Structure Optimization of Solute Molecules via Free Energy Gradient Method
Nagaoka, Masataka Korean Chemical Society 2003 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.24 No.6
Fundamental ideas of the free energy gradient method are briefly reviewed with three applications: the stable structures of glycine and ammonia-water molecule pair in aqueous solution and the transition state (TS) structure of a Menshutkin reaction $NH_3 + CH_3Cl → CH_3NH_3^+ + Cl^-$ in aqueous solution, which is the first example of full TS optimization of all internal degrees of freedom.
Revisiting the Rush Hour of the Gods
Nagaoka Takashi 한국종교사회학회 2017 종교와사회 Vol.5 No.2
With the enforcement of the postwar constitution, which guaranteed freedom of religion, numerous religious corporations emerged in the occupied Japan after its defeat in the World War II. This prosperity of new religions is often called the rush hour of gods. These newly emerged religions were soon severely criticized in the media by journalists. Indeed, their doctrines, as well as organizations, were fairly simple and immature, and many of them disappeared within a short period of time. Thus preceding studies regarded the rush hour of gods as simply a result of the social disorder of the time. During the occupation period, not only the politicians and ruling elites, but the Japanese people themselves participated in various discussions and practices to understand the new concepts of democracy and freedom, which was brought by GHQ, and to make a contribution to the nations social progress. In this socio-cultural context, the emergence of the new gods is understood as Japanese peoples response to the new social order based on their original interpretations of the time. This study will examine these postwar new religions in an attempt to re-evaluate their social and historical significances.

As high as 50% of pregnancies are known to fail and the majority of such losses occur during the peri-implantation period. For the establishment of pregnancy in mammalian species, therefore, implantation of the conceptus to the maternal endometrium must be completed successfully. Physiological events associated with implantation differ among mammals. In ruminant ungulates, an elongation of the trophohlast in early conceptus development is required before the attachment of the conceptus to the uterine endometrium. Moreover, implantation sites are restricted to each uterine caruncula where tissue remodeling, feto-maternal cell fusion and placentation take place in a coordinated manner. These unique events occur under strict conditions and are regulated by numerous factors from the uterine endometrium and trophoblast in a spatial manner. Interferon-tau (IFN-${\tau}$), a conceptus-derived anti-Iuteolytic factor, which rescues corpus luteum from its regression in ruminants, is particularly apt to play an important role as a local regulator in coordination with other factors, such as TGF-${\beta}$, Cox-2 and MMPs at the attachment and placentation sites.
Cyber Education in Japan and APEC Economies
NAGAOKA, KEIZO 이화여자대학교 국제통상협력연구소 2001 Jounal of APEC Studies Vol.3 No.1
Cyber education, i.e. If(Information Technology) use for education, is the keyword for revolution of 21 century's education system for both of Japan and APEC economies. In this paper, a state of IT use in Japan and National Institute of Multimedia Education, Ministry of Education, Japan, as a sample of institute of this field including some research topics are introduced firstly. States of the some other APEC economies are introduced comparatively. In conclusion, problems to consider for these matters and some opinions by the author are proposed.

We examined the reactivity of the N-hydroxyamino derivative of a carcinogenic heterocyclic amine, 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), after its O-acetylation with four 2'-deoxyribonucleoside 3'-monophosphates. ^32P-Postlabeling analysis demonstrated that the levels of adducts with 2'-deoxyguanosine 3'-monophosphate were much higher than those with the other three nucleotides. ^IH-NMR, mass spectral and UV absorption spectral analyses of the major adducts formed by N-acetoxy-PhIP with 2'-deoxyguanosine and with its phosphate esters indicated that PhIP bound at the C-8 position of guanine, as previously demonstrated with other heterocyclic amines.

The characteristics of neutral beam driven current have been investigated in helical devices, which do not need ohmic current to produce a magnetic field configuration. The neutral beam current drive experiments have been performed in a wide range of Zb/Zeff in LHD and CHS. The Z dependence of neutral beam driven current in the region of Zb/Zeff < 1 obtained by neon discharges in LHD agrees with the Ohkawa model. On the other hand, the current driven by neon beam injection in CHS cannot be explained by the Ohkawa model.

This paper analyzes the development of green growth in Japan by making use of frameworks from political economy and policy science. The aim of this paper is to clarify the Japanese style of policy innovation and change in environmental policy, and the prospects for green growth. First, policy competition over the enactment of the Basic Environment Law in the beginning of the 1990s is analyzed. Secondly, three steps aimed at introducing renewable energy pursued since the turn of the century are examined. Finally, prospects for green growth are presented through the analysis of the policies of the Abe government. I will argue that changes in Japanese environmental policy can be characterized as a gradual and evolutionary shift conducted by senior conservative politicians, mostly prompted by exogenous changes or shocks.
An Outlook of Research and Development for the Future Air Traffic Management in Japan
Sakae NAGAOKA 한국항공우주학회 2008 한국항공우주학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.- No.-
Air traffic management (ATM) is defined in an ICAD document as the dynamic, integrated management of air traffic and airspace - safely, economically and efficiently - through the provision of facilities and seamless services in collaboration with all parties. The concept presents the ICAD vision of an integrated, harmonized and globally interoperable ATM system. The planning horizon is up to and beyond 2025. Europe and the United States have developed their own visions/programs for the future ATM systems, i.e., SESAR (Single European Sky A TM Research) and NetGen (Next Generation Air Transportation System), respectively. These programs are based on the concept shown in the ICAD document. In Japan, the Electronic Navigation Research Institute (ENRJ), which is a core research organization of ATM systems, has recently developed its long term research and development (R & D) roadmap. It was developed taking into account those visions and conditions surrounding Japan. Reviewing the visions of ICAD, SESAR and NextGen, ENRI assumed that a key component of the future ATM will be the 4-dimentional trajectory based operation. This paper describes the shift from the current air traffic control (ATC) to the future ATM. Then, the operational concept of the future ATM and R&D towards future ATM systems are explained. Finally ENRI's long term vision and its R&D roadmap are briefly described.
Similar Subgraph Retrieving for Japanese Historical Document Search System
Hiroaki Nagaoka,Mitsuru Nakata,Qi-Wei Ge,Makoto Yoshimura 대한전자공학회 2015 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2015 No.6
In this paper, we propose a retrieval method of similar subgraphs in order to obtain similar partial images used in Japanese historical documents image retrieval system. In our system, the structure of characters is represented by a feature graph, and the structure of a string of each line of Japanese historical documents is stored as a feature graph which is called “document graph”. The structure of a string to be searched is specified as a feature graph that is called “search graph”. A search graph contains an “essential graph”, which shows an indispensable structure included in search results. The processes to search similar partial images are as follows: (1) get subgraphs of document graphs that are isomorphic to the essential graph, and construct candidates of search result from these subgraphs; (2) remove improper candidates based on some conditions; (3) calculate the similarities between remaining candidates and the search graph (these remaining candidates are called “similar subgraph”); (4) clip the partial areas as the search results, which correspond to similar subgraphs with high similarity from Japanese historical document images.
