Folate-modified PLGA nanoparticles for tumor-targeted delivery of pheophorbide a <i>in vivo</i>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Targeted drug delivery has been an important issue for tumor therapy including photodynamic therapy (PDT). The purpose of our study is to increase the targeting efficiency of photosensitizer (PS) using folate-modified nanoparticles (NPs) to tumor site <I>in vivo</I>. Folate receptor is over-expressed on the surface of many human cancer cells. We prepared poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) NPs containing pheophorbide a (Pba), a PS that is used in PDT and generates free radical for killing cancer cells. The surface of NPs was composed of phospholipids modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and folate (FA). The size of the resulting FA-PLGA-Pba NPs was about 200 nm in PBS at pH 7.4 and they were stable for long time. They showed faster cellular uptake to MKN28 human gastric cancer cell line than control PLGA-Pba NPs by high-affinity binding with folate receptors on cell surface. In MTT assay, FA-PLGA-Pba NPs also showed enhanced tumor cell killing compared to control PLGA-Pba NPs. <I>In vivo</I> and <I>ex vivo</I> imaging showed high accumulation of FA-PLGA-Pba NPs in tumor site during 24 h after intravenous injection to MKN28 tumor-bearing mice model. 장소 정체성 함양을 위한 지역사회 연계 미술교육 프로그램 개발 및 실행 연구

본 연구는 장소 정체성 함양을 위한 지역사회 연계 미술교육 프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과성을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 선행 문헌 검토를 통해 프로그램 설계 원리 및 9차시의 수업 커리큘럼을 개발하였으며, 서울 K구 지역에 거주하는 중학생 1학년 4명을 대상으로 프로그램을 실행하였다. 학생들은 ‘나의 역사가 담긴 그림 자서전’ 제작과 함께, ‘우리의 역사가 담긴 마을 자서전’을 주제로 지역 주민들과 소통할 수 있는 관객 참여형 작품을 기획하였으며, 개인 작품과 공동 작품 모두 5일간 K구청 관할 갤러리에 전시하였다. 수업의 효과성 분석을 위해 참여 학생을 대상으로 수업 및 전시 참여 경험에 대한 반구조화된 인터뷰를 2회 실시하였다. 또한, 수업 산출물, 개인 작품과 관객 참여형 작품에 드러난 장소 표현 방식을 질적으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 학생 및 관객들은 장소와 관련된 감정을 추상적으로 표현하는 것보다 인물, 사물 등의 사실적 표현을 통해 장소에 대한 정보를 객관적으로 전달하는 것을 선호하였으며, 주변인과의 상호작용을 중심으로 장소를 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 관객 참여형 작품을 통해 지역사회에 대한 인식은 가족, 친구, 지역 주민들로 확장하였으며, 학생들은 나와 지역사회에 대한 인식 변화를 체험하며 지역사회에 대한 애착감을 형성할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 지역사회 연계 미술교육의 핵심 요소인 ‘장소 정체성’에 주목하여 이를 함양할 수 있는 구체적인 교육 프로그램을 개발하였다는 점에 의미가 있다. This study aims to develop and analyze the effectiveness of a community-based art education program for fostering place identity. Through a review of the previous literature, principles for program design and a nine-session curriculum were developed. The program was implemented with four first-year middle school students living in the K district of Seoul. The students created ‘Autobiographies in Art’ reflecting their personal histories and planned audience-participatory artworks under the theme ‘Community Autobiography’ to communicate with local residents. Both individual and collective works were exhibited for five days at a gallery managed by the K district office. To analyze the effectiveness of the program, semi-structured interviews were conducted twice with participating students regarding their experiences in the classes and exhibition. Additionally, the class outputs and the ways in which places were represented in both individual and audience-participatory artworks were qualitatively analyzed. The analysis revealed that both students and audiences preferred conveying information about places through realistic depictions of people and objects rather than abstract expression of emotions. They also tended to perceive places through interactions with surrounding people. The audience-participatory artworks expanded their awareness of the community to include family, friends, and local residents, and the students experienced changes in their perception of themselves and the community, leading to a stronger attachment to their community. This study is significant in that it focuses on ‘place identity’, a core element of community-based art education, and develop a specific educational program to foster it.

In children, large odontogenic cysts affect adjacent anatomical structures as well as displace developing permanent teeth. Odontogenic cysts are treated via enucleation or marsupialization. This case reports a 5-year-old boy and a 10-year-old boy who have not only displaced 3 or more permanent teeth but also elevated the maxillary sinus floor due to the large size of the cyst in the maxillary anterior region. In both cases, marsupialization was selected to minimize complications. After marsupialization, a customized acrylic obturator, window opening, and orthodontic traction for eruption guidance were gradually attempted, and it showed a good prognosis, so we report these cases.
Comparative analysis of yeast cell viability at exponential and stationary growth phases

This paper describes a comparative analysis of yeast cell viability at exponential and stationary growth phases using multiple conventional techniques and statistical tools. Overall, cellular responses to various viability assays were asynchronous. Results of optical density measurement and direct cell counting were asynchronous both at exponential and stationary phases. Proliferative capacity measurement using SP-SDS indicated that cells at the end of the stationary phase were proliferative as much as exponentially growing cells. Metabolic activity assays using two different dyes concluded that the inside of cells at stationary phase is slightly less reducing compared to that of exponentially growing cells, implying that the metabolic activity imperceptibly declined as cells were aged. These results will be helpful to understand the details of yeast cell viability at exponential and stationary growth phases.
