Broadcasting System Compliant with MPEG-2/4 IPMPX

In this paper, we present an intellectual property management and protection (IPMP) system in a broadcasting environment to provide mechanisms for copyright and contents protection that are compliant with the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 IPMP Extension (IPMPX) specifications. The technology for processing IPMP related information was exploited, and a terminal model has been successfully designed and implemented. In addition, interoperability, which is the main objective of MPEG-2/4 IPMPX, has been addressed in detail. The experimental results show that the implemented system performs the IPMP process well, meeting the requirements of a broadcasting environment.
A Novel Audio Watermarking Algorithm for Copyright Protection of Digital Audio

Digital watermark technology is now drawing attention as a new method of protecting digital content from unauthorized copying. This paper presents a novel audio watermarking algorithm to protect against unauthorized copying of digital audio. The proposed watermarking scheme includes a psychoacoustic model of MPEG audio coding to ensure that the watermarking does not affect the quality of the original sound. After embe dding the watermark, our scheme extracts copyright information without access to the original signal by using a whitening procedure for linear prediction filtering before correlation. Experimental results show that our watermarking scheme is robust against common signal processing attacks and it introduces no audible distortion after watermark insertion.
Tribological Properties of a Magnetorheological (MR) Fluid in a Finishing Process

<P> This article examines the tribological properties of a magnetorheological (MR) fluid in a finishing process. The MR fluid under investigation contains about 85 wt% of micro-sized carbonyl iron (CI) particles and about 15 wt% of water and surfactant(s) compound. A semi-empirical material removal model is proposed for the description of the tribological behavior of the MR fluid in the finishing process by considering both the solid- and fluid-like characteristics of the fluid in a magnetic field. Additionally, Archard's theory and Amonton's law of friction are applied to the model, which is completed by experimental efforts to identify the relationship between the effective friction coefficient and the ratio of the interfacial particle velocity to the imposed pressure on the workpiece surface. It turns out that the effective friction coefficient has a linear relationship with this ratio. The validity of the proposed model is supported through material removal rate measurements. It is also shown that the proposed model is substantially different from the conventional Preston equation in that the material removal rate is not only a function of the product of the applied normal pressure and relative velocity, but it also strongly depends on the square of the relative velocity.</P>
Removal Of Noise From Speech Using Wavelet Transform

This paper describes a general problem of removing additive background noise from the noisy speech in the wavelet domain. A semisoft thresholding is used to remove noise components from the wavelet coefficients of noisy speech. To prevent quality degradation of the unvoiced sounds during the denoising process, the unvoiced region is classified first and then thresholding is applied in a different way. For the noisy speech having SNR of 10 to -10 ㏈, the average SNR improvement of 4 to 10 ㏈ is achieved, and experimental results demonstrate that the speech enhancement algorithm using the wavelet transform is very promising.
