        The purpose of this paper is to survey the synchronic distinctions and the diachronic distinctions of 'modal verbs in the English grammar. Modal verbs in Present-day English belongs to a class that shows major differences from main verbs in syntax, semantics and diachronic syntax. Among the interrelated problems to be addressed in this article are: a. Changes in individual verbs on the way to their present properties, both syntactic and semantic. b. Global changes that led to a class identity of modals c. whether modals are main verbs in Old English and Changes in the properties of the modality, both losses and gains the status of the modal Based on these problems it is argued that Modal verbs are differently behaved from main verbs in the syntax in that modal verbs are positioned on T of TP and main verbs are on V of VP. This different positioning causes these verbs to manifest the syntactic and semantic distinction. On diachronic considerations this article try to show how modal verbs in Old English have been acquired the status of present day Modal verbs.

        A Central question imposed with the Minimalist Program is this: how perfect is the computational component of human linguistic system(C_HL)? Perfection, in one sense, means that C_HL is the minimal structure imposed by the structure of external interface systems. This means that there are no -interpretable features in the output of C_HL because -interpretable features are not motivated by external interface system. So their existence is surprising if C_HL is perfect in the above sense. Still it is widely assumed that -interpretable features such as the Ø-features of TP, VP and PRT and EPP do exist and furthermore that they must be eliminated in the derivation. In this paper I try to show that a EPP feature is not motivated properly as one of the uninterpretable features and is reducible to the distinction of the full Ø-feature of finite TP and the partial Ø feature of non-finite TP. Adopting Chomsky(1998,1999)'s framework except an EPP feature, I show that the full- Ø feature of TP, which is composed of the person, number and gender, should be filled with an argument in its specifier due to its person feature in it because only the person feature is believed to be realized as a null morpheme in the computation. Hence the partial Ø-feature of TP, composed of the number, gender feature without the person feature, do not have any reason to be filled with an argument in that there is no person feature(null morpheme) in it. Based on this syntactic phenomena I show that much linguistic phenomena explained previously by an EPP feature can also be explained nicely in other way. Finally I would like to show that an EPP feature do not have any reason empirically necessary.

        This paper focuses on the comparative research on architectural theories about the expression and perception of architecture and on searching for new directions in architecture field for future. For this purpose many theses, based on monic, dual and plural approach to architectural theory are comparatively analysed. A concept of architecture as labor and work which is suggested by Klassen is used as the framework of the study. From this analysis, the objectives of this research were fulfilled to get the conclusion as follows. Development of science and technology suggests a new paradigms of architecture which will promote, on the one hand, user needs and participation, and, the other , will be animated by a holistic ecological view of the globe.

        영어동사이동에 대한 소고

        In this paper Verb movements are classified into 2 different operations: V-to-I and I-to-C, in which the one is a morphological checking operation and the other a syntactic operation and both of these operations will be subject to Affixal Feature-Based System (AFBS) I proposed. In AFBS, Verb movements are triggered by the morphological property [+person] of verbs itself, not by the property of INFL assumed gerenally and 'Do-Insertion' is considered to be a by-product of different realization of verbal features on representations between the property of affix features and [-person] Verbs

        This paper investigates the need of expansion of the Sunchon National University to prepare future campus growth. The study first investigates the relationship between the university and the industrial development of Chunnam East Sector. After that, the study investigates confronting problems related with the existing university facilities. Based on these, the study investigates the 4 types of campus expansion scheme. After the comparison of these schemes, relocation of the university is the best choice for the Sunchon National University for preparing future campus growth. The criteria for the selection of the best site are also invesitigated for the re-loacating the Sunchon National University. However, this study shows the needs of further investigation of find the best location among candidate sites.

        This paper is concerned with the mechanical behaviour of in-plane joints in composite structures. The impetus behind research stems from the growing development in modular construction techniques that offer competitive global access to higher technology. Characterisation of bonding response is important, as in most instances the primary role of a adhension is to impart bonding rigidity. A test programme involving several commonly used joining methods, including lap joints, internal spline and external tape, coupled with flexible and inflexible adhesives is used to demonstrate the mode of failure and strength of the joined composites and the process of redesign will be added later research work.

        통사적 이동에서의 목적어 이동

        This paper develops an argument for syntactic treatments on Object Shift in Scandinavian languages. In this paper object shift is considered to be a syntacitic operation based on consideration of Holmbeng's Generalization[HG], well - documented constraint on object shift in the Scandinavian language. Assumed Matushansky(2003)'s unification movement theory, I try to explain the properties of object shift, in particular aspects having to do with head-to-XP movement and [+Foc]features. The Unification Movement theory runs like this Head-movement and phrasal movement assume to be same thing and head undergoes movement to spec of XP in a same way as XP does. From the SPEC of XP, it is argued that head-merging operation called M-Merger happens. In this paper, if object moves to the SPEC of XP, The objects also undergo head-merging operation with verbs under the rule specified in this paper, which formulates that [-Foc] units such as the weak pronouns in Scandinavian language should be in adjacency with [+Foc] units.

        The extension of living zone and the increase of production and consumption resulting from the economic growth and the industrial progress lead to rapid motorization. Though the plus effects on the modern society from the motorization are very great, the negative effects, such as the division of community by the street, traffic environmental pollution, traffic accident and such like become serious social problems. The motor vehicle cannot be excluded from daily life owing to the advantage of door to door transportation for all that negative effects. So, the method for minimizing the negative effects is demanded intensively. This paper deals the traffic accident out of negative effects as follows. The situation of traffic accident in the city of Daegu is checked up and analized statistically. And some countermeasures on the traffic accident from aboved results are studied on the branches, such as education, regulation and facility improvement.

      • 대도시 도심지역 일방통행 체계 적용에 관한 연구

        요약문본 연구는 대구시 도심지역의 주요 간선도로를 대상으로 일방통행 적용 모의실험을 교통배 분모형을 통하여 행하였다. 일방통행 적용은 도심지역 전체 도로망에 대해 일괄적으로 행하 지 않고, 현실성 있는 일방통행 실현을 위하여 일방통행 대상 도로망을 도로망 형태 및 기 능, 교통량 패턴, 토지이용 특성 등의 기준을 설정하여 선정하였으며, 그 결과 도심지역의 동서간선도로의 경우에는 일방통행 적용 기준에 부적합한 것으로 판단되어 남북간선도로에 대해서만 적용하였다. 일방통행 운영 대안으로는 시내버스 운행과 관련하여 시내버스를 포 함한 일방통행 운영안(대안 1)과 시내버스 제외 일방통행 실시안(대안2) 등 2가지를 설정하 여 분석을 행하였다. 이상의 연구결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일방통행 운영 대안별 기대효과 분석 결과, 전차량 일방통행 실시안인 대안(1)이 교통 소통, 신호 및 차로운영, 연도 접근성 등의 여러 측면에서 가장 양호한 대안으로 나타났으 나, 대안(1)의 시행에는 41개 시내버스 노선 변경이라는 현실적인 어려움이 있는 것으로 분 석되었다.둘째, 일방통행 운영 대안별 평균통행속도 분석 결과, 일방통행 실시 대상 8개소 도로구간에 서는 대안별 약 23∼51% 증가, 1차 순환선내 주요 도로망에서는 대안별 약 26∼35% 증가 하는 것으로 분석되어 일방통행 실시에 따른 교통 소통력 개선효과도 매우 좋은 것으로 나 타났다.셋째, 일방통행 운영 대안별 교차로에 있어서 차량의 지체도 및 서비스수준 분석 결과는 2 가지 대안 모두 일방통행 실시전에 비해 교차로에서의 지체도가 대부분 100% 이상 개선되 었으며, 종단부 교통처리도 별 문제가 없는 것으로 분석되었다.Abstractthis study has been conducted a simulation of an oneway operation system using a traffic assignment model at major arterials in the CBD in Taegu city. For adaptiong of oneway operation system, arterials selected according to a criterion of road network types, road network functions, patterns of traffic volume, and land use characteristics, while it does not act of road network in whole CBD.The operating method has been analyzed, one for including city bus of oneway operating method(alternative I), and the other for excluding city bus (alternative Ⅱ). The results are as follow :First, the alternative 1 has been appeared most feasible one concerning for traffic operation, signal and lane operation, accessibility. However, the alternative 1 has been analyzed several problems changing about 41 city bus routes.Second, comparing each operating alternatives with average travel speed, eight places of oneway operations were increased about 23-51% within the first circulation. Therefore, the oneway ooperation is very efficient for traffic flow improvement.Third, the results of car delay and level of service analysis according to intersection analysis of each alternatives of oneway operation have been improved almost 100% efficiently, also there was not a big problem treating traffic operation at the end of oneway operation system.
