence of anti-HBs (P=0.002), serum albumin level < 3.5 g/dL (P=0.003), and alpha-fetoprotein level > 20 ng/ml (P=0.027) were associated with an increased risk of HCC development. Multivariate analysis showed that serum albumin level < 3.5 g/dL was the independent factor for HCC development (HR 0.195, P=0.001). The independent factors for mortality or transplantation were age > 65 year (HR 3.898, P=0.040), lower serum hemoglobin level (HR 0.547 per 1 g/dL, P=0.001), and presence of ascites (HR 1.974, P=0.010). Conclusions: We found that the cumulative incidence of HCC from HCV-related cirrhosis seems to be high in Korea, similar to that of Japan. Poor liver function represented as serum albumin level or ascites was an independent factor for poor outcomes. Further study on the role of age and past infection of HBV in the HCV-related hepatocarcinogenesis is warranted.
