Abstract

The optimization of a mixed refrigerant liquefaction process is a challenge because of its non-linear characteristics with stringent multiple process constraints. This study proposes a novel hybrid approach for the optimization of a newly developed, modified single mixed refrigerant process of natural gas liquefaction targeted for offshore applications. This contribution focuses on interpreting the geometric pattern of a plot of the temperature difference between the hot and cold composite curves in a cryogenic heat exchanger to understand the profound effects of the flow rates of the individual refrigerant components and the operating pressure on the liquefaction efficiency. From this, an effective method to generate a proper initial approach temperature profile was developed to ensure robust convergence of the main optimization step. An enhanced coordinate descent methodology was implemented in the main optimization procedure to accelerate the optimization of the modified single mixed refrigerant liquefaction process. The proposed knowledge-inspired hybrid optimization approach showed a robust convergence on determining the optimal design condition. The total energy requirement for natural gas liquefaction cycle was reduced by 21.9% compared to the base case. The proposed methodology can be extended directly to solve optimization problems for other mixed refrigerant based natural gas liquefaction processes.

Highlights

Analysis of the TDCC plot of the MSMR process.

Effects of decision variables on the performance of NG liquefaction.

An enhanced coordinate descent methodology to accelerate the optimization.

A good initial point and search sequence to ensure robust convergence.

The compression energy for NG liquefaction was reduced significantly.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Abstract

A dividing-wall prefractionator configuration was investigated for a safe and economic retrofit of the conventional sequence using simple distillation columns. In the proposed retrofit configuration, the first column was modified to a dividing wall column as a prefractionator to supply prefractionated multi-feeds to the subsequent column. To investigate the effectiveness of the proposed configuration, nine near-ideal feed mixtures were considered for analysis. The proposed configuration was then compared with several other alternative configurations. The proposed dividing-wall prefractionator efficiently generates prefractionated multi-feed streams avoiding feed mismatch and remixing effect with low modification cost. Moreover, because the proposed retrofit configuration allows for flexible switching between the dividing-wall prefractionator and the conventional operating mode, a safe retrofit is also ensured by reducing the operational risks. Several industrial retrofit cases were studied to validate the proposed dividing-wall prefractionator configuration.

Highlights

A dividing wall prefractionator configuration (DWPC) was studied for safe and cost-effective retrofit.

A combined optimization method was proposed and applied for reliable design and fair comparison.

Practical guideline was developed for the potential retrofit of DWPC.

The performance of proposed DWPC was illustrated through several industrial cases.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

The study aims to identify Service Quality factors that affect purchase decision on Click and Collect service through the mediating variable of customer emotions at Mobile World stores in Ho Chi Minh City. This study employs a mixed methods research design. Data were collected through online self-completion questionnaire distributed to 316 customers who used to experience Click and Collect service at the Mobile World stores in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The theoretical model was tested through two-stage regression analysis (PATH model). The findings show that factors of service quality such as Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, Empathy, Tangibility, and Emotions affect the decision to purchase online and receive products directly at Mobile World stores in Ho Chi Minh City. Responsiveness and Assurance have a significant positive impact on the customer's emotions. Consequently, these factors should be considered and addressed when conducting multi-channel services. Obviously, employees must first be trained to be able to deliver the promise of the retailer to their customers. Based on the results of the study, the authors provide managerial implications for retailers in Vietnam in the multi-channel retail environment to develop Click and Collect at retail stores across the country and the world.

3,3′-Diindolylmethane (DIM), a digestive metabolite originating from cruciferous vegetables, has dietary potential for the treatment of various human intestinal diseases. Although intestinal permeability dysfunction is closely related to the initiation and progression of human intestinal inflammatory diseases (IBDs), the effect of DIM on intestinal permeability is unclear. We evaluated the effect of DIM on the intestinal permeability of human intestinal cell monolayers and the animal model Caenorhabditis elegans, which were treated with IL-1β and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively, to mimic IBD conditions. DIM substantially restored the intestinal permeability of differentiated Caco-2 cells by enhancing the expression of tight junction proteins (including occludin and ZO-1). Compared to the IL-1β single treatment (551.0 ± 49.0 Ω·cm2), DIM (10 μM) significantly increased the transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) of Caco-2 cell monolayers (919.0 ± 66.4 Ω·cm2, p < 0.001). DIM also ameliorated the impaired intestinal permeability and extended the lifespan of C. elegans fed P. aeruginosa. The mean lifespan of DIM-treated worms (10.8 ± 1.3 days) was higher than that of control-treated worms (9.7 ± 1.1 days, p < 0.01). Thus, DIM is a potential nutraceutical candidate for the treatment of leaky gut syndrome by improving intestinal permeability.
[FIG OMISSION]

In this work, we report novel enantiopure mononuclear complexes (teaH)[Ln((S,S)-dnsalcd)2] and (teaH)[Ln((R,R)-dnsalcd)2] (Ln = Eu3+ for 1 and 4, Tb3+ for 2 and 5, and Sm3+ for 3 and 6), where teaH = triethylammonium and (S,S/R,R)-H2dnsalcd = (S,S/R,R)-N,N’-bis(3,5-dinitrosalicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine. Their unique structural features have been studied by single crystal diffraction and chiral and magneticproperties have been investigated by circular dichroism and susceptibility, respectively. Notably, 1and 3 were found to be isomorphous and exhibited a single intramolecular p-p interaction between two(S,S)-dnsalcd2- ligands. In contrast, 2 and 5 were found to be isomorphous and displayed two intramolecularp-p interactions between two (S,S/R,R)-dnsalcd2- ligands. Interestingly, strong Eu3+/Sm3+-basedemissions in the solid and solution states were observed by efficient antenna effects due to the p-p interactionmodes of the coordinated ligands. Furthermore, density functional theory calculations indicatedthat 1 contained a single localized benzene group in the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO),whereas 2 exhibited full delocalization via p-p interactions in the HOMO.

Jejunal Dieulafoy lesion (DL) is an exceedingly rare, life-threatening cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. Due to its rarity, intermittent bleeding symptoms that often necessitate prompt clinical intervention, variability in detection and treatment methods, and the risk of rebleeding, this condition frequently presents a diagnostic and therapeutic conundrum. We report a case of severe, intermittent, recurrent hematochezia due to a jejunal DL that was difficult to localize. In this case, the metallic coils used as a radiopaque marker allowed surgeons to accurately identify the bleeding site during intraoperative enteroscopy and successfully manage the lesion with minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.
