Here, we report a highly water-soluble colorimetric and fluorescent pH probe that works in the pH range 0.2–3.0. The probe showed a rapid response, high stability, and excellent reversibility to acidity. Moreover, the fluorescence of probe was not influenced by the existence of high concentration of cations. The pKa of probe was calculated to be 2.25 ± 0.06. Furthermore, the pH test papers coated with the probe exhibited a distinct color change in acidic conditions.
A Comparison between Traditional and Modern Ethics from the Perspective of Social Philosophy
( Xin Qi Jia ) , ( Wan Fu Xi ) 한국윤리학회 2014 倫理硏究 Vol.95 No.1
Social philosophy is the study of people`s conception of basic social objectives. It can be divided into two categories based on two different basic objectives: harmony and strength. Harmony-oriented social philosophy and strength-oriented social philosophy are dominant in traditional society and modern society respectively. From the perspective of social philosophy, we can understand better the differences between traditional ethics and modern ethics.
Enhancement of Virus-induced Gene Silencing in Tomato by Low Temperature and Low Humidity

Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) is an attractive reverse-genetics tool for studying gene function in plants. We showed that silencing of a phytoene desaturase (PDS) gene is maintained throughout TRV-PDSinoculated tomato plants as well as in their flowers and fruit and is enhanced by low temperature (15°C) and low humidity (30%). RT-PCR analysis of the PDS gene revealed a dramatic reduction in the level of PDS mRNA in leaves, flowers and fruits. Silencing of PDS results in the accumulation of phytoene, the desaturase substrate. In addition, the content of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll in the leaves of PDS-silenced plants was reduced by more than 90%. We also silenced the LeEIN2 gene by infecting seedlings, and this suppressed fruit ripenning. We conclude that this VIGS approach should facilitate large-scale functional analysis of genes involved in the development and ripening of tomato.

Event-by-event fluctuations in the multiplicity, the total transverse energy, the mean transverse energy, and the mean transverse momentum in nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energies are uniformly described by using a multi-component Erlang distribution obtained in the framework of a multisource thermal model. The calculated results are compared and found to be in agreement with the experimental data of the WA98, NA49, and PHENIX Collaborations.

MapReduce, as a popular programming model for processing large data sets, has been widely applied. MapReduce 2.0 (MRV2) is a newly adopted one, which has a better performance. Those machines which have a lower performance in a cluster usually play a role who pull down the pace of job execution time. Speculative execution known as an approach for dealing with the above problems works by backing up those tasks running on a low performance machine to a higher one. Although multiple speculative execution strategies have been proposed, there are still a lot of pitfalls existing in the strategies. In this paper, Some pitfalls in proposed strategy have been modified and computer hardware has been taken into consideration (HWC-Speculation). In Hadoop-2.6, we have implemented it, called Hadoop-HWC. Experiment results show that our method can find a slow task correctly, also, the performance of MRV2 is improved.
Migraine Susceptibility Genes in Han Chinese of Fujian Province

Background and Purpose Five single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs4379368, rs10504861, rs10915437, rs12134493 and rs13208321) were recently identified in a Western population with migraine. These migraine-associated SNPs have not been evaluated in a Han Chinese population. This study investigated the associations of specific SNPs with migraine in a Han population. Methods This was a case-control study of Han Chinese residing in Fujian Province. Polymerase chain reaction—restriction-fragment-length polymorphism analysis and direct sequencing were used to characterize the relationships of SNPs in a control group of 200 subjects and in a migraine group of 201 patients. Results The frequencies of the five SNPs did not differ between patients with migraine and healthy non migraine controls. However, subgroup analysis indicated certain SNPs were more strongly associated with migraine with aura or migraine without aura than with controls. The CT genotype of rs4379368 was more common in migraine patients with aura (75%) than in migraine patients without aura (47.9%) and controls (48.5%) (p<0.05), and the TT genotype of rs10504861 was more common in migraine patients with aura than in controls (8.3% vs. 0.5%) (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the CC genotype of rs12134493 was less common in migraine patients without aura than in controls (80.6% vs. 88%) (p<0.05). Conclusions Our findings suggest that the rs4379368 and rs10504861 SNPs are markers for susceptibility to migraine with aura and that rs12134493 is a marker for the risk of migraine without aura in this Han population. Future studies should further explore if these associations vary by ethnicity.

MapReduce (MRV1), a popular programming model, proposed by Google, has been well used to process large datasets in Hadoop, an open source cloud platform. Its new version MapReduce 2.0 (MRV2) developed along with the emerging of Yarn has achieved obvious improvement over MRV1. However, MRV2 suffers from long finishing time on certain types of jobs. Speculative Execution (SE) has been presented as an approach to the problem above by backing up those delayed jobs from low-performance machines to higher ones. In this paper, an adaptive SE strategy (ASE) is presented in Hadoop-2.6.0. Experiment results have depicted that the ASE duplicates tasks according to real-time resources usage among work nodes in a cloud. In addition, the performance of MRV2 is largely improved using the ASE strategy on job execution time and resource consumption, whether in a multi-job environment.

Background/Aims: Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric cancers (EBVaGCs) have unique molecular and clinicopathological characteristics. The cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway is recently recognized as the critical innate immunity against pathogens and tumors. STING is also a master regulator in the cancer-immunity cycle and targeting STING could synergize with existing immune-checkpoint therapies. However, the role of STING in GC, especially in EBVaGC, and its correlation with programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) remain largely unclear. Methods: We collected 78 cases of EBVaGCs and 210 cases of EBV-negative GC (EBVnGC) from a total of 1,443 cases of GC analyzed by EBV-encoded small RNA in situ hybridization. We investigated STING and PD-L1 expression and their concomitant prognostic value in EBVaGCs and EBVnGCs using tissue microarray and immunohistochemistry. The effects of STING and PD-L1 expression on the overall survival of patients with EBVaGC or EBVnGC were assessed by univariate and multivariate analysis. Results: We found that both STING and PD-L1 exhibited significantly higher expression in the EBVaGCs than that in the EBVnGCs. The expression of STING was positively correlated with that of PD-L1 in EBVaGCs. Simultaneous negative expression of STING and PD-L1, and positive expression of STING were independent prognostic risk factors for EBVaGC and EBVnGC, respectively. Conclusions: This is the first prognostic retrospective study of STING and PD-L1 expression and the prognosis among EBVaGC and EBVnGC. The expression and prognostic value of STING and PD-L1 are different in the two types of GCs. STING and PD-L1 are promising prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for EBVaGC and EBVnGC.
