CNDO/2 calculation for atomic charges Wiberg bond orders and adsorption energies of CO molecules on the cluster model whose Si/Al ratio varied were carried out. The data for the normal cluster and dealuminated cluster were compared. Decationization energies of the canons increased with the charge densities of canon and number of aluminum involved. Adsorption process of CO on the monovalent canons such as , Li^-, Na^+ and divalent canons, Be^(2+), Ca^(2+), and Mg^(2-) was supposed to be occurring by the donation of non-bonded electrons from CO. The decationization energies of canons obviously decreased by the dealumination process. Adsorption energies of CO on the canons generally decreased ache dealumination took place except the case of H^+ and Na^+.

<P>We report on the out-of-plane thermal conductivities of epitaxial Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> thin films with thicknesses of 100, 300, and 400 nm, prepared using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) on SiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Si substrates. The four-point probe three-omega (3-<I>ω</I>) method was used for thermal conductivity measurements of the Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> thin films in the temperature range of 20 to 300 K. By measuring the temperature-dependent thermal characteristics of the Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> thin films, we realized that their thermal conductivities significantly decreased with decreasing grain size and thickness of the films. The out-of-plane thermal conductivities of the Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> films were found to be in the range of 0.52 to 3.51 W/m · K at 300 K. For 100-nm film, we found that the thermal conductivity was as low as approximately 0.52 W/m · K, which was 1.7 to 11.5 order of magnitude lower than the thermal conductivity of bulk material at 300 K. Furthermore, we calculated the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity of these Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> films using a simple theoretical Callaway model for comparison with the experimental data. We found that the Callaway model predictions agree reasonably with the experimental data. We then noticed that the thin film-based oxide materials could be efficient thermoelectric materials to achieve high performance in thermoelectric devices.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Objective</B></P> <P>The aim of this study was to define the critical warning sign of real-time brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) for predicting hearing loss (HL) after microvascular decompression (MVD) for hemifacial spasm (HFS).</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>Nine hundred and thirty-two patients with HFS who underwent MVD with intraoperative monitoring (IOM) of BAEP were analyzed. We used a 43.9 Hz/s stimulation rate and 400 averaging trials to obtain BAEP. To evaluate HL, pure-tone audiometry and speech discrimination scoring were performed before and one week after surgery. We analyzed the incidence for postoperative HL according to BAEP changes and calculated the diagnostic accuracy of significant warning criteria.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Only 11 (1.2%) patients experienced postoperative HL. The group showing permanent loss of wave V showed the largest percentage of postoperative HL (<I>p</I> < 0.001). No patient who experienced only latency prolongation (≥1 ms) had postoperative HL. Loss of wave V and latency prolongation (≥1 ms) with amplitude decrement (≥50%) were highly associated with postoperative HL.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Loss of wave V and latency prolongation of 1 ms with amplitude decrement ≥50% were the critical warning signs of BAEP for predicting postoperative HL.</P> <P><B>Significance</B></P> <P>These findings elucidate the critical warning sign of real-time BAEP.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Critical warning sign of real-time BAEP during MVD for hemifacial spasm have been studied. </LI> <LI> Loss of wave V and the significant change of both latency and amplitude are the critical signs. </LI> <LI> Isolated wave V latency prolongation of >1 ms without amplitude loss >50% is not saaociated with postoperative hearing loss. </LI> </UL> </P>

A total of 5,000 ethanolic and methanolic extracts of different plant species from 23 nations including Costa Rica, Vietnam, Philippines, India, South Africa, Pakistan and Peru were evaluated for their larvicidal activities against Aedes aegypti, the major vector of dangue, dangue hemorhagic fever and yellow fever. The larval mortalities were observed 24h after treating the larvae to the extracts. At 500 ppm, 179 extracts showed >80% larval mortality in the 24h exposure. Among the extracts tested, the highest larval mortality was observed in the extracts of Piper guianense, Piper nigrum, Piper mocropodum, Piper sem-immersum, Piper magen and Piper pubicatulum. The LC50 value of extract P. guianense, P. nigrum, P. mocropodum, P. sem-immersum, P. magen and P. pubicatulum were 8.84, 11.48, 8.84, 13.86, 9.48 and 10.12 ppm against Ae. aegypti. It is suggested that P. guianense, P. nigrum, P. mocropodum, P. sem-immersum, P. magen and P. pubicatulum can be developed as potent larvicidal agents against Ae. aegypti.

Rapid identification of pest species found under quarantine is an important factor in preventing an economic loss of agricultural commodities. In this study, we analyzed RNA-Seq of the larvae of C. sasakii, G. molesta and G. dimorpha, which are serious pests in several fruits in Korea and are difficult to discriminate by species in their larval stage because of lack of a morphological character. To select immunological diagnostic markers, discriminating the larvae of C. sasakii from the G. molesta and G. dimorpha, RNA-Seq was performed for the larvae of the three insects. The 454 pyrosequencing generated 3,058-4,686 contigs for each three pest species, which assembled into 2,584-3,970 isotigs with average lengths of 829-1,244 bp. Functional annotation of the sequencing results generated 774 orthologs for the three pest species, and 12 isotigs were finally registered as candidate markers for species discrimination through bioinformatical screening, literature search, and gene expression study. The selected candidates include serine proteases, serpins, 27 kDa glycoprotein and storage protein with a constitutive gene expression in their larvae, pupae and adult stage.
