Pathological, immunohistochemical, and bacteriological findings in dogs infected with Brucella canis

This study describes pathological, immunohistochemical, and bacteriological findings in adult dogs and fetuses naturally infected with Brucella (B.) canis. A total of 42 dogs including 40 dogs and 2 aborted fetuses were examined. The most common gross lesions in infected dogs were swelling of lymph nodes and spleen. The testes showed marked swelling with multifocal to diffuse reddish discoloration. The most significant histopathological lesions were observed in the placenta. Placental trophoblasts were markedly hypertrophied due to the accumulation of intra-cellular gram-negative bacteria. Lymphocytic inflammation of varying severity was observed in the reproductive organs such as male testis, epididymis, and prostate gland and female uterus. Strong immunolabelling was observed in the cytoplasm of most trophoblasts in the placental tissues using immunohistochemistry. However, immunohistochemical staining did not demonstrate any organisms in other organs of dogs and fetuses. B. canis isolates were most frequently obtained from the whole blood (82.5%) and superficial inguinal lymph node (77.5%) in both sexes. In addition, the isolation rate was higher in male genital organs than in those of females. Hence, management of male dogs is most important because infected dogs can play a role as carriers.
A Study of Core Humanistic Competency for Developing Humanism Education for Medical Students

<P>The authors conducted a survey on essential humanistic competency that medical students should have, and on teaching methods that will effectively develop such attributes. The participants consisted of 154 medical school professors, 589 medical students at Seoul National University College of Medicine, 228 parents, and 161 medical school and university hospital staff. They answered nine questions that the authors created. According to the results, all groups chose 'morality and a sense of ethics,' a 'sense of accountability,' 'communication skills,' and 'empathic ability' were selected as essential qualities. According to the evaluation on the extent to which students possess each quality, participants believed students had a high 'sense of accountability' and 'morality,' whereas they thought students had low 'empathic ability,' 'communicate,' or 'collaborate with others'. In terms of effective teaching methods, all sub-groups preferred extracurricular activities including small group activities, debates, and volunteer services. With regard to the speculated effect of humanism education and the awareness of the need for colleges to offer it, all sub-groups had a positive response. However the professors and students expressed a relatively passive stance on introducing humanism education as a credited course. Most participants responded that they preferred a grading method based on their rate of participation, not a relative evaluation. In order to reap more comprehensive and lasting effects of humanism education courses in medical school, it is necessary to conduct faculty training, and continuously strive to develop new teaching methods.</P>

Heat stroke in a dog is a life-threatening syndrome characterized by a high body temperature over 41°C, by the central nervous system dysfunction, and by multiple organ dysfunction. A 11-month-old male American Pit Bull Terrier was presented to clarify the cause of death to diagnostic laboratory. This dog showed clinical signs such as high body temperature (42°C), severe tachypnea, hematochezia, epistaxis and hemoptysis after transportation at hot summer time. At necropsy, there were hemorrhages in skin, serosa of stomach and small intestine, and also dark red fluid in lumen of intestine. Histopathologic examination revealed extensive hemorrhages in stomach, muscle, skin, and tongue. In microbiology, pathologic bacteria such as Pasteurella, Boedetella, Salmonella, Clostridium, and circulating virus in Korea such as CDV, CIV, CAV, CHV, CCV, CPIV were negative except CPV. There were many gross and microscopic lesions suggesting hest stroke while pathologic agents and related lesions were not detected. Therefore we diagnosed this case as heatstroke.

Purpose: People with a family history of mood disorder are more likely to have depression. This study compared the characteristics of non-psychotic major depression disorder according to family history of depression. Method: Subjects were total of 817 persons recruited for the CRESCEND-K multicenter trial. Characteristics of depression and suicide history of patients with and without a family history of depression were assessed. Family history was determined through self-report. Results: Of 817 participants, 12.4% had a positive family history of depression. Those with family history of depression reported an earlier age at onset of MDD, and more psychiatric comorbidity. Severity of depression and anxiety were not different according to family history of depression. There were no difference in attempted suicide history, number of attempted suicide and age at onset of 1st attempted suicide according to such a family history. Conclusion: Patients with family history of depression reported earlier onset of MDD and more history of psychiatric comorbidity.

인터랙션 디자인의 영역은 데스크탑 환경에서 웹, 모바일 환경을 넘어 다양한 기기와 공간 속으로 빠르게 확장되고 있다. 이러한 변화와 진화를 반영한 인터랙션 UI패턴 정보를 제공하기 위해서는, 다양한 사용자들이 참여할 수 있고 협업, 즉 참여자 중심의 지속적 진화가 가능한 패턴 라이브러리 사이트가 반드시 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 Web 2.0의 특성을 반영하는 wiki 플랫폼을 채택하여, 사용자들의 참여를 통해 진화하는 새로운 UI패턴 라이브러리 디자인을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여, 패턴의 근본적 개념을 이해하고, 인터랙션 디자인에서 패턴의 개념이 적용된 연구들을 살펴보았다. 그리고 Web 2.0과 wiki에 대한 고찰을 통해 새로운 UI패턴 라이브러리의 디자인 전략을 설정하고, ixpatterns.com의 디자인을 진행하였다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 새로운 UI패턴 라이브러리는 wiki의 개방형 구조를 기반으로 UI패턴 생성이 용이하며, 사용자 니즈를 고려한 정보체계로 구성되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 빠르게 진화하는 인터랙션 디자인 환경의 특성을 반영하여, 전문 인터랙션 디자이너와 교육자, 그리고 인터랙션 디자인 관련 전문 기획자 및 일반인 모두가 참여할 수 있고 유용하게 활용할 수 있는 라이브러리 웹사이트를 디자인하는 데 초점을 두었다. 본 연구를 통해 제안되는 UI패턴 라이브러리는 wiki 플랫폼 기반으로 개발되는 웹 라이브러리 선례라는 점에서도 그 연구의 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다. The boundary of interaction design has expanded from desktop environment, web-site, and mobile design to diverse objects in our everyday life. In order to provide UI patterns reflecting these changes and evolutions, collaborative and participatory UI pattern library needs to be developed. The goal of this research is to design a new UI pattern library based on the wiki platform, one of Web 2.0 systems. This library will be evolved constantly by diverse users` participations. To achieve the goal, this research reviews the original concept of pattern, the application cases of the concept of pattern in interaction researches, the concept of Web 2.0 and the characteristics of the wiki platform. The strategies to design the new UI patterns library, named ixpatterns.com, were drawn based on the reviews. The UI pattern library proposed by this research has open structure that enables users of the library to easily update UI patterns. Also, the IA (Information Architecture) was developed by considering user groups` needs. The ixpattern.com is expected to be a significant case in UI pattern libraries because of its application way of the concept of Web 2.0.

<P>With the recent emergence of flexible and wearable optoelectronic devices, the achievement of sufficient bendability and stretchability of transparent and conducting electrodes (TCEs) has become an important requirement. Although metal mesh -based structures have been investigated for TCEs because of their excellent performances, the fabrication of mesh or grid structures with a submicron line width is still complex due to the requirements of laborious lithography and pattern transfer steps. Here, we introduce an extremely facile fabrication technique for metal patterns embedded in a flexible substrate based on submicron replication and an area-selective delamination (ASD) pattern. The high-yield, area-specific lift-off process is based on the principle of solvent-assisted delamination of deposited metal thin films and a mechanical triggering effect by soft wiping or ultrasonication. Our fabrication process is very simple, convenient, and cost-effective in that it does not require any lithography/etching steps or sophisticated facilities. Moreover, their outstanding optical and electrical properties (e.g., sheet resistances of 0.43 Omega sq(-1) at 94% transmittance), which are markedly superior to those of other flexible TCEs, are demonstrated. Furthermore, there is no significant change of resistance over 1000 repeated bending cycles, with a bending radius of 5 mm, and immersion in various solvents such as salt water and organic solvents. Finally, we demonstrate highperformance transparent heaters and flexible touch panels fabricated using the nanomesh electrode, confirming the longrange electrical conduction and reliability of the electrode.</P>

Recently, accidents caused by the aging of structures are occurring frequently in the world. As a result, maintenance and accident prevention of structures are required. In this study, for the purpose of addressing these issues to solve these problems, we developed a non - destructive inspection technique using thermal imaging and planned damage detection process. we set up a scenario to detect the invisible excursions, cracks, and internal damage by sensing and analyzing the thermal energy radiated by the stainless steel test piece (STS304) with infrared thermal imaging equipment.
