Disk assays on the compounds (10 and 12) showed both to have antifungal activity against the dermatophytic fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes ATCC 28185, (1 and 3 mm inhibition zones at $60\;{\mu}g/disc$), but not against the Gram-positive bacterium B. subtilis or the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa or fungi Cladosporium resinae and Candida albicans. However, the compound (13) did not show against antifungal activity. The geranyloxy compounds (10, 12, and 13) were cytotoxic to P388 murine leukaemia cells ATCC CCL 46 P388D1, ($IC_50$ >6,250 ng/mL at $7.5\;{\mu}g/disc$). These results suggest that The geranyloxy compounds possesses antimicrobial and antitumor activities.

Compounds 1 - 12 were tested for their growth inhibitory effects against tumor cell lines using two different 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and sulforhodamine B protein (SRB) assays and antimicrobial activity. The cytotoxic activity of methyl-4[{(2E)-3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadienyl}oxy]-3-methoxy benzoate (1) exhibit more active than that of 5-fluorouracil (11) on human oral epithelioid carcinoma (KB, ATCC No. OCL 17) cell lines. But this compound (1) on human skin melanoma (SK-MEL-3, HBT 69) cell lines shows less active than that of adriamycin (12). However, compound 9 showed the antimicrobial activity against S. epidermidis (MIC, 15.625 ㎍/㎖), S. aureus, C. albicans (MIC, 31.25 ㎍/㎖), S. mutans, S. typhimurium, P. putida (MIC, 125 ㎍/㎖) and P. aeruginosa (MIC, 500 ㎍/㎖)

The authors has made an investigation on the water pollution of Kum River in chungnam province area from January to December 1981 and discusses the results of the water quality for the water samples were taken from 5 stations along the Kum River basin that is, Caechung dam (Ⅰ), Meapo(Ⅱ), Yeungi(Ⅲ), Gongju(ⅳ) Bueyeu(ⅴ). It is confirmed, by the analysis of B.O.D., C.O.D., S.S. and coliform that the Kum rever water was relatively less polluted than the other. Therefore it may be suitable still as source of water system. The relationships between pollutants in the Kum River Basin are as follow; B.O.D.(㎎/ℓ)=1.30C.O.D.-0.05(㎎/ℓ)

Analysis of substance on the Ethrel(2-chloroethylphosphonic acid) sparyed tomatoes and natural growing tomatoes has been inverstigated. The measured results from this study were as followings; 1. Tomatoes are in buffer state of several organic acid. 2. At green state acidity and reducing sugar contents are increased gradually. 3. At after taken, the reducing sugar is increased rapidly. 4. The contents of vitamin C, glucose, protein in Ethrel sprayed tomatoes are not increased.
EBT로 처리된 음이온 교환수지에 의한 Fe(Ⅲ), Ca(Ⅱ), Mg(Ⅱ) 및 Ni(Ⅱ)이온의 흡착에 관한 연구

The adsorption of Fe(Ⅲ), Ca(Ⅱ), Mg(Ⅱ) and Ni(Ⅱ) ions by chelating agent-treated resin was studied in aqueous media. The resin was prepared by the treated conventional anion exchange resin, Dowex l-X8 (50 to 100 mesh) with chelating agent containing sulfonic groups such as Eriochrome Black T(EBT). The stability of the resin was markedly influenced by the pH of the media. The optimum conditions for the adsorption of metal ions were determined in respect to the pH, shaking time and mixture solution of metal ions. Separations of Fe(Ⅲ) and Ca(Ⅱ) from multicomponent solutions of Fe(Ⅲ), Ca (Ⅱ) Mg(Ⅱ) and Ni(Ⅱ) are possible by adjusting the pH of these solutions. The total caoacities of the resins in Fe (Ⅲ) were found 3.99㎛ol/gr in the condition of pH 3.0 and in Ca 3.79㎛ol/gr in the condition of pH. 8.8.
포스포닐화된 어택틱 폴리프로필레수지에 의한 금속이온의 흡착에 관한 연구

The adsorption of metal ions by chelating agent-loaded resins was studied in aqueous media. The resins were prepared by loading the conventional cation exchange resin, coated glass powder by pohsphonyl atactic polypropylene resin(200 to 250 mesh) with chelating agents containing hydroxyl groups. The composition of synthetic resins was analyzed by infrared absorption spectroscopy and also discussed. The optimum conditions for the adsorption of metal ions were determined with respect to the shaking time, the effect of cation concentration and the effect of adsorption of capacities on the industrial waste water in the medium.
