A new fungus, Ophiocordyceps alboperitheciata, parasitic on the larva of Noctuidae (Lepidoptera) was identified from a survey of entomopathogenic fungi in Kunming Wild Duck Forest Park, Yunnan Province, China. It can be primarily distinguished from relatives by its longer fertile parts, sterile tips, superficial perithecia, narrower asci, and smaller septa of ascospores. As revealed from phylogenetic analyses inferred from nrSSU, nrLSU, tef-1α, rpb1, and rpb2 sequence data, O. alboperitheciata belongs to the Hirsutella citriformis clade in the genus Ophiocordyceps of Ophiocordycipitaceae, and forms a separated clade from other related species. The uniqueness of the taxon is significantly evidenced by both molecular phylogeny and morphology. Furthermore, the interspecific relationships in the H. citriformis clade are discussed.

Background: Myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury (MIRI) is an important mechanism of post-myocardial infarction injury and a main cause of death in patients with ischemic heart disease. Electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment is effective for the prevention and treatment of MIRI, but mechanisms mediating the effects of cardiovascular disease EA treatments remain unclear. Objectives: To determine whether the lateral hypothalamus (LHA) and the cerebellar fastigial nucleus (FN) are involved in the protective effects of EA stimulation on MIRI. Methods: EA pretreatment was performed for 7 days before the establishment of the MIRI model. ST-segment changes on electrocardiograms were recorded and the Curtis–Walker arrhythmia score was used to evaluate changes in reperfusion injury. Hematoxylin–eosin staining was applied to evaluate the pathological and morphological changes in myocardial tissue. c-fos expression in the LHA and FN was determined by immunofluorescence staining. Glutamic (Glu) and γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels were measured using a high-performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical method. Results: EA pretreatment reduced ST-segment elevation, arrhythmia scores, and morphological changes in MIRI myocardial cells in rats, and decreased the c-fos protein expression in LHA/FN nuclei. MIRI was associated with an imbalance between GABA and Glu levels, whereas EA pretreatment increased GABA levels and decreased Glu levels in the LHA/FN. Conclusion: FN and LHA are involved in the EA-mediated attenuation of MIRI. Pretreatment with EA plays a protective role in the myocardium by regulating Glu and GABA release in the LHA and FN.
Granular Effects on Depositional Processes of Debris Avalanches
Yu-xiang Hu,Hai-bo Li,Shun-chao Qi,Gang Fan,Jia-wen Zhou 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.24 No.4
Debris avalanches generally have massive mobility and extensive deposited area, which have strong relation to the granular effect. The granular effect is an outcome from the interaction (based on frictional mechanism) among particles. Discrepancy of grain composition, for instance the difference of particle size and their proportion of particles, is a key factor to influence granular effect. A series of laboratory tests have been conducted to research the granular effects on depositional processes of debris avalanches containing fine- and coarse-grained particles. The velocity of debris front, the morphology characteristics and runout distance of the debris avalanche are considered in detail, and the mass parameter and the size parameter are introduced in analysis for the research of granular effect. The experimental results indicate that the granular effects can decrease the dissipation of momentum and increase the accumulation region, leading to further runout distance and more extensive deposited areas. Further, the velocity, the range of depositions of debris avalanches are larger than that in other conditions when the proportion of fine-grained particles is 30%, especially the materials consist of heterogeneous granular. It means there have a critical mass parameter in experiments which lead to the high efficiency of granular effects, and the granular effect is weakening in homogeneous granular composition.

The present study was based on the unexpected discovery that norcantharidin exerted anti-angiogenesis activity when effects on growth of human colon cancer were studied. The aim was to further verify this finding and explore possible mechanisms using a tumor xenograft model in nude mice. We confirmed that norcantharidin (5 or 15 mg/kg) could inhibit angiogenesis of human colon cancer in vivo. In vitro, crossing river assay, cell adhesion assay and tube formation assay indicated that NCTD could reduce the migration, adhesion and vascular network tube formation ability of HUVECs. At the same time, the expression levels of VEGF and VEGFR-2 proteins which play important roles in angiogenesis were reduced as examined by western blotting analysis. Taken together, the results firstly showed NCTD could inhibit angiogenesis of human colon cancer in vivo, probably associated with effects on migration, adhesion and vascular network tube formation of HUVECs and expression levels of VEGF and VEGFR-2 proteins.
Family History, Tobacco Smoking, and Risk of Ischemic Stroke
Mengyu Fan,Jun Lv,Canqing Yu,Yu Guo,Zheng Bian,Songchun Yang,Ling Yang,Yiping Chen,Feifei Li,Yaoming Zhai,Ping Wang,Junshi Chen,Zhengming Chen,Lu Qi,Liming Li 대한뇌졸중학회 2019 Journal of stroke Vol.21 No.2
Background and Purpose Both genetic factors and smoking are associated with ischemic stroke (IS) risk. However, little is known about the potential interaction of these factors. We aimed to assess whether smoking and a positive family history interact to increase the risk of IS. Methods The nationwide prospective study recruited 210,000 men and 300,000 women in 2004 to 2008 at ages 30 to 79 years. During 9.7 years of follow-up, we documented 16,923 and 20,656 incident IS cases in men and women without major chronic diseases at baseline, respectively. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to examine associations between family history and IS. Likelihood ratio tests were used to test the smoking-family history interactions on IS. Results About 67.8% (n=135,168) of men ever smoked regularly compared with 2.7% (n=7,775) of women. Among men, a significant interaction between family history and smoking on IS was observed (P for interaction=0.03), with more pronounced association between family history and IS among ever-regular smokers (hazard ratio [HR], 1.21; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.16 to 1.27) than among never-smokers (HR, 1.11; 95% CI, 1.01 to 1.23). The association between family history and IS among ex-smokers after more than 10 years of cessation (HR, 1.01; 95% CI, 0.85 to 1.20) appeared similar to that among never-smokers. Among women, a similar but not significant interaction between family history and smoking on IS was observed. Ever-regular smokers who had a family history of stroke had the highest risk of IS. Conclusions Among Chinese men, the association of family history with IS was accentuated by smoking, and such accentuation tended to be lowered by cessation.
Consolidation of Thawing Permafrost Considering Phase Change
Jilin Qi,Xiaoliang Yao,Fan Yu 대한토목학회 2013 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.17 No.6
When permafrost thaws, consolidation occurs under surcharge loads, leading to settlement which is one of the largest threats to infrastructures constructed in permafrost regions. This paper proposes a three dimensional thaw consolidation theory combining Biot’s consolidation theory with heat conductive equations considering ice-water phase change effects through specific heat. Numerical simulation was implemented. The theory was verified by comparing the degree of consolidation and pore pressure ratio calculated by this theory with that from closed form solutions for a simplified one dimensional problem. Thaw consolidation tests were carried out on frozen soil samples with four water contents and under two surcharge loads. Strains occurring in the tests were compared with those from the numerical calculations. It is found that with low water contents in the frozen soil, strain from thaw consolidation was relatively small, and was well simulated by the proposed theory. With increase in water content of frozen soils, the discrepancy between calculated and test results increases.

High purity emodin is in great demand with the development of medical treatment. Molecularly imprinted membranes (MIMs) have gained wide attention for selective separation of emodin due to its preferable selectivity. In this work, we describe a simple two-step method for developing emodin-imprinted TiO2@CA (ETMIMs) and emodin-imprinted SiO2@CA (ESMIMs) based on organic–inorganic nanoparticle (SiO2/TiO2) modified cellulose acetate membranes at room temperature. SiO2/TiO2 is used to improve the structural stability and roughness of membranes, and dopamine is used as the functional monomer and crosslinker. Importantly, the as-prepared membranes not only exhibited enhanced rebinding capacity (ETMIMs = 30.73 mg g -1 and ESMIMs = 46.04 mg g -1) but also possessed superior rebinding selectivity (2.76 and 2.99 for physcion and 2.42 and 3.30 for aloe emodin onto ETMIMs and ESMIMs) as well as permselectivity (7.59 and 6.69 for physcion and 5.94 and 5.78 for aloe emodin onto ETMIMs and ESMIMs). The regeneration ability of ETMIMs and ESMIMs still maintained 90.4% and 89.2% of the original rebinding capacity after 10 cycling steps, respectively. The ETMIMs and ESMIMs obtained in this work show potential applications for selective separation and purification of emodin from analogs.

This paper deals with free vibration analysis of non-uniform column resting on elastic foundations and subjected to follower force at its free end. The internal pores and graphene platelets (GPLs) are distributed in the matrix according to different patterns. The model is proposed with material parameters varying in the thickness of column to achieve graded distributions in both porosity and nanofillers. The elastic modulus of the nanocomposite is obtained by using Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model. The differential quadrature method as an efficient and accurate numerical approach is used to discretize the governing equations and to implement the boundary conditions. It is observed that the maximum vibration frequency obtained in the case of symmetric porosity and GPL distribution, while the minimum vibration frequency is obtained using uniform porosity distribution. Results show that for better understanding of mechanical behavior of nanocomposite column, it is crucial to consider porosities inside the material structure.
