        Natural gas storage with an adsorbent has been considered a promising technology for use in natural gas flued vehicles. Among adsorbents investigated, carbon materials are the most effective in the storage of natural gas at low pressures around 40atm. Activated carbons were prepared with chemical treatment of rice hulls using KOH. Activated carbon powder was mixed with phenol/starch solution as a binder and then pressed in a mold at 70atm to produce into a monolithic form. The monolithic form was cured at 120℃ in a convection oven. Bulk density was increased with the binder content and the highest bulk density was obtained with 50% of binder content. Methane capacity(v/v) was increased with binder contents due to the higher packing density. The highest methane capacity determined with 40% of binder contents as 96v/v.

      • Pentadecafluorroctyl Polyacrylate에 依한 Nylon 6 纖維의 撥水加工에 關한 硏究

        This study has been investigated on the effects of fluorochemical repellent agent on the water repellent finishes of nylon 6 fibre with pentadecafluorooctyl polyacrylate. Contact angles of various liquids on the fluorochemical treated nylon 6 surface are measured. The critical surface tension of about 46 dynes per cm on the nylon 6 surface is resulted. The effect of fluorochemical repellent was most favourable at 1% concentration repellent agent and the critical surface tension is resulted the value of about 10.5 dynes per cm. The use of antistatic agent in the fluorochemical repellent was most favourable below 0.5% concentration. It was found that the repellent effects were improved by repeated treatments with the solution of lower concentration of repellent.

        This paper is studied to improve the curriculum of the College of Industrial Education of Chungnam National University, which is more helpful for the students to become a competent teacher of technical high school. The thesis includes the curriculum of general, professional, technical subjects and so on. The main conclusions are summarized as follows; 1) The current curriculum of the College of Industrial Education was formed on a wholesale manner following the basis of standard courses for some characterized engineering colleges. But the suggested is conformed to the curriculum system of CNU in credits and hours. 2) The current technical subjects are mainly based on the curriculum of college of engineering, but the newly suggested technical subjects are conformed to the curriculum of technical high school as following that some departments of engineering are founded in the College of Industrial Education. 3) In current curriculum, the ratio of reguired technical subjects to elective technical subjects is 85:15. In suggested curriculum, the ratio of it is largely changed to 45:55 for effective operation of minor cousres. And the lists of the subjects for minor courses are changed from subjects for College of Science to subjects for College of Engineering.

        Soduble species bi-producing in the synthesis of analcite making use of domestic clay and silicate minerals are recovered. And the usefulness as inorganic materials for textile finishing was investigated. The results are summerized as follows; 1. Hydrosol from bentontonite ore have a good effect for textile finishing. 2. The soil-resistant effect for cloth treating with hydrosol from bentonite ore is compared with organic dispersants. 3. The breaking strength is increased about 30% by treatment to each fibers in rope and also elongation is controlled same as raw materials.

        This paper aims at providing a concrete plan to improve technical and vocational teacher education in the College of Industrial Education of Chungnam National University. It is intended to propose a practical four-year regular and short-term course. Also, the estimated required facilities is included in this study as well as their management. The main conclusions and recommendations are summarized as follows; 1) The numbers of students enrollment should be reduced to 220 students which is the approximate number of future demand. 2) In order to offer to the students a broader education and to cope with the increase/decrease in demand of technical and vocational teacher within a specific field, the 8 department existing at the present (Department of Architecture Engineering Education, Civil Eng. Educ., Metallurgical Eng. Educ., Mechanical Eng. .Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Electronic Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.) would be combined into 5 (Department of Construction Engineering Education, Mechanical Eng. Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.). 3) The short-term course program is recommened to provide additional training and education to those candidates who already have experience in technical fields to meet an occasional demand. 4) It is necessary to add the Teaching Profession Section in the administrative organization of the College.

        Lower-order ARMA Modeling of Head-Related Transfer Functions for Sound-Field Synthesis Systme

        A new method for efficient modeling of the Head-Related Transfer Functions(HRTF's) without loss of any directional information is proposed. In this paper, the HRTF's were empirically measured in a real room and modeled as the ARMA models with common AR coefficients and different MA coefficients. To assess the validity of the proposed ARMA model, psychophysical tests show that the proposed ARMA model, in comparison with the conventional MA model, requires a small number of parameters to represent empirical HRTF's and improves the back-to-front confusions in sound-field localization. Thus, significant simplifications in the implementations of sound-field synthesis systems could be obtained by using the proposed ARMA model.

      • VIRTUAL REALITY SHIP SIMULATOR

        This paper describes prototype Virtual Reality Ship Simulator (VRSS) that we have recently developed next-generation training equipment based on the virtual reality (VR) technology. The inherent defects of conventional ship simulators are enormous costs and difficult system upgrade due to the system construction. such as large mock-up bridge system. wide visual presentations. In this paper, to cope with those problems. we explored VR technologies that can give realistic environments in a virtual world. Then we constructed prototype VRSS system. which is, consists of PC-based human sensors. and Databases set having 3D object models and coefficients of Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs). 3D-WEBMASTER authoring tool was used as Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML). Using the VRSS system, we constructed Port and Passage Simulator for the harbor of INCHON in Korea, and Ship and Sea State Simulator for an arbitrary given sea environmental states by user. Through many simulation tests. we testified the efficiency of developed prototype VRSS by subject assessment with five participants. Then, we present results on the simulation experiments and conclude with discussion of evaluation results.

        Biosynthesis of Drosopterins

        The $quot;drosopterin$quot; eye pigments of Drosophila melanogaster appear to be formed from two pteridine ring systems in which one of the pteridines has been altered. During studies on sepiaterin synthase we found that radioactive ~dihydroneopterin triphosphate (H₂-neopterin-(p)₃) was converted not only to sepiapterin, but to six $quot;drosopterins$quot; as well. In this report the methods for preparation of enzyme fractions are descrived, as are some of the cofactor requirements for $quot;drosopterin$quot; biosynthesis. The purple (pr) mutant is deficient in sepiapterin synthase, an enzyme that requires both Mg^(2+) and NADPH to convert H₂-neopterin-(P)₃ to ;sepiapterin. The level of enzyme activity in this mutant, 10-30% that of wild type, can be restored fully when the suppressor mutant su(s) is also present in the genotype. The amounts of $quot;drosopterins$quot; in the pr mutant are 30% of normal and are also restored to normal by the su(s) mutant. To increase understanding of the mechanism of suppression, we wish to define the gene product of the su(s) locus and how it affects the activity of the mutant sepiapterin synthesis and the synthesis of $quot;drosopterins.$quot;

        A Study on the Analysis and Identification of Seafarers' Skill-Rule-Knowledge Inherent in Maritime Accidents

        The purpose of this study is to classify the deficient abilities of seafarers into SRK (Skill, Rule, and Knowledge) and analyze and identify the SRK by the type of accident and ship. Experimental data used the SRK cumulative frequency for 1,606 marine accident records and two-way ANOVA and t-test were used for the analysis tools. The results of two-way ANOVA showed that it is possible to identify the deficient abilities by using the cumulative frequency of SRK in both accident and ship types. As a result of the t-test, the adoption of the null hypothesis (H=0) that the mean of two pairs is equal and the rejection of the null hypothesis (H=1) were 29.2 % and 70.8 %, respectively. For the ship type, H=0 is 33.3 % and H=1 is 66.7 %. Through this study, it was found that about 70 % of the deficient abilities of seafarers inherent in maritime accidents can be identified using the proposed method.
