      • Nationwide distribution of Kyo-yasai (heirloom vegetables in Kyoto) and the advantages of traditional farming methods with importance of ‘Syun’: a case of mizuna

        Nakamura Takako,Nakao Asuka,Watanabe Minami,Ueda Kinji,Matsuda Toshihiko,Matsumoto Seiji,Yamaguchi Toshiharu,Haikata Masaho,Kaneko Asuka,Shirota Koji,Sasaki Azusa,Okamoto Shigehisa,Nakamura Yasushi 한국식품연구원 2022 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.9 No.-

Introduction: This study aimed to review the farming activity and the administrative measure to successfully increase the distribution of heirloom vegetable “mizuna” nationwide by examining the paradigm shift in the use of its young less-branched form for salad. We also discussed that breeding programs of the young form ironically resulted in reduction the flavor and the antimutagenicity of this vegetable. Methods: Through hearing survey, we explored reasons for the successful nationwide distribution of heirloom vegetable, mizuna. Through chemical analysis, the fragrant ingredients in mizuna, their antimutagenicity and the changes in their amount for one year were determined. Results and discussion: The primary factor for commencing the distribution of mizuna includes the new idea of using young less-branched form of mizuna as salad ingredient, which has been recognized by most who were involved in promoting the distribution of mizuna among farmers, distributors, and employees of agricultural extension section at Kyoto Prefecture office. The secondary factor is the fact that the primary factor coincides on a time axis with other two factors: the occurrence of the boom of Kyoto’s heirloom vegetables and the Vegetable Management Stabilization Project found as a measure of Kyoto Prefecture. We determined three fragrant compounds in mizuna, 3-butenyl isothiocyanate, 3-phenylpropionitrile, and phenylethyl isothiocyanate, of which their antimutagenic effects were also identified. Those amounts were highest at the best harvest season called ‘Syun’ in the past because of the cold temperature of Japanese winter in traditional open-field cultivation. Conclusion: It implied that the successful nationwide distribution of mizuna resulted from the administrative measures based on the paradigm shift in the new use of mizuna for salad due to increase in demand of the vegetable in contemporary dishes. The traditional cultivation of mizuna might be suitable if wishing the flavor and antimutagenicity at the best harvest season ‘Syun’.

Protection of Kyo-yasai (heirloom vegetables in Kyoto) from extinction: a case of Sabaka-daikon (Japan's heirloom white radish, Raphanus sativus) in Maizuru, Japan

        Takako Nakamura,Yasushi Nakamura,Azusa Sasaki,Masami Fujii,Koji Shirota,Yutaka Mimura,Shigehisa Okamoto 한국식품연구원 2017 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.4 No.2

As a general background, Sabaka-daikon, one of the heirloom vegetables in Kyoto, ceased its commercial cultivation in the late 1960s at north Kyoto, leading to an extinction crisis. We review the activities of the local residents to revive the commercial cultivation of Sabaka-daikon from 2010. We also discuss the significance of the information on the health benefits of local foods in motivating local residents to protect local foods from extinction. For methodology, through field interviews of administrative members, venders, and farmers in Maizuru city, we explore reasons for the success in reviving a local heirloom vegetable, Sabaka-daikon. We also apply chemical analysis to determine individual differences in the anticarcinogenic (cancer preventive) compound, 4-methylthio-3-butenyl isothiocyanate, in Sabaka-daikon to guarantee its added health benefits. As a result, the primary factors for the revival of Sabaka-daikon in Maizuru city include the passion of farmers, measures undertaken by the local administration, and the marketing strategies of venders. The secondary factor is the fact that one primary factor (passion of farmers) coincides on a time axis with the other two factors (administrative measures and marketing strategies of venders). Wide individual differences in the anticarcinogenic compound, 4-methylthio-3-butenyl isothiocyanate, were observed, likely due to the variable genome of Sabaka-daikon. In conclusion, the results imply that the information on the health benefits of daikon contribute to motivating the local residents (i.e., passion of farmers) in protecting Sabaka-daikon from extinction. Revival of this heirloom vegetable would contribute to the diversification of local foods, and to the preservation of those foods and the cooking knowledge for future generations. As Sabaka-daikon variety has some races in variation of 4-methylthio-3-butenyl isothiocyanate production, a race with a fixed amount of 4-methylthio-3-butenyl isothiocyanate should be established to guarantee added health benefits of Sabaka-daikon.

      • Effect of compost application as cover material on rehabilitation of landfill mainly received incineration ash ~Relationship between easily degradable organic matter content and enrichment of bacteria

The recycling activity of wastes has been promoting recently in Japan, however the recycling rate of food wastes is 20.4% in 2012, which is lower than those of other wastes. This was attributed to the shortage of demands of recycling due to the unstable quality and supply of recycled product. To solve these problems, Tanimura et.al1) suggested the new back-up method that the composts made from food waste were used as the cover soil in landfill, to promote the stabilization of incineration ashes by microbial activities1), 2). In this study, the effect of the easily degradable organic matter (EDOM) content in composts for the stabilization of incineration ashes was compared by using test columns simulated landfill within the different composts of the EDOM content. This was due to the incineration ashes contained little nutrient for the growth of microorganisms as well as microorganisms. The results suggested that the compost containing rich EDOM content was more effective on the neutralization and enrichment of microorganisms which were part of the promotion processes for rehabilitation of landfill with incineration ashes mainly.

        Masayuki Nakamura,Masayuki Tsuda,Kazue Takahashi,Jiro Nakamura 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8

This article presents a hybrid system of wireless sensor networks and active tags in order to monitor user"sbehaviors of handling objects. The sensor networks consist of an acceleration sensor node that the user carries and occupancy sensor nodes that are deployed in a workplace. The active tags, which are embedded with switch sensors, vibration sensors and occupancy sensors, are attached to objects. The sensor networks capture the user"s movements andthe active tags detect the objects" movements. The sensor nodes have the parent selection function that can allocate resources to the nodes. We demonstrate monitoring the user"s behaviors of handling the objects using the hybrid system. We also show that the proposed system provides the useful information for behavior classification.

Limited Effect of Rebamipide in Addition to Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) in the Treatment of Post-Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection Gastric Ulcers: A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing PPI Plus Rebamipide Combination Therapy with PPI Monotherapy

( Kazuhiko Nakamura ),( Eikichi Ihara ),( Hirotada Akiho ),( Kazuya Akahoshi ),( Naohiko Harada ),( Toshiaki Ochiai ),( Norimoto Nakamura ),( Haruei Ogino ),( Tsutomu Iwasa ),( Akira Aso ),( Yoichiro 대한소화기학회 2016 Gut and Liver Vol.10 No.6

Background/Aims: The ability of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) to resect large early gastric cancers (EGCs) results in the need to treat large artificial gastric ulcers. This study assessed whether the combination therapy of rebamipide plus a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) offered benefits over PPI monotherapy. Methods: In this prospective, randomized, multicenter, open-label, and comparative study, patients who had undergone ESD for EGC or gastric adenoma were randomized into groups receiving either rabeprazole monotherapy (10 mg/day, n=64) or a combination of rabeprazole plus rebamipide (300 mg/day, n=66). The Scar stage (S stage) ratio after treatment was compared, and factors independently associated with ulcer healing were identified by using multivariate analyses. Results: The S stage rates at 4 and 8 weeks were similar in the two groups, even in the subgroups of patients with large amounts of tissue resected and regardless of CYP2C19 genotype. Independent factors for ulcer healing were circumferential location of the tumor and resected tissue size; the type of treatment did not affect ulcer healing. Conclusions: Combination therapy with rebamipide and PPI had limited benefits compared with PPI monotherapy in the treatment of post-ESD gastric ulcer (UMIN Clinical Trials Registry, UMIN000007435). Characteristics of Contrast between the Stressed and the Unstressed in Rhythm Units Observed in Duration Structure in English Speech by Japanese Learners

        ( Shizuka Nakamura ) 범태평양응용언어학회 2011 범태평양응용언어학회지 Vol.15 No.1

English rhythm is related to contrast between the stressed and the unstressed in duration structure. In native English speech, in general, an intra-speaker average duration of stressed syllable is longer than that of syllable as a whole. On the contrary, that of unstressed syllable is shorter than that of syllable as a whole. In the previous paper by the present author, it was reported that stressed syllable durations of speech of learners tend not to be lengthened enough, and an unstressed ones tend not to be shortened enough as compared with that of native speakers (Nakamura, 2010). For these reason, learner speech does not have such a high ratio of intra-speaker average durations of stressed to unstressed syllables as native speech. Since this lower ratio affected subjective evaluation, a correlation coefficient between the ratios and subjective evaluation scores given by English language teachers was observed to be 0.48. In this paper, an indicator, which demonstrates more adequately a duration contrast between the stressed and the unstressed, was investigated, for the purpose of increasing the correlation with subjective evaluation. A rhythm unit was defined here as a stressed syllable connected to the preceding and succeeding unstressed syllables. Then, a value based on a ratio of stressed to unstressed syllable durations in the rhythm unit was treated as an indicator to represent learner characteristics. As a result, a correlation coefficient of the indicators with subjective evaluation scores was increased to 0.65. A substantial part of mechanism in subjective evaluation of rhythm in English speech was revealed and became possible to simulate reasonably by objective evaluation.

      • Numerical study of controlling crack propagation of field-scale concrete block for partial cutting using utilizing charge holder by means of blast

        ( H. M. Kim ),( S. H. Cho ),( D. Fukuda ),( K. Kaneko ),( Y. Nakamura ),( H. S. Kim ),( J. H. Lee ) 대한지질공학회 2016 대한지질공학회 학술발표회논문집 Vol.2016 No.1

Breakage of concrete structures involves a risk the occupational health of those involved in the operation and other general public living in the vicinity due to the noise hazard. It is important to prevent damage from mechanical breakage method to remaining concrete structures, while obtaining efficient resultant fracture are of considerable importance for partially dismantling concrete structures, Therefore, alternative method has been needed to solve these problem. Nakamura et al. (2004) suggested a dynamic breakage system installed utilizing wedged charge holder before curing time of concrete specimen to remove the partial concrete block in short time. Nakamura et al. (2010) was performed to investigate the effect of the charge holder on the fracture plane formation in field-scale blast experiment. This study proposes a numerical method to simulate crack propagation in the field-scale concrete block by means of blasting method. The result shown that the smooth blasting was obtained along the optimal fracture plane was shown in remaining part of concrete specimen. As the field-scale experimental result, the dynamic fracture process analysis(DFPA) (Cho, 2003) assuming the same experimental arrangement was conducted and the fracture mechanism was investigated. Figure 1 shows the finite element layout for the analysis model which has all free face and 2 charge holders installed. the model was divided into triangular elements. The analysis model applied calculation conditions in Table 1.
