Flexural Behaviour of Reinforced Lightweight Foamed Mortar Beams and Slabs

This paper presents the experimental results on flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete beams and slabs made of lightweightfoamed mortar with density ranged from 1700 to 1800 kg/m3. Beam specimens consist of seven lightweight foamed mortar beamsand three normal weight concrete beams acted as the control sample. Whereas, slab specimens contain two lightweight foamedmortar slabs and two normal weight concrete slabs. Four types of lightweight foamed mortar with different cement-sand ratios andwater-cement ratios designated as LW-1, LW-2, LW-3 and LW-4 were produced in order to achieve targeted compressive strength of20 MPa at 28 days for structural usage. The results showed that reinforced lightweight foamed mortar beams sustained about 8% to34% lower ultimate load as compared to normal weight reinforced concrete with same reinforcement configuration. However,lightweight foamed mortar slab sustained higher ultimate load, averagely 18% as compared to normal weight slab. Apart from that, itwas observed that the both reinforced lightweight foamed mortar beams and slabs were weak in resisting shear forces nonethelessflexural failure cannot be ignored entirely due to the presence of excessive yielding of the steel strain data.
The Motivation of Female Social Entrepreneurs in Lundu District, Sarawak, Malaysia

Social entrepreneurship is a type of entrepreneurship that pursues opportunities to solve social, economic, and environmental issues. As a pioneering study exploring McClelland's theory of needs in the context of social entrepreneurship, this study investigated the factors that influence the motivation of female social entrepreneurs in Lundu District of Sarawak, Malaysia. This study was carried out with 150 respondents using a census method, and the results showed that female social entrepreneurs were most motivated to engage as social entrepreneurs by the need for affiliation, followed by the need for achievement and the need for power. The multiple linear regression results indicated that attendance at courses and training was the most influential factor that positively influenced all three motivational dimensions. Accordingly, policymakers should incorporate human resource managers and other training providers to tailor suitable courses and training for communities. In contrast, ethnic community leaders should strengthen community bonding through various programs to enhance all three needs among the local communities, especially the need for affiliation, to encourage them to engage in social entrepreneurship. Theoretically, this study makes McClelland’s theory of needs more robust by applying it to the social entrepreneurship phenomenon and expands the literature on social entrepreneurship in the context of developing countries.

Background: Calibration is a critical component for the reliability, accuracy, and precision of mass spectrometry measurements. Optimal practice in the construction, evaluation, and implementation of a new calibration curve is often underappreciated. This systematic review examined how calibration practices are applied to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry measurement procedures. Methods: The electronic database PubMed was searched from the date of database inception to April 1, 2022. The search terms used were “calibration,” “mass spectrometry,” and “regression.” Twenty-one articles were identified and included in this review, following evaluation of the titles, abstracts, full text, and reference lists of the search results. Results: The use of matrix-matched calibrators and stable isotope-labeled internal standards helps to mitigate the impact of matrix effects. A higher number of calibration standards or replicate measurements improves the mapping of the detector response and hence the accuracy and precision of the regression model. Constructing a calibration curve with each analytical batch recharacterizes the instrument detector but does not reduce the actual variability. The analytical response and measurand concentrations should be considered when constructing a calibration curve, along with subsequent use of quality controls to confirm assay performance. It is important to assess the linearity of the calibration curve by using actual experimental data and appropriate statistics. The heteroscedasticity of the calibration data should be investigated, and appropriate weighting should be applied during regression modeling. Conclusions: This review provides an outline and guidance for optimal calibration practices in clinical mass spectrometry laboratories.

Human infection with simian malaria Plasmodium knowlesi is a cause for concern in Southeast Asian countries, especially in Malaysia. A previous study on Peninsular Malaysia P. knowlesi rhoptry associated protein-1 (PkRAP1) gene has discovered the existence of dimorphism. In this study, genetic analysis of PkRAP1 in a larger number of P. knowlesi samples from Malaysian Borneo was conducted. The PkRAP1 of these P. knowlesi isolates was PCR-amplified and sequenced. The newly obtained PkRAP1 gene sequences (n=34) were combined with those from the previous study (n=26) and analysed for polymorphism and natural selection. Sequence analysis revealed a higher genetic diversity of PkRAP1 compared to the previous study. Exon II of the gene had higher diversity (π=0.0172) than exon I (π=0.0128). The diversity of the total coding region (π=0.0167) was much higher than those of RAP1 orthologues such as PfRAP-1 (π=0.0041) and PvRAP1 (π=0.00088). Z-test results indicated that the gene was under purifying selection. Phylogenetic tree and haplotype network showed distinct clustering of Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo PkRAP1 haplotypes. This geographical-based clustering of PkRAP1 haplotypes provides further evidence of the dimorphism of the gene and possible existence of 2 distinct P. knowlesi lineages in Malaysia.
Autonomous Robot Driving Decision Strategy Following Road Signs And Traffic Rules

Autonomous robot driving decision strategy following road signs and traffic rules is described using simulation with a Turtlebot [1]. A fully autonomous robot driving strategy is presented, which follows human level logic in decision making. A vision-based autonomous vehicles navigation system for road vehicles includes three main parts: 1) road and traffic signs detection; 2) vehicle movement guidance system; and 3) decision making following human level logic. The first two modules have been studied independently for many years and obtained many good results using different solutions, but there is little research in fully integrated system with high level decision making to achieve fully autonomous robot navigation following road signs. It is valuable to study and apply this concept into a real system. A simulation world is built according to real environment scenario proving the concept of study.

Based on flow curve of graphene oxide coated polymeric microsphere based electrorheological (ER) fluid,model independent yield stress and shear rate, g˙ ðtÞ, were determined using a Tikhonov regularizationtechnique developed to solve the inverse problem of the shear rate in Couette flow viscometry. Themodel independent yield stress data were compared with that extracted from yield stress fluidmodels ofBingham plastic and Cho-Choi-Jhon (CCJ) used to fit the g˙ ðtÞ data. The agreement between modelindependent and Bingham yield stress was excellent, while the CCJ model yield stresses are generallyslightly higher.
