Numerical study on conjugate heat transfer in a liquid-metal-cooled pipe based on a four-equation turbulent heat transfer model

        Li Xian-Wen,Su Xing-Kang,Gu Long,Wang Xiang-Yang,Fan Da-Jun 한국원자력학회 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.5

Conjugate heat transfer between liquid metal and solid is a common phenomenon in a liquid-metalcooled fast reactor's fuel assembly and heat exchanger, dramatically affecting the reactor’s safety and economy. Therefore, comprehensively studying the sophisticated conjugate heat transfer in a liquidmetal-cooled fast reactor is profound. However, it has been evidenced that the traditional Simple Gradient Diffusion Hypothesis (SGDH), assuming a constant turbulent Prandtl number (Prt, usually 0.85 - 1.0), is inappropriate in the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of liquid metal. In recent decades, numerous studies have been performed on the four-equation model, which is expected to improve the precision of liquid metal’s CFD simulations but has not been introduced into the conjugate heat transfer calculation between liquid metal and solid. Consequently, a four-equation model, consisting of the Abe k ε turbulence model and the Manservisi kq εq heat transfer model, is applied to study the conjugate heat transfer concerning liquid metal in the present work. To verify the numerical validity of the four-equation model used in the conjugate heat transfer simulations, we reproduce Johnson’s experiments of the liquid lead-bismuth-cooled turbulent pipe flow using the four-equation model and the traditional SGDH model. The simulation results obtained with different models are compared with the available experimental data, revealing that the relative errors of the local Nusselt number and mean heat transfer coefficient obtained with the four-equation model are considerably reduced compared with the SGDH model. Then, the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of liquid metal turbulent pipe flow obtained with the four-equation model are analyzed. Moreover, the impact of the turbulence model used in the four-equation model on overall simulation performance is investigated. At last, the effectiveness of the four-equation model in the CFD simulations of liquid sodium conjugate heat transfer is assessed. This paper mainly proves that it is feasible to use the four-equation model in the study of liquid metal conjugate heat transfer and provides a reference for the research of conjugate heat transfer in a liquidmetal-cooled fast reactor

Rhodococcus soli sp. nov., an actinobacterium isolated from soil using a resuscitative technique.

        Li, Shan-Hui,Yu, Xiao-Yun,Park, Dong-Jin,Hozzein, Wael N,Kim, Chang-Jin,Shu, Wen-Sheng,Wadaan, Mohammed A M,Ding, Lin-Xian,Li, Wen-Jun N.V. Swets en Zeitlinger 2015 Antonie van Leeuwenhoek Vol.107 No.2

A Gram-positive, aerobic, non-motile, non-spore forming strain, designated DSD51W(T), was isolated using a resuscitative technique from a soil sample collected from Kyoto park, Japan, and characterized by using a polyphasic approach. The morphological and chemotaxonomic properties of the isolate were typical of those of members of the genus Rhodococcus. Strain DSD51W(T) was found to form a coherent cluster with Rhodococcus hoagii ATCC 7005(T), Rhodococcus equi NBRC 101255(T), Rhodococcus defluvii Call(T) and Rhodococcus kunmingensis YIM 45607(T) as its closest phylogenetic neighbours in 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. However, the DNA-DNA hybridization values with the above strains were 58.2 ± 2.2, 58.4 ± 1.9, 45.1 ± 1.4 and 40.3 ± 4.7 %, respectively. In combination with differences in physiological and biochemical properties, strain DSD51W(T) can be concluded to represent a novel species of the genus Rhodococcus, for which the name Rhodococcus soli sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain DSD51W(T) (=KCTC 29259(T) = JCM 19627(T) = DSM 46662(T) = KACC 17838(T)).

Liposomal honokiol, a potent anti-angiogenesis agent, in combination with radiotherapy produces a synergistic antitumor efficacy without increasing toxicity

        Jia Hu,Li Liu,Xiang Chen,Ping Chen,Guang-li Yang,Wen-li Hou,Ming-hai Tang,Fan Zhang,Xian-huo Wang,Xia Zhao,Yu-quan Wei,Li-juan Chen 생화학분자생물학회 2008 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.40 No.6

Honokiol is an active compound purified from magnolia that has been shown to induce cell differentiation, apoptosis, and anti-angiogenesis effects, as well as an enhancement in tumor growth delay in combination with chemotherapeutic agents in several mouse xenograft models. Our goal was to investigate the radiosensitization effect of honokiol on lung carcinoma. The radiosensitization effect of liposomal honokiol in Lewis lung carcinoma cells (LL/2) was analyzed using an in vitro clonogenic survival assay. For an in vivo study, Lewis lung carcinoma-bearing C57BL/6 mice were treated with either liposomal honokiol at 25 mg/kg or 5 Gy of single tumor radiation, or a combination of both over 12 days of treatment. The tumor growth delay and the survival time were evaluated. In addition, histological analysis of tumor sections was performed to examine changes by detecting the microvessel density and apoptosis in tumor tissues. In the clonogenic survival assay, LL/2 cells treated with IC50 Lipo-HNK for 24 h showed a radiation enhancement ratio of 1.9. After 12 days of combination treatment, the tumor volume decreased 78% and produced an anti-tumor activity 1.3-fold greater than a predicted additive effect of honokiol and radiation alone. This combination treatment also caused an 8.7 day delay in tumor growth. The cell cycle distribution and histological analysis demonstrated that liposomal honokiol has an anti-tumor effect via inducing apoptosis and inhibiting angiogenesis. Liposomal honokiol can enhance tumor cell radiosensitivity in vitro and in vivo, indicating that radiotherapy combined with liposomal honokiol can lead to greater anti-tumor efficacy. • Tumor Markers for Diagnosis, Monitoring of Recurrence and Prognosis in Patients with Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer

        Jing, Jie-Xian,Wang, Yan,Xu, Xiao-Qin,Sun, Ting,Tian, Bao-Guo,Du, Li-Li,Zhao, Xian-Wen,Han, Cun-Zhi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

To evaluate the value of combined detection of serum CEA, CA19-9, CA24-2, AFP, CA72-4, SCC, TPA and TPS for the clinical diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal tract (GIT) cancer and to analyze the efficacy of these tumor markers (TMs) in evaluating curative effects and prognosis. A total of 573 patients with upper GIT cancer between January 2004 and December 2007 were enrolled in this study. Serum levels of CEA, CA19-9, CA24-2, AFP, CA72-4, SCC, TPA and TPS were examined preoperatively and every 3 months postoperatively by ELISA. The sensitivity of CEA, CA19-9, CA24-2, AFP, CA72-4, SCC, TPA and TPS were 26.8%, 36.2%, 42.9%, 2.84%, 25.4%, 34.6%, 34.2% and 30.9%, respectively. The combined detection of CEA+CA199+CA242+CA724 had higher sensitivity and specificity in gastric cancer (GC) and cardiac cancer, while CEA+CA199+CA242+SCC was the best combination of diagnosis for esophageal cancer (EC). Elevation of preoperative CEA, CA19-9 and CA24-2, SCC and CA72-4 was significantly associated with pathological types (p<0.05) and TNM staging (p<0.05). Correlation analysis showed that CA24-2 was significantly correlated with CA19-9 (r=0.810, p<0.001). The levels of CEA, CA19-9, CA24-2, CA72-4 and SCC decreased obviously 3 months after operations. When metastasis and recurrence occurred, the levels of TMs significantly increased. On multivariate analysis, high preoperative CA72-4, CA24-2 and SCC served as prognostic factors for cardiac carcinoma, GC and EC, respectively. combined detection of CEA+CA199+CA242+SCC proved to be the most economic and practical strategy in diagnosis of EC; CEA+CA199+CA242+CA724 proved to be a better evaluation indicator for cardiac cancer and GC. CEA and CA19-9, CA24-2, CA72-4 and SCC, examined postoperatively during follow-up, were useful to find early tumor recurrence and metastasis, and evaluate prognosis. AFP, TPA and TPS have no significant value in diagnosis of patients with upper GIT cancer.

      • Roles of Fibroblast Growth Factor-inducible 14 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Li, Nan,Hu, Wen-Jun,Shi, Jie,Xue, Jie,Guo, Wei-Xing,Zhang, Yang,Guan, Dong-Xian,Liu, Shu-Peng,Cheng, Yu-Qiang,Wu, Meng-Chao,Xie, Dong,Liu, Shan-Rong,Cheng, Shu-Qun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.6

The prognostic value of the fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14 (Fn14) expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is unknown. Real-time PCR (RT-PCR), western blot assays and immunohistochemistry analysis were here performed in order to compare Fn14 expressios in paired liver samples of HCC and normal liver tissue. Most of the tumor tissues expressed significantly higher levels of Fn14 compared to adjacent non-tumor tissues, with Fn14High accounting for 54.6% (142/260) of all patients. The Pearson ${\chi}^2$ test indicated that Fn14 expression was closely associated with serum alpha fetal protein (AFP) (P=0.002) and tumor number (p=0.019). Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that along with tumor diameter and portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT ) type, Fn14 was an independent prognostic factor for both overall survival (OS) (HR=1.398, p=0.008) and recurrence (HR=1.541, p=0.001) rates. Fn14 overexpression HCC correlated with poor surgical outcome, and this molecule may be a candidate biomarker for prognosis as well as a target for therapy.

Risk Factors for the Rupture of Bifurcation Intracranial Aneurysms Using CT Angiography

        Li Wen,Guang-xian Wang,Dong Zhang,Zhi-ping Wang,Liu-qing Yang,Lei Zhang 연세대학교의과대학 2016 Yonsei medical journal Vol.57 No.5

Purpose: To investigate the clinical and morphological characteristics in relation to risk of bifurcation intracranial aneurysm rupture. Materials and Methods: Data from 202 consecutive patients with 219 bifurcation aneurysms (129 ruptured and 90 unruptured) managed at the authors’ facility between August 2011 and July 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. Based on their clinical records and CT angiographic findings, the ability of risk factors to predict aneurysm rupture was assessed using statistical methods. Results: Age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cerebral atherosclerosis were negatively correlated with aneurysm rupture. Aneurysms located in the middle cerebral artery, daughter artery ratio, lateral angle ratio (LA ratio), and neck width were negativelycorrelated with rupture. Aneurysms located in the anterior communicating artery, irregularity, with daughter sac, depth, width, maximum size, aspect ratio (AR), depth-to-width ratio, and bottleneck factor were significantly and positively correlated with rupture. Binary logistic regression model revealed that irregular shape [odds ratio (OR) 6.598] and AR (OR 3.507) strongly increasedthe risk of bifurcation aneurysm rupture, while age (OR 0.434), cerebral atherosclerosis (OR 0.125), neck width (OR 0.771), and LA ratio (OR 0.267) were negatively correlated with rupture (p<0.05). Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealedthe threshold values of AR and LA ratio to be 1.18 and 1.50, respectively. Conclusion: Age (≥60 yr), cerebral atherosclerosis, and aneurysms with a larger neck width and larger LA ratio are protective factorsagainst bifurcation aneurysm rupture. An aneurysm with an irregular shape and an increased AR reflect the greater likelihoodof a rupture.
