        The author observed pulse rate, blood pressure and blood glucose change in vari ous conditions of enflurane-nitrous oxide-Oxygen general anesthesia i. e. before anesthesia, after intubation and operation in 25 anesthetic cases of children aging from 4 years old to 10 years old at department of anesthesia of C. N. U. H. The following results were obtained. 1. It revealed increased pulse rate after intubation and operation than before anesthesia.. 2. It revealed increased blood pressure after intubation than before anesthesia. 3. It didn't reveal significantly increased blood glucose after intubation and operation than before anesthesia

Due to side effects of succinylcholine, nondepolarzing muscle relaxants have been tried. Rocuronium is a new nondepolarizing muscle relaxant with a brief onset of action, but devoid of the adverse reaction associated with succinylcholine. Most local anesthetics decrease neuromuscular transmission and ponten-tiate neuromuscular blocks of muscle relaxants. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of lidocaline on the onset time of rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade in adults. Methods: Fourty five patients, ASA physical status Ⅰ or Ⅱ, were randomly divided into three groups. Anesthetic induction with thiopental 5 mg/kg was made. Succinylcholine (1.0 mg/kg) was administered intravenously in group 1. Rocuronium (0.6 mg/kg) was given in group 2, additional lidocaine (1.0 mg/kg) was given intravenously 1 minute prior to the administration of rocuromium in group 3. Neuromuscular blockade was assessed by train-of-four at the adductor pollicis muscle with supramaximal stimulation of the ulnar nerve (2 Hz, 0.2 msec) every 10 seconds. The condition of intubation, the appearance of arrhythmias, side effects of drugs, and the changes of mean arterial pressure and heart rate were checked and compared in peri-induction periods. Results: The onset time of group 1 (55.1 ?? 14.9 sec) was faster than that of group 2 (137.8 ?? 46.0 sec) and group 3 (139.3 ?? 41.0 sec), but there was no difference between the onset time of group 2 and that of group 3. Intubating conditions were good or excellent in all groups, but group 1 and 3 were better than group 2. There was no difference between the three groups in hemodynamics. More adverse effects were observed in group 1, that of group 2 and 3 were observed in only one case. Conclusions: The authors concluded that licocaine is not effective on the onset time of rocuronium, but improves the intubating condition. Rocuronium is devoid of side effects of succinylcholine, but not a alternative to succinylcholine because its onset time is too slow when compared with succinylcholine.         A Comparison of 2-Octyl Cyanoacrylate Adhesives versus Conventional Suture Materials for Eyelid Wound Closure in Rabbits

        <P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>To evaluate the clinical efficacy and histopathological tolerance of 2-octyl cyanoacrylate versus conventional suture materials for eyelid wound closure in rabbits.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>We performed an experimental study on 16 eyes of eight New Zealand albino rabbits. Eyelid incisions of 15 mm were done 4mm from the upper eyelid margin in both eyes. The eyes of the rabbits were divided into two groups: eyelid incisions of the right eye were closed by a 2-octyl cyanoacrylate adhesive (group A) and eyelid incisions of the left eye were closed by 7-0 nylon sutures (group B). At 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks after surgery, the rabbits were macroscopically examined and then sacrificed. The specimens of their eyelid tissues were stained by a hematoxylin and eosin stain and Masson-trichrome stain, and were observed under microscope.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Both eyelid surgical closure methods were found to be equally efficacious in fixing the eyelids of groups A and B, and their clinical efficacy was similar. Histopathological findings of the hematoxylin and eosin stain of group A showed less inflammatory infiltration than group B at 2 weeks. There were no significant histopathological differences between the two groups at 1, 4, and 8 weeks. The degree of fibrosis of the Masson-trichrome stain was similar between the two groups at 8 weeks.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>The 2-octyl cyanoacrylate adhesive proved to be an effective eyelid closure method and was very well tolerated by the skin surface. 2-Octyl cyanoacrylate could be used as an alternative tissue adhesive for eyelid wound closure along with conventional suture materials.</P>

      • Duplex Bioelectronic Tongue for Sensing Umami and Sweet Tastes Based on Human Taste Receptor Nanovesicles

        <P>For several decades, significant efforts have been made in developing artificial taste sensors to recognize the five basic tastes. So far, the well-established taste sensor is an E-tongue, which is constructed with polymer and lipid membranes. However, the previous artificial taste sensors have limitations in various food, beverage, and cosmetic industries because of their failure to mimic human taste reception. There are many interactions between tastants. Therefore, detecting the interactions in a multiplexing system is required. Herein, we developed a duplex bioelectronic tongue (DBT) based on graphene field-effect transistors that were functionalized with heterodimeric human umami taste and sweet taste receptor nanovesicles. Two types of nanovesicles, which have human T1R1/T1R3 for the umami taste and human T1R2/T1R3 for the sweet taste on their membranes, immobilized on micropatterned graphene surfaces were used for the simultaneous detection of the umami and sweet tastants. The DBT platform led to highly sensitive and selective recognition of target tastants at low concentrations (ca. 100 nM). Moreover, our DBT was able to detect the enhancing effect of taste enhancers as in a human taste sensory system. This technique can be a useful tool for the detection of tastes instead of sensory evaluation and development of new artificial tastants in the food and beverage industry.</P>

        국립생물자원관은 2010년부터 우리나라 생물종을 대상으로 IUCN 적색목록 범주에 따른 종 평가를 실시하여 국가생물적색자료집을 발간하여 왔다. 2010년부터 2014년까지 관속식물, 척추동물, 무척추동물 등 주요 분류군 에 대해 평가를 실시하여 총 10권의 자료집을 발간하였고, 2019년부터는 기존 평가 종을 대상으로 재평가를 실시 하여 지금까지 총 9권의 자료집을 재발간하였으며, 내년에 거미류 자료집 발간으로 재평가를 마무리할 예정이 다. 현재까지 총 4,353종에 대한 IUCN 적색목록 범주에 따른 평가를 완료하였으나 이는 전체 자생생물종 58,050 종 대비 약 7.5%에 불과하다. 따라서, 2024년부터는 평가가 이루어지지 않은 신규 분류군에 대한 평가를 수행할 예정이다. 또한, 2019년부터는 IUCN 적색목록팀과 함께 우리나라 고유종에 대한 평가를 수행하여 IUCN 적색목 록에 등재하는 작업을 수행하였고, 이를 통해 총 150종의 고유종을 IUCN 적색목록 사이트에 등재를 완료하고 보고서를 발간하였다.

        Efficacy and Safety of Penile Girth Enhancement Using Hyaluronic Acid Filler and the Clinical Impact on Ejaculation: A Multi-Center, Patient/Evaluator-Blinded, Randomized Active-Controlled Trial

        Purpose:Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of penile girth enhancement (PGE) using hyaluronic acid (HA) filler with different physical properties from previous studies. Additionally, we evaluated the clinical impact on ejaculation after PGE. Materials and Methods:Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, patient/evaluator-blinded, randomized, active-controlled, multicenter trial. Patients recruited between December 2017 and March 2018 were randomly assigned to the HA filler or control group (poly-lactic acid [PLA] filler). Penile girth, satisfaction level, Premature Ejaculation Profile (PEP), and self-estimated intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) were assessed at baseline and at 24 weeks post-injection. Results:Results: Sixty-four subjects (32 in each group) completed the trial. The mean increase in girth was 22.74±12.60 mm and 20.23±8.73 mm in the HA and control groups, respectively. Satisfaction level regarding penile appearance and sexual life significantly increased in both groups. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of in-crease in penile girth or change in satisfaction level. Both groups showed significant improvements in PEP index scores. Self-estimated IELT also significantly increased in the HA group (from 5.36±3.51 to 7.86±4.73 minutes, p=0.0001) and control group (from 5.23±3.55 to 6.43±4.22 minutes, p=0.021). No serious adverse events (AEs) were reported. CCoonncclluussiioonnss:: PGE with HA and PLA fillers resulted in significant enhancement of girth without serious AEs with no significant differences. Furthermore, PGE using filler improved clinical symptoms related to ejaculation.

        Efficacy and Safety of Pregabalin for Muscle Cramps in Liver Cirrhosis: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial

        Background: Muscle cramp is possibly related to peripheral nerve hyperexcitability (PNH), and one of the most debilitating symptoms frequently encountered in patients with liver cirrhosis. We investigated whether pregabalin, a gamma-aminobutyric acid analogue, can suppress neuronal excitability and reduce muscle cramps in cirrhotic patients. Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in which study participants with cirrhosis from a single tertiary center were enrolled. Primary endpoint was the relative change in cramp frequency from the run-in to standard dose treatment phase (4 weeks per each). Secondary endpoints included the responder rate, and the changes in cramp frequency during sleep, pain intensity, health-related quality of life (Liver Disease Quality of Life Instrument, Short Form-36) and electrophysiological measures of PNH. Results: This study was terminated early because of insufficient accrual. 80% (n = 56) of the target number of participants (n = 70) were randomized to pregabalin (n = 29) or placebo (n = 27). Median baseline frequency of muscle cramps (interquartile range) was 5.8 (3.5–10) per week in the pregabalin group and 6.5 (4.0–10) in the placebo group (P = 0.970). The primary analysis showed a significant reduction in cramp frequency with pregabalin compared to placebo (−36% vs. 4.5% for the percentage change, P = 0.010). Secondary outcomes did not differ significantly between the two groups. Adverse effects with pregabalin were mainly dizziness and lethargy. Conclusion: With multiple problems emerging from premature termination in mind, the results suggested an acceptable safety profile and favorable effect of pregabalin in reducing muscle cramps compared to placebo in cirrhotic patients.

      • 멀티버너 보일러용 열교환기 모듈 특성 시험

        We develop a heat exchanger modules for a multi-burner boiler. The heat exchanger module is kind of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This heat recovery system has 4 heat exchanger modules. The 1st module consists of 27 bare tubes due to high temperature exhaust gas and the others consist of 27 finned tubes. The maximum steam pressure of each module is 1 ㎫ and tested steam pressure is 0.7 ㎫. In order to test these heat exchanger modules, we make a 0.5t/h flue tube boiler (LNG, 40 Nm3/h). We tested the heat exchanger module with changing the position of each heat exchanger module. We measured the inlet and outlet temperature of each heat exchanger module and calculated the heat exchange rate. The results show that if module C is placed at second stage (the 1st stage is always module O, bare tube module), there is no need to attach an additional heat exchanger module. In this case the exit temperature of module C is low enough to enter an economizer which is more effective in heat recovery than a heat exchanger module.
