Scene text recognition is a challenging task because it contains a variety of background, noise, blur, fonts, and perspective views. Recently, deep learning-based algorithms, for example, RNNbased methods or Transformer-based methods, have shown outstanding results on the scene text recognition task. However, RNN-based methods suffer inherently from long-term dependency problems and Transformer-based methods have low accuracy in curved and irregular text. In this paper, we propose a novel deep neural network architecture which combines “Spatial Transformer Network” and “Transformer” network for scene text recognition. The proposed architecture shows consistently better word accuracy over widely used public word recognition datasets, compared to previous scene text recognition models.

Instance segmentation-based approach using Mask R-CNN is currently one of the leading methods for the text localization task. Different from general object detection tasks, the aspect ratio of text instances is too high to apply Mask R-CNN as it is. To simply apply Mask R-CNN for text detection yields false positives due to overgeneralized receptive fields for bounding boxes. In this paper, we propose a modified Mask R-CNN architecture for text detection. We present a method to extract features containing word-level and character-level receptive fields simultaneously. Our approach shows consistent performance improvement on MLT 2017 and Incidental Scene Text. Moreover, our method surpasses most of prior state-of-the-art text localization methods appeared in recent computer vision conferences.

Abstract

Sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES) composite membranes were prepared using graphene oxide (GO) and sulfonated poly(arylene thioether sulfone)-grafted graphene oxide (SATS-GO) as fillers for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) applications. When GO and SATS-GO were mixed with SPAES to form the composite membranes, dimensional stability, chemical stability, and mechanical strength were improved. The composite membranes containing SATS-GO especially showed higher proton conductivity than the pristine SPAES and the composite membrane containing GO because of highly sulfonated polymer (SATS) introduced on GO surface. Initial closed curve for active contour model on mesh

The accurate margin line extraction is a crucial process in computer-aided orthodontics. Margin line is boundary line of treatment region. Though curvature field is traditionally used for detect feature line, different shapes and scanning noises make hard to detect margin line automatically. Thus current dental CAD systems mostly require the user interactive definition of points by the user. So, we also use interactive defined starting points by the user. In medical image processing, active contour model is used to extract feature line. However it doesn’t work when initial curve is improper. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel closed curve initialization algorithm that makes initial curve on mesh by using starting points. Some experiments show our initialization method is robust and fast.

Lee, Jintaek,Panday, Siddhartha Bikram,Byun, Kyungseok,Lee, Jusung,Hwang, Jinny,Moon, Jeheon Korean Society of Sport Biomechanics 2019 한국운동역학회지 Vol.29 No.4
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of passive-acute temperature therapy of the femoral muscle and dynamic warm-up on the countermovement jump performance. Method: Twenty male track and field athletes from national team underwent three treatments applied on the femoral muscles; cold temperature treatment, thermal treatment and dynamic warm-up. The variables extracted at 2 time points (pre-measurement and post measurement) were the temperature of the left and right femoral muscle, displacement & velocity of centre of mass, peak power out, range of motion and moment & power of the knee joint. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the temperature of the femoral muscle according to measurement time which was high in the order of thermal treatment, dynamic treatment and cold treatment. The jump height was the highest in the dynamic warm-up with no statistically significant difference for the range of motion of the knee joint. The peak power out at dynamic warm-up and the power of the knee joint were statistically significant according to the treatment and measurement time. Conclusion: Local cold and thermal treatment of femoral muscles at ambient temperature did not improve jump performance, while dynamic warm-up was considered to be effective for maintaining the performance of the activities that require strong muscular power.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate the force production patterns of individual muscles surrounding the knee during running (RUN) and cutting (CUT) tasks. METHODS Thirteen women (24.2±3.5 yrs, 162.8±6.0 cm, 55.3±6.2 kg) performed a series of running and cutting tasks. Running and cutting motions were recorded using a motion capture system and ground reaction force (GRF) was recorded using a force plate. Three-dimensional knee angle, ground reaction force, and knee joint moment were calculated using Visual3D software. OpenSim musculoskeletal modeling software was used to calculate the force of individual muscles including the medial hamstring, biceps femoris long head, biceps femoris short head, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, gastrocnemius medialis, and gastrocnemius lateralis. All data were analyzed for loading response (or weight acceptance), mid-stance, and final push-off periods, respectively and were compared between two tasks. RESULTS At loading response: external rotation angle, medial and vertical GRFs, and valgus moment for the CUT task were greater than those of the RUN task. Compared to the RUN task, the CUT task showed: 1) an increase in lateral hamstring muscle force at weight acceptance, 2) a decrease in hamstring muscle force and an increase in medial vastus muscle force at mid-stance, and 3) an increase in lateral gastrocnemius muscle force at final push-off. CONCLUSIONS Selective force production patterns of muscles surrounding the knee seem to offset the external load caused by the cutting motion. We anticipate that our results will provide basic data for future training programs designed to prevent noncontact knee injuries.
