Acoustic Resonant States on the Interface between Density-negative and Modulus-negative Metamaterial

We observed resonant states on the interface between the acoustic metamaterials of negative effective mass density and negative effective modulus, which were based on membranes and side holes, respectively. All resonances excited by placing the driving pressure at different places have the same spatial pressure distribution and resonance frequency. The amplitude decayed exponentially on both sides of the interface. We present experimental results on the spatial and the spectral characteristics of the resonant states.

We propose a broadband reflective metamaterial polarization converter which is composed ofarrays of split-ring resonators (SRRs), a dielectric layer and a continuous metallic layer. For thecase of a loss-free dielectric layer, the average transformation rate is around 90% at frequenciesfrom 6.68 to 10.91 GHz, and the bandwidth is 56.66% of the central wavelength. The increased losstangent of the dielectric layer is shown to induce a reduced transformation rate due to enhancedabsorption.

One of the major societal challenges is reducing the power consumption of information technology (IT) devices and numerous data centers. Distinct from the current approaches based on switching of magnetic single-domain nanostructures or on movement of domain walls under high currents, an original magnetic skyrmion technology offers ultra-low power, fast, high-density, and scalable spintronic devices, including non-volatile random access memory. Using data-driven micromagnetic simulations, we demonstrate the possibility of spontaneous nucleation and stabilization of different skyrmionic states, such as skyrmions, merons, and meron-like configurations, in heavy metal/ferromagnetic nanodisks with the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (iDMI) as a result of quasi-static magnetization reversal only. Since iDMI is not easily modulated in real systems, we show that skyrmion stabilization is easily achievable by manipulating magnetic anisotropy, saturation magnetization, and the diameters of nanodisks. The state diagrams, presented in terms of the topological charge, allow to explicitly distinguish the intermediate states between skyrmions and merons and can be used for developing a skyrmionic medium, which has been recently proposed to be a building block for future spin-orbitronic devices.

Broadband Reflection of Polarization Conversion by 90 in Metamaterial

We developed a reflection polarization convertor by using the conventional metamaterial absorber. The metal-dielectric-metal sandwich structure, in which copper split ring at the front and metallicplane at the back are separated by FR-4, was employed to investigate for the GHz regime. Thisshows that a broadband of 14−18 GHz with reflectance of 36−55% is converted to 90 -polarizationmode, while the original one is nearly harvested (absorption of 95−100%). In other words, theoriginal electromagnetic (EM) wave is “perfectly” absorbed and partly emitted as 90 -twisted EMwave, and the remaining is dissipated as heat.
