Descriptions of two new species of Histeridae (Coleoptera) in Korea
Ôhara Masahiro,안기정 한국응용곤충학회 2022 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.25 No.3
Two new species [Tribalus (Tribalus) koreanus Ôhara and Ahn new species and Gnathoncus koreanus Ôhara and Ahn new species] are described from the Chungnam National University Insect Collection in Korea. Hololepta (Hololepta) higoniae Lewis is new to the Korean fauna. We also provide a revised key of Korean Histeridae and illustrations of diagnostic characters of these two new species. urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:00D922EF-AD40-460F-BF59-D4C9B3654077.

Diaulota hokkaidona Ahn and Ôhara, sp. n. and Diaulota oharai Ahn and Yoo, sp. n. are described from coastal Hokkaido, Japan. Diaulota hokkaidona Ahn and Ôhara, sp. n. is very similar to D. aokii Sawada and cannot be distinguished by the external morphological characters but they are separated by the structures of median lobe of aedeagus and molecular characters (COI). They can be regarded as cryptic species. The minimum interspecific difference between Diaulota aokii and Diaulota hokkaidona Ahn and Ôhara, sp. n. (6.7%) was much higher than the maximum intraspecific difference of Diaulota hokkaidona Ahn and Ôhara, sp. n. (0.7%) and they contained 17 and 13 molecular diagnostic characters, respectively. The molecular analyses support the validity of two new species based on morphological characters. A revised key is provided for separation of the known species of Diaulota Casey, and descriptions with illustrations of diagnostic features of two new species are presented.

<P>The proton-conductive spots on the membrane surface of sulfonated poly(arylene ether) multiblock copolymer were successfully imaged by current-sensing atomic force microscopy under hydrogen atmosphere at various temperatures and humidities. These spots should be connected to the proton-conductive paths inside the membrane. The average diameter of the spots was approximately 12 nm, consistent with the size of hydrophilic domains observed by transmission electron microscopy. The size of the proton-conducting spots was almost unchanged regardless of the temperature and humidity, whereas the number of the spots increased at higher humidity; the total area of the proton-conducting spots increased accordingly on the membrane surface. This increase in the conducting area at high humidity should be related to the bulk ionic conductivity measured by impedance spectroscopy.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpcbfk/2013/jpcbfk.2013.117.issue-14/jp312041c/production/images/medium/jp-2012-12041c_0011.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/jp312041c'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

A total of six species in six genera of the family Histeridae is documented from the collection of Yeungnam University, Daegu, South Korea. Platysoma (Platysoma) jongwooki sp. nov. and Niposoma lewisi Marseul are described and redescribed with illustrations of the diagnostic characters, respectively. Key to Korean species of the tribe Platysomatini is provided.
Dynamic Instability of a Flexible Disk Rotating in a Confined Fluid
Hara, Fumio,Watanabe, Masahiro 대한기계학회 1996 International Sessions in Celebration of the 50th Vol.1 No.1
This paper first deals experimentally with the characteristics of the unstarble vibration induced in a. single rotating flexible disk confined in a water-filled narrow space and visualization of the unstable vibration mode shapes. The experiment is carried out to investigated the relationships among the disk's vibrational displacement magnitude, unstady fluid pressure acting on both sides of the disk and mode shapes. Secondarily we develop a theoretical vibration model of a rotating flexible disk coupled with a swirling fluid flow in water-filled narrow spare and evaluate the influence of important parameters on the instability characteristics of the disk vibrations. The theoretical results show a good agreement to the experiment with respect to the vibration mode shapes, dependence of the instarbility frequency on the rotating speed but a dual native agreement for the critical speed at which the dish's unstable vibration undertakes.

We conducted a genome-wide association study of type 2 diabetes (T2D) using 459,359 SNPs in a Japanese population with a three-stage study design (stage 1, 4,470 cases and 3,071 controls; stage 2, 2,886 cases and 3,087 controls; stage 3, 3,622 cases and 2,356 controls). We identified new associations in UBE2E2 on chromosome 3 and in C2CD4A-C2CD4B on chromosome 15 at genome-wide significant levels (rs7612463 in UBE2E2, combined P = 2.27 ? 10??9; rs7172432 in C2CD4A-C2CD4B, combined P = 3.66 ? 10??9). The association of these two loci with T2D was replicated in other east Asian populations. In the European populations, the C2CD4A-C2CD4B locus was significantly associated with T2D, and a combined analysis of all populations gave P = 8.78 ? 10??14, whereas the UBE2E2 locus did not show association to T2D. In conclusion, we identified two new loci at UBE2E2 and C2CD4A-C2CD4B associated with susceptibility to T2D.

Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) combines endoscopy and intraluminal ultrasonography, and allows imaging with a high-frequency transducer over a short distance to generate high-resolution ultrasonographic images. EUS is now a widely accepted modality for diagnosing pancreatobiliary diseases. EUS-guided fineneedle aspiration (EUS-FNA) using a curved linear- array echoendoscope was initially described more than 20 years ago, and since then many researchers have expanded its indications to sample diverse lesions and have also used it for various therapeutic purposes. EUS-guided biliary drainage (EUS-BD) is one of the therapeutic procedures that has been developed using a curved linear-array echoendoscope. Technically, EUS-BD includes rendezvous techniques via transesophageal, transgastric, and transduodenal routes, EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy (EUS-CDS), and EUS-guided hepaticogastrostomy (EUS-HGS). Published data have demonstrated a high success rate, albeit with a comparatively high rate of nonfatal complications for EUS-CDS and EUS-HGS, and a comparatively low success rate with a low complication rate for the rendezvous technique. At present, these procedures represent an alternative to surgery or percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) for patients with obstructive jaundice when endoscopic biliary drainage (EBD) has failed. However, these procedures should be performed in centers with extensive experience in linear EUS and therapeutic biliary ERCP. Large prospective studies are needed in the near future to establish standardized EUS-BD procedures as well as to perform controlled comparative trials between EUS-BD and PTBD, between rendezvous techniques and direct-access techniques (EUS-CDS and EUS-HGS), and between EBD and EUS-BD.
