This paper presented surge protective method and devices for shipboard electrical and electronics devices. Parallel type surge protective devices (SPD) for the 440 [V] and a series type SPD for the 220 [V] rated voltage were designed and fabricated. The performance were evaluated by an un-powered test which applies the 8/20 [㎲] surge current Lip to 10 [㎄]. The maximum clamping voltage of the parallel and the series type SPD were 1,032 [V] and 875 [V], respectively.

The effect of hydrogen charging methods on the hydrogen embrittlement characteristics of tempered martensitic steels were discussed in terms of hydrogen diffusion behavior. Two tempered martensitic steels with different Si content were fabricated by quenching and tempering. The steel with high Si content had a lower cementite fraction because the addition of Si changed the morphology of cementite from a long film-like shape to a short-rod shape by suppressing the precipitation and growth of the cementite. To evaluate the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of the two tempered martensitic steels with different Si content, slow strain-rate tensile testing was employed after introducing hydrogen using three types of hydrogen charging methods (ex-situ electrochemical hydrogen charging, in-situ electrochemical hydrogen charging, and in-situ high-pressure gaseous hydrogen environment). For the hydrogen pre-charged tensile specimens using the ex-situ electrochemical charging method, the steel with high Si content had a better hydrogen embrittlement resistance, with a higher relative reduction in area. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in the relative notch tensile strength of the two tempered martensitic steels with different Si content, regardless of the hydrogen charging methods. In addition, the ex-situ hydrogen charging method exhibited higher relative notch tensile strength compared to the in-situ hydrogen charging method due to the release of hydrogen during the tensile test, after exsitu hydrogen charging. This implies that hydrogen embrittlement resistance can be differently estimated depending on the kind of hydrogen charging methods.

The expanded multi-Gaussian beam model has recently been developed that can calculate the radiation beam field from a single, rectangular transducer with great computational efficiency. In this study, this model is adopted to calculate the radiation beam field for a phased array transducer with various time delays to achieve steering and/or focusing. The calculation beam fields are compared to those obtained by well known Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integral that provides the exact solution in order to explore the validity of the expanded multi-Gaussian beam model And then, this study proposes a complete ultrasonic measurement model including the expanded beam model, far-field scattering model and system efficiency, Using the proposed model, phased array ultrasonic testing signals for a flat-bottomed hole with/without focusing were performed.

Alkaloid producing species of plants have long been a major component of the medicinal social and magico-religious aspects of human culture. A diverse array of biological activities has been attributed to different alkaloids including numerous members of benzylisoquinoline family of alkaloids. For biotechnological approaches of alkaloid biosynthesis in poppy family, plant regeneration protocol through somatic embryogenesis or shoot organogenesis is a first step. This paper describes the methods and applications of plant regeneration of poppy family.

Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT

Physical activity, such as muscle strengthening and aerobic exercise, has been found to be effective for low back pain (LBP). However, the association between weekly walking duration and LBP in the general population remains poorly understood.

OBJECT

This study aimed (1) to analyze the association between walking and LBP and (2) to examine this association according to walking duration and overall walking days per week in a general population over 50years of age using a representative sample of Korean adults.

STUDY DESIGN

Cross-sectional study.

PATIENT SAMPLE

Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys V and VI, performed from 2010 to 2015.

OUTCOME MEASURES

Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the association between walking days and duration and LBP. Analysis was restricted to participants aged over 50years who responded to surveys on LBP and walking activity.

METHODS

National health and nutrition examination surveys were performed in the Korean general population (N=48,482) from 2010 to 2015. LBP status was surveyed using a self-reported questionnaire form (“Have you complained of LBP for more than 30days during the past 3 months?”). Daily walking activity (low-intensity activity) was evaluated using the following two questions: (1) “During the last 7days, on how many days did you walk for at least 10 minutes at a time? This includes at work and at home, walking to travel from place to place, and any other walking that you have done solely for recreation, sport, exercise, or leisure.” (2) “How much time did you usually spend walking on each of those days?” Walking duration per day was classified into two categories: over 30min/day and over 1h/day. Overall walking days per week were categorized into <3, 3–4, and ≥5days/week. Basic characteristics, comorbidities, socioeconomic status, and other variables were used to create multiple logistic regression models. No sources of funding and no conflicts of interest were associated with this study.

RESULTS

Walking for more than 3days per week for over 30 minutes at a time was negatively associated with LBP in the unadjusted (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 0.65, p<.001) and fully adjusted logistic regression models (aOR: 0.79, p<.001). Similarly, walking for more than 5days per week for over 1 hour at a time was negatively associated with LBP in the unadjusted (aOR: 0.62, p<.001) and fully adjusted logistic regression models (aOR: 0.76, p<.001). The risk of LBP decreased with increasing walking days and duration.

CONCLUSIONS

Our study showed that longer walking duration was associated with a lower risk of LBP using a cross-sectional health survey in the Korean general population. Regular walking with a longer duration for more than 3days/week is significantly associated with a lower risk of LBP in the general population aged over 50years.

Controversies exist regarding the need for prophylactic extraction of mandibular third molars in patients who plan to undergo orthognathic surgery. An 18-year-old male patient was diagnosed with mandibular prognathism and maxillary retrognathism with mild facial asymmetry. He had a severely damaged mandibular first molar and a horizontally impacted third molar. After extraction of the first molar, the second molar was protracted into the first molar space, and the third molar erupted into the posterior line of occlusion. The orthognathic surgery involved clockwise rotation of the maxil-lomandibular complex as well as angle shaving and chin border trimming. Patients who are missing or have damaged mandibular molars should be monitored for eruption of third molars to replace the missing posterior tooth regardless of the timing of orthognathic surgery.
