Risk Factors of Colorectal Stricture Associated with Developing High-Grade Dysplasia or Cancer in Ulcerative Colitis: A Multicenter Long-term Follow-up Study

        Weimin Xu,Wenjun Ding,Yubei Gu,Long Cui,Jie Zhong,Peng Du 거트앤리버 소화기연관학회협의회 2020 Gut and Liver Vol.14 No.5

Background/Aims: The risk factors of colorectal stricture associated with ulcerative colitis (UC) carcinogenesis in the long-term disease duration remain unclear. Methods: This study included all UC patients registered from a prospectively maintained database between June 1986 to July 2018. The demographic data, clinical features, and outcomes in patients with dysplasia and stricture were assessed using univariable analysis and multivariate logistic regression models. Results: A total of 246 eligible patients were included in the analysis. The median follow-up time was 13.0 years (interquartile range [IQR], 9.0 to 16.0). There were 35 cases (14.2%) of colorectal stricture. Patients with stricture had worse clinical outcomes. Stricture formation (odds ratio [OR], 9.350; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.842 to 30.762), inflammatory polyps (OR, 5.464; 95% CI, 1.692 to 17.638), disease duration of more than 10 years (OR, 3.223; 95% CI, 1.040 to 9.985), and age >40 years at diagnosis (OR, 8.499; 95% CI, 1.903 to 37.956) were significantly associated with high-grade dysplasia or colorectal cancer. In addition, disease duration of more than 5 years (OR, 3.211; 95% CI, 1.168 to 8.881), moderated anemia (OR, 3.373; 95% CI, 1.472 to 7.731), and primary sclerosing cholangitis (OR, 5,842; 95% CI, 1.395 to 24.468) were contributing factors for the development of colorectal stricture. Conclusions: Colorectal stricture had the highest risk for malignant transformation. Earlier initiation of colonoscopic surveillance in UC patients with risk factors for stricture should be considered to prevent stricture formation and further malignant transformation.

Temporal expression profiling of long noncoding RNA and mRNA in the peripheral blood during porcine development

        Gu, Yiren,Zhou, Rui,Jin, Long,Tao, Xuan,Zhong, Zhijun,Yang, Xuemei,Liang, Yan,Yang, Yuekui,Wang, Yan,Chen, Xiaohui,Gong, Jianjun,He, Zhiping,Li, Mingzhou,Lv, Xuebin Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.5

Objective: We investigated the temporal expression profiles of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) and mRNA in the peripheral blood of pigs during development and identified the lncRNAs that are related to the blood-based immune system. Methods: Peripheral blood samples were obtained from the pigs at 0, 7, 28, and 180 days and 2 years of age. RNA sequencing was performed to survey the lncRNA and mRNA transcriptomes in the samples. Short time-series expression miner (STEM) was used to show temporal expression patterns in the mRNAs and lncRNAs. Gene ontology and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes analyses were performed to assess the genes' biological relevance. To predict the functions of the identified lncRNAs, we extracted mRNAs that were nearby loci and highly correlated with the lncRNAs. Results: In total of 5,946 lncRNA and 12,354 mRNA transcripts were identified among the samples. STEM showed that most lncRNAs and mRNAs had similar temporal expression patterns during development, indicating the expressional correlation and functional relatedness between them. The five stages were divided into two classes: the suckling period and the late developmental stage. Most genes were expressed at low level during the suckling period, but at higher level during the late stages. Expression of several T-cell-related genes increased continuously during the suckling period, indicating that these genes are crucial for establishing the adaptive immune system in piglets at this stage. Notably, lncRNA TCONS-00086451 may promote blood-based immune system development by upregulating nuclear factor of activated T-cells cytoplasmic 2 expression. Conclusion: This study provides a catalog of porcine peripheral blood-related lncRNAs and mRNAs and reveals the characteristics and temporal expression profiles of these lncRNAs and mRNAs during peripheral blood development from the newborn to adult stages in pigs.

        Long Yu,Dan Liu,Peng Gu,Kunlin Chen,Hua Qiu 한국섬유공학회 2023 Fibers and polymers Vol.24 No.11

With the global prevalence of infectious diseases, the development of antimicrobial textiles has become imperative. In this study, a synergistic antibacterial powder of IZnO–SCSB was obtained by modifying zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles with 3-isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane (IPTS) and chitosan cinnamaldehyde Schiff base (SCSB). The powder was then mixed with a PET solution and a PET/IZnO–SCSB composite antibacterial fiber membrane was prepared using electrospinning. This composite fiber membrane demonstrates excellent mechanical properties, breathability, hydrophobicity, and antibacterial effects. The tensile strength and elongation at break were 2.4 MPa and 240.9%, respectively. When the membrane was loaded with 3 wt% of IZnO–SCSB, the antimicrobial rates against Gram-positive (S. aureus) and Gram-negative (E. coli) reached 99.80% and 97.08%, respectively. Therefore, this composite antibacterial fiber membrane has broad application prospects in antibacterial textiles such as masks and medical gauze.

왕용 ( Long Wang ),홍성구 ( Seong Gu Hong ) 한국농공학회 2013 한국농공학회 학술대회초록집 Vol.2013 No.-

Biomass is a form of energy that has been increased substantially in the last decade. Gasification is a technology that converts solid biomass to fuel gas. It is a simple and economic process to generate power in rural areas. Gasification always use woodchip because it is a form of biomass which is produced from tree branches as well as agricultural residues. The pressure drop occurred in the downdraft gasifier. It is necessary to study the effect of woodchip particle size on pressure drop in the case of modeling gasification and gasifier structure design. The objective of this paper is to determine the effect of chip size distribution on air flow and woodchip height through fixed bed of wood chips. The woodchip was uesd 0.7~0.9mm and 20~3mm size. Air pressure drop experiments were conducted in a 2.5 meter high vertical transparent acrylic pipe. The result was presented that pressure drop increase with bed height and flow rate. Pressure drop occurred high when use 0.7~0.9mm size than 20~3mm size woodchip. Porosity is the major parameters on pressure drop.

왕용 ( Long Wang ),홍성구 ( Seong Gu Hong ) 한국농공학회 2013 한국농공학회 학술대회초록집 Vol.2013 No.-

Biomass is a promising renewable energy resource. It can be converted into fuels, heat or power through thermo chemical processes. Gasification is a popular technology convert biomass into synthesis gas which composited of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and methane. Syngas can directly used as fuel or materials to produce chemicals or power generation to meet the need of ever-increasing energy in the world and reduce CO2 emission. The composition of syngas usually depend on feedstock conditions. In this study RDF, woodchip and charcoal was used as feedstock in downdraft gasification process. RDF and charcoal mixed with woodchip as some certain proportions. woodchip used as two different sizes- 0.7~0.9 cm size and 2~3 cm size. The results presented that methane composition was as high as 10% and LHV as high as 1600kacl/Nm3 when use RDF mixed with woodchip as feedstock. LHV was low as 683kcal/Nm3 use charcoal. The H2 composition usually more than 10% and LHV usually keep in 1100~1200kacl/Nm3 when use woodchip as feedstock. The cold gas efficiency reach to 65% when use 0.7~0.9 cm size woodchip. It is presented that small size woodchip is a good feedstock for downdraft gasification as lower reaction temperature, higher cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion.

왕용 ( Long Wang ),홍성구 ( Seong Gu Hong ),조태성 ( Tae Sung Cho ),김덕형 ( Duk Hyung Kim ) 한국농공학회 2012 한국농공학회 학술대회초록집 Vol.2012 No.-

Gasification is a technology that converts solid biomass to fuel gas. It is a simple and economic process to generate power in rural areas. Gasification not only transfer lignin biomass to syngas but also makes waste plastic to syngas. Solid waste such as plastic waste is difficult to break down but gasification is a good way to deal with these materials. RDF (refuse-derived fuel) is made from solid waste. The advantages for co-gasification of RDF and biomass is waste disposal with plastic and produce high LHV syngas through the gasification. In this work RDF and woodchip mixture gasification was conducted through a downdraft gasifier system. The influence of the reaction parameters, such as reactor temperature, feed size, gas flow rate and syngas composition were investigated. The highest calorific value syngas was obtained with 1547.8kcal/Nm3 when RDF ratio was 20%. The methane ration of syngas composition reached 12.4%. It was found that calorific value of syngas was promoted because methane production was obviously improved compared to woodchip gasification. Co-gasification with RDF seems promised to decreased syngas production cost and converse solid waste to energy resource.

왕용 ( Wang Long ),홍성구 ( Hong Seong Gu ) 한국농공학회 2014 한국농공학회 학술대회초록집 Vol.2014 No.-

Biomass is a promising renewable energy resource. It can be converted into fuels, heat or power through thermo chemical processes. Gasification is a popular technology convert biomass into syngas which composited of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and methane. Syngas can directly use as fuel or materials to produce chemicals or power generation to meet the need of ever-increasing energy in the world and reduce CO2 emission. Nowadays, woods are a main resource for biomass gasification feedstock of downdraft gasifier. Most of the biomass such as woodchip usually need to dry before gasification because of high moisture leads to low temperature of combustion zone and “bridging” in the gasification process. But the drying of biomass needs amount of heating energy. The solution to wet biomass gasification is supplying Oxygen to gasifier or mix high calorific materials with feedstock. However, supply Oxygen is not economic than air gasification. In this study charcoal was mixted with wet woodchip in different ratios to downdraft gasification. It was found that the CO composition and the calorific value of syngas was increased with charcoal ratio. The CO2 and CH4 composition was decreased in the same time. Wet woodchip was gasificated with charcoal addition. Mix high calorific materials with biomass is an economic and simple way to achieve the gasification of the wet biomass directly and it can save the energy that spend in biomass drying process.

      • Polymer Self-Assembly into Unique Fractal Nanostructures in Solution by a One-Shot Synthetic Procedure

        Shin, Suyong,Gu, Ming-Long,Yu, Chin-Yang,Jeon, Jongseol,Lee, Eunji,Choi, Tae-Lim American Chemical Society 2018 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.140 No.1

<P>A fractal nanostructure having a high surface area is potentially useful in sensors, catalysts, functional coatings, and biomedical and electronic applications. Preparation of fractal nanostructures on solid substrates has been reported using various inorganic or organic compounds. However, achieving such a process using polymers in solution has been extremely challenging. Here, we report a simple one-shot preparation of polymer fractal nanostructures in solution via an unprecedented assembly mechanism controlled by polymerization and self-assembly kinetics. This was possible only because one monomer was significantly more reactive than the other, thereby easily forming a diblock copolymer microstructure. Then, the second insoluble block containing poly(<I>p</I>-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) without any side chains spontaneously underwent self-assembly during polymerization by an in situ nanoparticlization of conjugated polymers (INCP) method. The formation of fractal structures in solution was confirmed by various imaging techniques such as atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and cryogenic TEM. The diffusion-limited aggregation theory was adopted to explain the branching patterns of the fractal nanostructures according to the changes in polymerization conditions such as the monomer concentration and the presence of additives. Finally, after detailed kinetic analyses, we proposed a plausible mechanism for the formation of unique fractal nanostructures, where the gradual formation and continuous growth of micelles in a chain-growth-like manner were accounted for.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
