        Metastasis associated genomic aberrations in stage II rectal cancer

        Genomic aberrations of rectal carcinoma, especially DNA copy number changes associated with metastasis were largely unclear. We aim to identify the metastasis associated biomarkers in stage II rectal cancer. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded primary tumor tissues of stage II rectal carcinoma were analyzed by array-based comparative genomic hybridization, and genomic aberrations were identified by Genomic Workbench and SAM software. Copy number changes and mRNA expressions were validated by Real-time PCR in an independent rectal cancer samples. The results showed that the most frequent gains in stage II rectal cancer were at 1q21.2-q23.1, 3p21.31, 11q12.2-q23.3, 12q24.11-q24.31, 12q13.11-q14.1 and losses in 18q11.2-q23, 17q21.33-q22, 13q31.1-q31.3, 21q21.1-q21.3, 8p23.3-p23.1 and 4q22.1-q23. Twenty-two amplifications and five homozygous deletions were also identified. We further found that S100A1 (1q21.3-q23.1), MCM7 (7q22.1) and JUND (19p13.11) were amplified and overexpressed in stage II rectal cancer. Interestingly, the genomic aberrations affected 14 signaling pathways including VEGF signaling pathway and fatty acid metabolism. Most importantly, loss of 13q31.1-q34 and gain of 1q44 were associated with distant metastasis. Our results indicated that these metastasis associated genomic changes may be useful to reveal the pathogenesis of rectal cancer metastasis and identify candidate biomarkers.

        Recent advances of bioactive proteins/polypeptides in the treatment of breast cancer

        Proteins do not only serve as nutrients to fulfill the demand for food, but also are used as a source of bioactive proteins/polypeptides for regulating physical functions and promoting physical health. Female breast cancer has the highest incidence in the world and is a serious threat to women’s health. Bioactive proteins/polypeptides exert strong anti-tumor effects and exhibit inhibition of multiple breast cancer cells. This review discussed the suppressing effects of bioactive proteins/polypeptides on breast cancer in vitro and in vivo, and their mechanisms of migration and invasion inhibition, apoptosis induction, and cell cycle arrest. This may contribute to providing a basis for the development of bioactive proteins/polypeptides for the treatment of breast cancer.

        Harmonic Structure Features for Robust Speaker Diarization

        In this paper, we present a new approach for speaker diarization. First, we use the prosodic information calculated on the original speech to resynthesize the new speech data utilizing the spectrum modeling technique. The resynthesized data is modeled with sinusoids based on pitch, vibration amplitude, and phase bias. Then, we use the resynthesized speech data to extract cepstral features and integrate them with the cepstral features from original speech for speaker diarization. At last, we show how the two streams of cepstral features can be combined to improve the robustness of speaker diarization. Experiments carried out on the standardized datasets (the US National Institute of Standards and Technology Rich Transcription 04-S multiple distant microphone conditions) show a significant improvement in diarization error rate compared to the system based on only the feature stream from original speech.

        Cooperative Containment Formation for Discrete-time Heterogeneous Networks by Double Compensators

        In this paper, two practical distributed observers are constructed to solve the cooperative robust containment formation problem for discrete-time linear multi-agent systems. The dynamics of the systems contain uncertain parts. A containment error is presented to guarantee all the outputs of followers converge to the convex hull spanned by the outputs of the leaders. There are two compensators in this paper, we first present a distributed compensator to estimate the information of convex hull, and use an internal compensator to solve the problem of uncertain parts in dynamics. Further more, based on the both compensators, a distributed dynamic output feedback controller is designed to solve the containment control problem for the discrete-time multi-agent systems. Finally, a numerical example is given to verify the effectiveness of the main results.

      • Pituitary Adenoma Biomarkers Identified Using Proteomic Fingerprint Technology

        Objective: To determine whether pituitary adenomas can be diagnosed by identifying protein biomarkers in the serum. Methods: We compared serum proteins from 65 pituitary adenoma patients and 90 healthy donors using proteomic fingerprint technology combining magnetic beads with matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). Results: A total of 42 M/Z peaks were identified as related to pituitary adenoma (P<0.01). A diagnostic model established based on three biomarkers (3382.0, 4601.9, 9191.2) showed that the sensitivity of diagnosing pituitary adenoma was 90.0% and the specificity was 88.3%. The model was further tested by blind analysis showing that the sensitivity was 88.0% and the specificity was 83.3%. Conclusions: These results suggest that proteomic fingerprint technology can be used to identify pituitary adenoma biomarkers and the model based on three biomarkers (3382.0, 4601.9, 9191.2) provides a powerful and reliable method for diagnosing pituitary adenoma.

        As a fresh impact wave of the popular culture, the success and affection to "Korean wave" can not be neglected whatever the neighbour countries like it or not. It is more important that this wave has been beyond the scope of the public culture and developed into a more realistic economy benefit, which contributes to the Korean economy, meanwhile attributes a new world acknowledgement Korea and it"s people and even changes the impression of Korean substantially. "Korean wave" was first occurred in China, from this point; China could be an original basement of this wave. If the passion singing in the Seoul Olympic games in 1988 gave the Chinese people a new image of Korea, a series of Korea TV programs make the Chinese people know that the Korea is a nation full of confidence, moral courage, value emotion and dare to chase what they want. The hot show of Korean TV play brought about culture effects, and gave a lot of new concepts to Chinese audiences and TV program workers. Chinese TV program making industry began to use the "Korean wave", borrow the successful experiences to use it in home-made movies, try to make the program that match the taste of Chinese audiences and fulfill the needs of domestic audiences. They conduct two applicable methods. One is co-operate with Korea TV making company, the other is to follow the lead of the "Korean wave", made domestic "Korea" TV play. Usually it is called youth idol TV play. The writer will analyze the get and lost of the TV play "Beijing, My Love"and "Apartment of Whitecollar". Why does the "Korean wave" have achieved so much success in the Chinese scream culture market? In my opinion, the main reasons are as follows: Firstly, it is partly due to the characteristics of the transform period in Chinese politics, economy, and culture. Secondly, the visual culture of "Korean wave" has its obvious advantages. Thirdly, after reform open, the consciousness of the Chinese young generation variety has played an important role in the spread of the "Korean wave". Fourthly, the "Korean wave" has comparison advantage in contrast with other substitute cultures from Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan etc. Fifthly, with the promotion and participation from the Korea government, Korea play promote circulation in world culture trade. Sixthly, multinational culture capital takes part in, makes use of the "Korean wav e". and obtains enormous market success. In some aspects, the success of Korean visual culture lies in its dialectic attitude of own culture inheritance and development. Korea is not the simple culture receiver in the past any more, but a culture broadcaster at present, which produce considerable influence on neighbour countries. Then China ought to adapt to this new situation and should neither completely accept Korean wave nor treat it as virus. Culture lives in its mobility and its interaction. and a civilization would be more powerful only when it accepts outside stimulations and challenges now and then. Pluralism and mutual beneficial interaction in culture be the only final direction that "Korean wave" went.

        Facing-target mid-frequency magnetron reactive sputtered hafnium oxide film: Morphology and electrical properties

        Amorphous hafnium dioxide (HfO2) film was prepared on Si (100) by facing-target mid-frequency reactive magnetron sputtering under different oxygen/argon gas ratio at room temperature with high purity Hf target. 3D surface profiler results showed that the deposition rates of HfO2 thin film under different O2/Ar gas ratio remain unchanged, indicating that the facing target midfrequency magnetron sputtering system provides effective approach to eliminate target poisoning phenomenon which is generally occurred in reactive sputtering procedure. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) demonstrated that the gradual reduction of oxygen vacancy concentration and the densification of deposited film structure with the increase of oxygen/argon (O2/Ar) gas flow ratio. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis suggested that the surface of the as-deposited HfO2 thin film tends to be smoother, the root-meansquare roughness (RMS) reduced from 0.876 nm to 0.333 nm while O2/Ar gas flow ratio increased from 1/4 to 1/1. Current-Voltage measurements of MOS capacitor based on Au/HfO2/Si structure indicated that the leakage current density of HfO2 thin films decreased by increasing of oxygen partial pressure, which resulted in the variations of pore size and oxygen vacancy concentration in deposited thin films. Based on the above characterization results the leakage current mechanism for all samples was discussed systematically.

      • Adiponectin Receptor 1 (ADIPOR1) rs1342387 Polymorphism and Risk of Cancer: a Meta-analysis

        Many studies have indicated possible associations between a polymorphism of adiponectin receptor 1 (ADIPOR1) rs1342387 and risk of cancer, but contradictory results have been reported. The main aim of this study was to draw a reliable conclusion about the relationship between the rs1342387 polymorphism and cancer incidence, by conducting a literature search of Pubmed, Embase, Wanfang and Cochrane libraries. Eleven studies including 3, 738 cases and 4, 748 controls were identified in this meta-analysis. The ADIPOR1 rs1342387 polymorphism was associated with risk of colorectal cancer for all genetic comparison models (GG vs AA, OR: 1.44, 95%CI: 1.21-1.70; G carriers vs A carriers, OR: 1.23, 95%CI: 1.11-1.36; dominant model, OR: 1.28, 95%CI: 1.10-1.49 and recessive model, OR: 1.31, 95%CI: 1.12-1.55). Stratified by ethnicity, the rs1342387 polymorphism was significantly associated with risk of colorectal cancer in Asian ancestry for all genetic comparison models (GG vs AA, OR: 1.56, 95%CI: 1.26-1.92; G carriers vs. A carriers OR: 1.30, 95%CI: 1.18-1.43; dominant model OR: 1.31, 95%CI: 1.08-1.60 and recessive model OR: 1.44, 95%CI: 1.26-1.64), but not in Caucasian or mixed (Caucasian mainly) groups. In summary, the ADIPOR1 rs1342387 polymorphism is significantly associated with risk of colorectal cancer among individuals of Asian ancestry.

        Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosome mir-342-3p inhibits metastasis and chemo-resistance of breast cancer through regulating ID4

        Background: The mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosome (MSCs-exo) carrying microRNAs have been proved to regulate tumor biological activities. Clarifying molecular mechanism and identifying predictive microRNAs will be of great value in anti-tumor therapy improvement. Objective: We aimed to investigate the regulatory role of microRNA-342-3p (miR-342-3p) in MSCs-exo on breast cancer. Methods: Breast cancer tissues and cell lines were used to evaluate miR-342-3p expression in patients with or without lymph node/distal organ metastasis. The impact of MSCs-exo expression on tumor cell chemo-resistance and invasion/migration was measured. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assay was applied to identify binding site. Inhibitor of differentiation 4 (ID4) siRNA and miR-342-3p inhibitor transfection was conducted to further explore the miR-342-3p/ID4 axis on chemo-resistance and metastasis of breast cancer cells. Results: Breast cancer cells revealed significantly lower level of miR-342-3p in patients with metastatic diseases. miR-342-3p suppressed invasive and chemo-resistant behavior of breast cancer tumor cells. Binding site between miR-342-3p and ID4 was proved. ID4 could reverse the influence of miR-342-3p on chemo-resistance. The tumor inhibition effect of IDA siRNA in vivo was also identified. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that miR-342-3p acted as potential tumor suppressor by inhibiting metastasis and chemo-resistance of breast cancer cells through targeting ID4. This study might provide potential therapy targets for the treatment of breast cancer.
