Hyun Soo Kim, Jong Woon Cheon, Min Su Kim, Chang Kil Jung, Kyung Rok Kim, Jae Won Choi, Dong Woo Kang and Sun Young Kim1 Departments of Internal Medicine and Pathology1, DongKang Medical Center, Ulsan, Korea Actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative disease and caused by Actinomycosis species, principally Actinomyces israelii, which are part of the normal inhabitant on the mucous membrane of the oropharynx, gastrointestinal tract, and urogenital tract. It usually affects cervicofacial, thoracic and abdominal tissue. Cervicofacial type has the highest percentage of occurrence with 50%. Actinomycosis frequently occurs following dental extraction, jaw surgery, chronic infection or poor oral hygiene. It may also be considered as an opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients such as malignancy, human immunodeficiency virus infection, diabetes mellitus, steroid usage or alcoholism. But, actinomycosis rarely occurs in adults with normal immunity and rare in the esophagus. We report an unusual case of esophageal actinomycosis which was developed in a patient with normal immunity and improved by therapy with intravenous penicillin G followed oral amoxicillin, and we also reviewed the associated literature.

본 연구는 청각장애 학생 32명의 전정 기능과 균형 능력에 관해 알아보고자 하였다. 청력의 손실은 신체 발달 능력의 지연을 초래하는데 그 가운데 전정 기능과 균형 능력에 많은 영향을 미친다. 따라서 청각장애 학생의 전정 기능과 균형 능력을 쉽고 간편하게 측정하는 방법과 그에 따른 결과를 제시하는 것은 청각장애 학생의 운동 교육에 중요한 자료가 될 것이다. 이러한 연구의 필요성에 따라 본 연구에서는 첫째, 보청기 유무에 따른 청각장애 학생의 균형 능력의 차이를 알아보았고, 둘째, 시각정보 입력의 유무에 따라 청각장애 학생의 균형 능력의 차이를 알아보았으며, 셋째, 발바닥 고유수용성 감각의 차이에 따라 청각장애 학생의 균형 능력의 차이를 알아보았다. 연구 결과 첫째, 보청기 착용 집단에서 안진의 지속 시간이 길어서(p<0.05) 청력 손실의 정도가 높을수록 균형 감각에 더 많은 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 시각 정보의 입력이 제공된 경우에 외발 기립 서기에 의한 정적 균형 수행 능력이 오래 지속(p<0.001)되어 시각이 청각장애 학생의 균형 능력에 밀접한 관련이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 발바닥 고유 수용성 감각이 양호한 지면에서 외발 기립 서기에 의한 정적 균형 수행 능력이 오래 지속(p<0.01)되어지지 면의 안정도가 청각장애 학생의 균형 능력 지도에 중요함을 알 수 있었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the vestibular function and static balance of students with hearing impairment. The subjects were 32(male 16, female 16) aged 11 to 19 with hearing impairment. Nystagumus testing was used to investigate the vestibular function and the one-leg standing method was used to investigate the static balance. The results were as follows: First, there were statistically significant differences on the vestibular function of students with hearing impairment in relation to with and without of hearing aids. This means the severer hearing impairment is, the severer vestibular function disorder is. Second, there was statistically significant difference on the static balance of students with hearing impairment in relation to with and without of visual input. This means the visual input is an important index of the static balance of students with hearing impairment. Third, there was statistically significant differences on the static balance of students with hearing impairment in relation to the difference of the proprioception of foot. This means the stabilization of base is important on the static balance ability of students with hearing impairment. As conclusion of this study, it is need to investigate the dynamic balance as well as the static balance of the more students with hearing impairment and to investigate the development of balance ability as the age of wearing of hearing aids in a following study.

Iridology, developed more than 100 years ago, is the diagnosis of medical conditions through noting irregularities of the pigmentation in the iris The purpose of this study is to compare interrelation between CVA, hypertension family history and cardio-renal connective tissue in Iris Constitution through iris constitution examination. The subjects consist of 114 patients who were examined in Iris Constitution at Chonju Oriental Medicine Hospital attached to Wonkwang Univ. from September. 1St. 2000 to August. 31th. 2002. 1. In the distribution of Iris Constitution, among of 79cases, There are neurogenic type 13cases, abdominal connective tissue weakness constitution 31 cases, cardio-renal connective tissue weakness constitution 6 cases, cholesterol 7 cases and others 22 case in control group. 2. There are familial history of CVA and hypertention 32 cases, no familial history of CVA and hypertention1 3 cases, in 35cases of experimental group. These results imply that there is meaningfulness of interrelation between cardio-renal connective tissue weakness constitution and. CVA, hypertention.
당귀(Angelica acutiloba)와 감초(Glycyrrhizauralensis)의 열 추출액이 장내 세균의 성장에 미치는 효과

Bifidobacteriurn longum, Bifidobacterium adolescentis, Clostridium butyricum, Escherichia coli and Eubacterium limosum were cultured on the modified PYF medium containing 0.5% of glucose, heating extract(w/w) of Angelica acutiloba or Glycyrrhiza uralensis, and anaerobically incubated for 48hrs at 37℃. As a control, the same intestinal microorganisms cultured on the PYF medium with no additives and they were compared with other treatments. The addition of the heating extract of Angelica acutiloba increase the growth but optical density was lower than addition of glucose for the growth of intestinal microorgamisms which were investigated in this study. However, the heating extract of Glycyrrhiza uralensis slightly inhibited the growth for most intestinal microorganisms(Bif. longum, Bif. adolescentis, Cl. butyricum, and Eu. limosum) and it had a significant inhibition effect on the growth of Eu limosum when they were compared with control.

<P>Human cytosolic aspartyl-tRNA synthetase (DRS) catalyzes the attachment of the amino acid aspartic acid to its cognate tRNA and it is a component of the multi-tRNA synthetase complex (MSC) which has been known to be involved in unexpected signaling pathways. Here, we report the crystal structure of DRS at a resolution of 2.25 Å. DRS is a homodimer with a dimer interface of 3750.5 Å<SUP>2</SUP> which comprises 16.6% of the monomeric surface area. Our structure reveals the C-terminal end of the N-helix which is considered as a unique addition in DRS, and its conformation further supports the switching model of the N-helix for the transfer of tRNA<SUP>Asp</SUP> to elongation factor 1α. From our analyses of the crystal structure and post-translational modification of DRS, we suggest that the phosphorylation of Ser146 provokes the separation of DRS from the MSC and provides the binding site for an interaction partner with unforeseen functions.</P>
Controllable pneumatic generator based on the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.

<P>This paper presents a novel compact and controllable pneumatic generator that uses hydrogen peroxide decomposition. A fuel micro-injector using a piston-pump mechanism is devised and tested to control the chemical decomposition rate. By controlling the injection rate, the feedback controller maintains the pressure of the gas reservoir at a desired pressure level. Thermodynamic analysis and experiments are performed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed pneumatic generator. Using a prototype of the pneumatic generator, it takes 6 s to reach 3.5 bars with a reservoir volume of 200 ml at the room temperature, which is sufficiently rapid and effective to maintain the repetitive lifting of a 1 kg mass.</P>

<P>The pneumatic actuator has high potential as an actuator for mobile devices due to its high power density, simplicity, compactness, light weight, and low cost. Moreover, inherent compliance of the pneumatic actuator improves safety and dynamic performance, which are strongly required for wearable robots. However, due to its need for a bulky air compressor, which is intended for stationary use, it is hard to apply a pneumatic actuator to mobile robots. To replace the air compressor, pneumatic energy sources utilizing chemical fuel were previously proposed and the potential of the hydrogen peroxide as a pneumatic energy source was proved. Nevertheless, pneumatic energy sources driven by hydrogen peroxide are generally bulky, which are hard to apply for a mesoscale system such as prosthetics. To address this challenge, this paper proposes novel pneumatic power generator driven by hydrogen peroxide. By applying a passive injection component and a mechanical pressure feedback mechanism, the pneumatic power generator regulates pressure by itself, without any control efforts, which results in compact size. In addition, a separated catalytic reactor and a fuel tank guarantee safety and mobility. The performances and energetic characteristics of the proposed pneumatic power generator are examined by both experiment and mathematical modeling.</P>
