        Owing to frequent heavy rain due to abnormal weather, the occurrence of pepper anthracnose has recently increased, which affects the supply and demand of pepper. As a result, the price of red pepper powder in 2011, for example, increased three times compared to the average year. Although anthracnose of pepper plants has been controlled by fungicides until now, it is important to develop new resistant cultivars because of the reduction of the labor force in rural area and occurrence of new anthracnose strains resistant to fungicides. National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science developed two pepper lines, ‘Wonye 100005’ and ‘Wonye 100006’ that are resistant to pepper anthracnose. These lines were developed by continuous selection of progenies from a cross between ‘Wonye AR1’, which were developed from interspecific hybridization and ‘TF68’. The anthracnose resistance level of the two lines was higher than that of commercial cultivars and similar to check varieties showing highest level of anthracnose resistance.

      • Influences of High Environmental Temperatures in Pigs

        The thermal environment is the most important ecological factor determining the growth, development, and productivity of domestic animals. In modern, environmental-caused heat stress is with major concern because of its harmful impacts, especially for high-productive animals. Especially, swine are extremely weak to high environmental temperatures because their sweat gland are not developed on body. When pigs are exposed to high environmental temperature and feel the heat stress, it causes various changes in the body such as blood flow, hormone, digestive system. The intestine is highly sensitive to heat stress in swine. Therefore, heat stress is directly related to pig production. Particle size of the feed ingredients is also an important factor in pig production. Thus, it is also important to fine the appropriate particle size of feed ingredients at high environmental temperatures.

      • Effect of Various Essential Oils in Mono Gastric Animal

        From last decades, essential oils have been widely utilized as additives for animal feed as well as humans. Essential oil as an additive has a good effect. In addition, it has attracted attention as an effective additive for antibiotic use and reduction odor emissions in the problems of animal industry. Essential oils are aromatic oils extracted by herbs and plant leaves, petals, stems, husks, roots and are secondary products of plants that display color and odor as hormone components of plants. Essential oils are 100% pure natural ingredients and do not have a harmful effect on body. Most of essential oils are Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) and are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In this study, we compared nutrient digestibility, growth rate, blood profiles and odor reduction effects among the essential oils. The purpose of this review is to validate and compare several previously proven effects. Furthermore, it is to summarize and define that the effects of essential oils as animal additives.

        중국 수출 품종 육성용 무 조합의 주요 성분 함량과 이화학적 특성의 상관관계

        본 연구에서는 무 품종의 주요 성분과 이화학적 특성의 상관관계를 분석하고, 이를 수출용 무를 육종하는 데 기초자료로서 제공하고자 하였다. 중국시장 수출용 품종 개발을 위해 선정된 무 16개 F1 조합에 대하여 색도, 조직감, β-amylase 활성, 페놀, 셀룰로오스, 전분 및 유리당 함량을 측정하였으며 필요한 경우 각 성분, 혹은 이화학적 특성 사이의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 총페놀 함량은 건물기준 평균 26.0±3.0mg GAE/g 로 나타났으며 색도와의 상관관계는 명도에 대하여 음의 상관관계를 나타내었고 적색도와 황색도 값에 대하여 각각 양의 상관관계를 나타내었다. 셀룰로오스와 전분 함량은 건물 100g 기준으로 각각 17.9±2.6g, 3.06±1.08g으로 측정되었다. 무의 절삭력(cutting force)은 셀룰로오스와 전분 함량에 대하여 양의 상관관계를 보였으나 고도의 상관성을 나타내지는 않았다. β-Amylase 효소 활성은 건물 기준 45-170 total unit/g 범위로, 유리당 함량은 195±49mg·g<SUP>-1</SUP>으로 나타났다. 흥미롭게도, β-amylase 효소 활성과 전분 함량 혹은 유리당 함량은 통계적으로 유의적인 상관성이 없는 것으로 분석되었는데, 이는 무의 저장 시간이 매우 짧았기 때문일 수 있다. 이와 같은 결과는 중국시장을 겨냥한 수출용 무 품종 개발에 필요한 기초정보를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. Major components including total phenolic compounds, cellulose, starch and soluble sugar and physicochemical properties of radish breeding combinations were determined and statistically analyzed to evaluate their relationship and to develop radish cultivars targeting foreign market. Sixteen radish combinations selected for Chinese market were analyzed in color and total phenolic compounds, texture and cellulose, β-amylase activity and starch/soluble sugars. In addition, relationship between each component was estimated using Pearson correlation coefficients. Total phenolic contents of radish were 26.0±3.0 mg gallic acid equivalent per gram dry weight (dw). Correlation between brightness of surface and the total phenolic content was negative, but redness or yellowness showed positive correlation. Cellulose and starch contents were 17.9±2.6 g/100 g dw and 3.06±1.08 g/100 g dw, respectively. Those contents and the cutting force of radish showed positive relationship, but according to Pearson correlation coefficient, it was not statistically significant. Activity of β-amylase was 93.2±38.0 total unit/g dw in average, and soluble sugar was detected as 195±49 mg·g<SUP>-1</SUP> dw. Unexpectedly, the β-amylase activity and starch or soluble sugar contents showed no statistically significant correlation, which might be due to very short storage time of radishes before analysis. These results could be valuable information for the development of radish cultivars applicable for dried radish targeting Chinese market.

        Context-Dependent Metaphor Comprehension Ability of School-Aged Children with Borderline Intellectual Functioning

        배경 및 목적: 학령기 경계선 지능 아동의 은유 이해 능력을 알아보기 위하여 은유 문장만 제시되는 비문맥 조건과 대화상황의 언어문맥이 제시되는 문맥 조건에서 일반아동과 경계선 지능 아동의 은유 이해 능력을 비교하였다. 방법: 언어 연령이 만 7-8세인 경계선 지능 아동 10명과 언어연령을 일치시킨 일반아동 10명, 총 20명이 본 연구에 참여하였다. 연구 과제는 은유 문장만 제시된 비문맥 조건과 대화상황 언어문맥이 제시된 문맥 조건 과제 각각 18문항씩 총 36문항으로 구성하였다. 문맥 유무의 조건에 따른 은유 문장은 중복되지 않도록 두 개의 세트를 구성하였다. 두 집단의 문맥 유무에 따른 은유 이해 능력을 비교하기 위하여 집단(2)×문맥(2)의 이원혼합분산분석을 실시하였다. 결과: 이원혼합분산분석 결과 집단, 문맥의 주효과가 유의하였으며 집단×문맥의 상호작용 효과 역시 유의하였다. 논의 및 결론: 경계선 지능 아동은 일반 아동에 비해 은유적 표현을 이해하는 데 유의하게 낮은 수행력을 보였으며 두 집단 모두 비문맥 조건보다 문맥 조건에서 더 높은 수행력을 보였다. 대화상황의 언어적 문맥은 은유 이해를 돕는다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과에 따라 연구의 시사점 및 제한점을 기술하였다. Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the metaphor comprehension ability of school-aged children with borderline intellectual functioning (BIF) and typically developing (TD) children. Methods: Children with BIF who were language-age 7 to 8 (N=10) and TD children with matched language age (N=10) participated in this study. To examine their metaphor comprehension ability depending on contextual condition, two tasks were performed, based on the following conditions: a non-contextual condition presenting only metaphorical sentences (18 items) and a contextual condition presenting contexts in the form of a short conversation (18 items). The children were instructed to choose an answer to each question among three example choices (correct interpretation choice, literal error choice including vehicle, and irrelevant choice). Results: A two-way mixed ANOVA of group (2)×context condition (2) revealed statistically significant main effects for group and context condition. There was also a significant interaction effect. Conclusion: The children with BIF had more difficulty comprehending metaphor as compared with the TD children. These results imply that the children with BIF were less capable of inferring the meaning of metaphor than TD children. In a conversational linguistic context, both children with BIF and TD performed better than in a non-contextual condition. The implications and limitations of the study were discussed based on these results.

      • Causes and Prevention Method of Gastric Ulcer in Pigs

        It is important and is studying the occurrence date of gastric ulcers in pigs in several Western countries. Gastric ulcers were founded in almost all pigs with only a difference in progress, and usually were occurred on the par esophagea in pigs. Also, it is generally difficult to detect until biological signs and symptoms appear. Many studies have shown that gastric ulcers have a wide variety of causes. Gastric ulcers were influenced by particle size in diets. If the particle size in diets is less than 400 microns, gastric ulcers easily occur. In nutritional aspects, gastric ulcers were influenced by fiber, vitamin E, zinc and melatonin. Many studies showed that when the fiber, zinc, melatonin and vitamin E were added in diet, gastric ulcers in pigs decrease. In feeding management, the elements such as straw and feed restriction affected the gastric ulcers of pigs. All these factors connected with a stress in pigs, and stress results in productions of large amounts of excess acid. Because of excessively producing a gastric acid, gastric ulcers occur. However, many people in Korea are interested in the gastric ulcers of pigs. Therefore, further studies on gastric ulcers of pigs should be conducted and researcher in Korea should try to prevent them in livestock industry.

        본 연구는 한국 사찰음식의 세계화를 위한 브랜드 개발에 있어서 ``브랜드와 디자인, 마케팅``을 융합된 시점에서 바라보고 Graphic Identity, Space Identity의 통합브랜드를 구축하는 일련의 프로세스를 밝히는데 목적이 있다. 이에 본 연구의 대상은 2014년 3윌~ 6윌 15주간 숙명여대 환경디자인학과 〈브랜드스페이스마케팅〉수업에서 진행된 수업의 결과물이로서 6개 팀중 1개 팀의 작업물을 정리한 것이다. 또한 본 연구의 범위는 4개(物, 事 人, 場)의 주제 중 物의 ``식음``으로 한정한다. 그 결과, 디자인과 마케팅의 융합된 측면에서 도출된 ‘바루(Baru)’는 사찰음식이라는 어감이 주는 종교적인 느낌과 긴 조리시간의 약점을 보완하고, 사찰음식에 대한 인식부족 및 비싼 가격의 위기를 극복하기 위해 트럭형식으로 공간화하고, 대상은 젊은 20~30대로 겨냥하여 올바른 식문화를 전파하는데 전략화하였다. 또한 캐 주얼하게 이동하면서 식사를 할 수 있는 테크아웃형의 보자기 도시락 및 푸드트럭은 아이디어와 디자인, 마케팅이 융합된 결과물이라 할 수 있다. 끝으로 본 연구는 사찰음식 ‘바루’브랜드 아이덴티티를 개발함에 있어 디자인과 마케팅이 융합된 통합 브랜드 아이덴티티를 만든 것에 의의가 있다. 또한 향후 타 브랜드의 통합브랜드 디자인 매뉴얼 개발에 있어서 그 기초 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대한다. This study aims to take a look at ``Brand, Design, and Marketing`` from a convergence perspective and explicate a series of process to establish an integrative brand of graphic identity, product identity, and space identity, in developing the brand to globalize Korean temple food. The subject of this study is a compilation of the work of a team among six teams from their course products in the ``Brand Space Marketing`` course in the Department of Environmental Design in Sookmyung Women`s University which was provided for 15weeks between March and June, 2014. In addition, the scope of this study is limited to ``food and beverage`` of Thing among four themes (Thing, Work, Person, and Place). As a result, ``Baru``, which was derived from the fusion of design and marketing aspects, was strategized to complement the religious tone of temple food and the shortcoming of long cooking time in addition to spatializing it with a truck format to overcome the lack of awareness of temple food and high price, and spread the proper food culture, tarageting 20s and 30 of younger generations. In addition, the take-out type of lunch box in a cloth wrapper and the food truck that allows the casual eating on the move can be the product of combining idea, design, and marketing together. Lastly, the significance of the this study lies in creating a brand identity that integrated design and marketing in developing the brand identity of temple food, ``Baru.`` Also this study is expected to inform the manual development of the integrative brand design for other brands in the future.
