Choi, Mihyun,Lee, Hyeyeon,Kim, Mieun,Kim, Junyoung,Lee, Namsoon,Chang, Jinhwa,Jung, Joohyun,Choi, Mincheol The Korean Society of Veterinary Science 2010 大韓獸醫學會誌 Vol.50 No.1
Evaluation of the myelography was studied in miniature pigs. Radiographs and computed tomographic (CT) images of the whole spine were obtained at clinically healthy twelve miniature pigs of 4 (8.7-10 kg) and 12 (26-31 kg) months. The assessments of the spinal cord were made in accordance with the Pavlov's method and compared area ratio [at spinal cord (SC), vertebral canal (VC) and vertebral body (VB)]. The Pavlov's ratio in the cervical spine was significant larger than that of thoracolumbar in radiographic myelography. On CT myelography, the area of the spinal cord had a significant difference between the cervical and thoracolumbar spine. Among the cervical spine, the ratios of spinal cord and vertebral body (SC : VB), vertebral canal and vertebral body (VC : VB) were minimum at the level of 4th cervical spine in both ages, while maximum at the level of 6th cervical spine in both months. In case of lumbar spine, the ratios of spinal cord and vertebral body (SC : VB) were the largest at the level of 4th lumbar spine in 4 months and at the level of 3rd lumbar spine in 12 months. In addition, the ratio of spinal cord and vertebral body (SC : VB) of the cervical spinal cord was significant lower at 4 months but the lumbar spinal cord showed lower pattern at 12 months old miniature pigs.
Dental imaging characterization of micropigs
Lee, Hyeyeon,Choi, Mihyun,Chang, Jinhwa,Jung, Joohyun,Kim, Mieun,Lee, Namsoon,Kim, Junyoung,Choi, Mincheol The Korean Society of Veterinary Science 2010 大韓獸醫學會誌 Vol.50 No.4
Recently the micropig has been developed as human disease model. The dental and orofacial region of micropig is similar to that of humans, so it has been used for testing implant materials and techniques. The purpose of this study is on dental image at each age using radiography and computed tomography. Total twenty-two male micropigs, two or three animals of each 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months old, were given radiographic examinations. After general anesthesia, extra- and intra-oral radiographic technique and computed tomographic scans were performed to assess the dental characterization of micropigs. The total deciduous dental formula comprised 28 teeth and was depicted as Di 3/3, Dc 1/1, Dp 3/3. The total permanent dental formula comprised 44 teeth and was depicted as I 3/3, C 1/1, P 4/4, M 3/3. Hypodontia of the first premolars was common in the micropig. The permanent teeth erupted from 3 to 24 month after birth. The sequence of eruption of the permanent teeth was M1, P1, I3, C, M2, I1 + P3 + P4, P2, I2, M3. Dental imaging enables visualization of the unerupted teeth and gives more information about the development of the teeth. The growth pattern of the teeth obtained through radiographic and computed tomographic examination provides basic data in the micropig as animal model for dental research.

Background/Aims: With the wide application of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) for hepatitis C virus infection, the number of patients achieving a sustained virologic response (SVR) will continue to increase. However, no consensus has been achieved on exempting SVR-achieving patients from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance. Methods: Between 2013 and 2021, 873 Korean patients who achieved SVR following DAA treatment were analyzed. We evaluated the predictive performance of seven noninvasive scores (PAGE-B, modified PAGE-B, Toronto HCC risk index, fibrosis-4, aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index, albumin-bilirubin, and age male albumin-bilirubin platelet [aMAP]) at baseline and after SVR. Results: The mean age of the 873 patients (39.3% males) was 59.1 years, and 224 patients (25.7%) had cirrhosis. During 3,542 person-years of follow-up, 44 patients developed HCC, with an annual incidence of 1.24/100 person-years. Male sex (adjusted hazard ratio [AHR], 2.21), cirrhosis (AHR, 7.93), and older age (AHR, 1.05) were associated with a significantly higher HCC risk in multivariate analysis. The performance of all scores at the time of SVR were numerically better than those at baseline as determined by the integrated area under the curve. Time-dependent area under the curves for predicting the 3-, 5-, and 7-year risk of HCC after SVR were higher in mPAGE-B (0.778, 0.746, and 0.812, respectively) and aMAP (0.776, 0.747, and 0.790, respectively) systems than others. No patients predicted as low-risk by the aMAP or mPAGE-B systems developed HCC. Conclusions: aMAP and mPAGE-B scores demonstrated the highest predictive performance for de novo HCC in DAA-treated, SVR-achieving patients. Hence, these two systems may be used to identify low-risk patients that can be exempted from HCC surveillance.

Objectives:We aimed to investigate the prevalence of Extrapyramidal signs (EPS) and the associations between EPS and cognitive subdomains in patients with Alzheimer disease (AD). Methods:We recruited 1,324 patients with AD from the Clinical Research of Dementia of South Korea (CREDOS), a hospital based cohort study with fifty-six participating hospitals. We estimated cognitive subdomain using the Seoul Neuropsychological Screening Battery-Dementia version (SNSB-D). Dementia severity was measured by Clinical Dementia Rating Sum of Boxes (CDR- SB) and Korean version of Mini-Mental Status Examination (K-MMSE). The EPS group was defined by the presence of at least one EPS based on a focused neurologic examination. Results:The prevalence of patients with EPS was 11%. These had higher CDR-SB scores than non-EPS group. After controlling for demographic, radiological, and dementia severity (CDR-SB) factors, EPS group showed lower cognitive ability in the subdomains for visuospatial and frontal-executive function than non-EPS group. The patients with EPS were showed significantly higher scores in the subdomain for memory function. Conclusion:The presence of EPSs in patients with AD was associated with lower visuospatial, frontal-executive function and higher memory function.
