        Background : Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction is now recognized as a significant cause of cardiac symptoms even in patient with normal systolic ventricular function. During the last several years, the use of Doppler echocardiography for assessing left ventricular diastolic function has attracted increased attention. Doppler study have demonstrated that patients with ischemic heart disease have abnormal diastolic filling pattern suggesting impaired relaxation. Methods : This study was designed to correlate Doppler mitral flow velocity patterns and measuared variance with hemodynamic findings in 33 patients: 10 with myocardial infarction(group 1), 10 with angina pectoris(group 2) and 13 with no coronary disease(group 3). Results: 1. E/A ratio (0.87±0.24 m/sec versus 1.09±0.91 m/sec, P<0.05) was lower in group 1 than in group 3. 2. Significant correlation were demonstrated between pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) and isovolumic relaxation time(IVRT) (r=-0.58; p<0.001), and E velocity (r=0.61; p<0.005). 3. IVRT was (61±30msec versus 92±35msec, p<0.05) shorter in patients with PCWP>10mmHg than in patients with PCWP≤10mmHg. Conclusion: Doppler mitral flow recordings have partially clinical potentiality in assessing left ventricalar diastolic function in patient with ischmic heart disease.

        This paper aims at providing a concrete plan to improve technical and vocational teacher education in the College of Industrial Education of Chungnam National University. It is intended to propose a practical four-year regular and short-term course. Also, the estimated required facilities is included in this study as well as their management. The main conclusions and recommendations are summarized as follows; 1) The numbers of students enrollment should be reduced to 220 students which is the approximate number of future demand. 2) In order to offer to the students a broader education and to cope with the increase/decrease in demand of technical and vocational teacher within a specific field, the 8 department existing at the present (Department of Architecture Engineering Education, Civil Eng. Educ., Metallurgical Eng. Educ., Mechanical Eng. .Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Electronic Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.) would be combined into 5 (Department of Construction Engineering Education, Mechanical Eng. Educ., Electrical Eng. Educ., Industrial Chemistry Educ. and Industrial Technology Educ.). 3) The short-term course program is recommened to provide additional training and education to those candidates who already have experience in technical fields to meet an occasional demand. 4) It is necessary to add the Teaching Profession Section in the administrative organization of the College.

      • 항공 예약을 위한 실시간 음성 인식기 구현

        현재 항공기 예약 시스템을 사용하기 위해서 사용자는 전화, 인터넷 들을 이용하고 있다. 이러한 시스템은 상호 인터페이상의 제약에 따른 불편함이 있다. 본 논문은 음성 인식 기술을 바탕으로 보다 쉽고, 편리하게 항공기 예약 시스템을 사용할수 잇도록 실시간 인식기를 구현하였다. 음성 DB(database)는 인터넷상 예약 모델 시나리오에 기초하여 70여개의 단어에 대하여 5명의 화자에 대하여 20번씩 발음한 것을 이용하였다. code-book은 tri-phone을 기반으로 작성 하였으며,인식 속도의 향상을 위하여 인식 어휘에 따라 4종류로 code-book을 분리하여 5명의 훈련화자에 대해서는 선택 출발 도착지별 99.41%, 예매 인원수별 90.13%, 월별 74.17%, 일별 86.21%의 인식률을 얻었으며,테스트 화자(2명의 화자가 70여개의 단어에 대하여 5번씩 발음)에 대해서는 선택 출발 도착지별 97.47%, 예매 인원수별 90.00%, 월별 48.33%, 일별 75.48%의 인식률을 얻었다. Usually a user makes a reservation of airplane, through phone or internet etc. This brings some inconvenience such as restriction of mutual interface. This paper studies a realtime speech recognizer by which user conveniently makes use of aircraft It reservation system. We construct a speech database, which is based on the scenario of the reservation model in the Internet service, by recording 70 words pronounced by 5 speakers 20 times. Also for improving the recognition speed, we compose the code-book with four parts(departure and arrival, head count, month, and day). Then the recognition rates of 5 trained speakers are99.41% for departure and arrival section, 90.13% for the head count in advance purchase,74.17% for a month, and 86.21% for a day, and ones of 2 test speakers are 97.47%, 90.00%,48.33%, and 75.48%, respectively.

      • 대용량 음성 인식을 위한 Parser 연구

        본 논문에서는 대용량 연속음성 인식에서 시스템의 성능 향상을 위해 음성인식 후처리 과정 중 구문분석을 위한 파서(Parser)를 구현하였다. 과싱(Parsing)을 위한 문법으로는 자유 어순의 언어인 한국어 특성에 적합한 '중심어 주도 구구조 문법(HPSG)을 사용하였으며, 한국어의 문장에 대한 구조적 측면에서 서술어의 형식과 성질에 따른 결합 문행을 제시하였다. 현태소 분석을 위한 인식엔진으로는 한양대학교 제어계측공학과 ROSP 연구실, 물리학과 음향학 연구실(FSL)에서 개발한 '한양 한국어 형태소 분석기(H2MA)'의 엔진을 사용하였다. 실험을 위해 문형에 따른 문장과 합성 동사문을 포함한 총 110여 문장이 사용되었다. 실험 결과 이중 주어문과 합성 동사문 을 포함한 단문의 경우 91.82%의 인식률을 얻었다. In this paper, we construct Parser for sentence analysis in order to improve performance of Large-vocabulary continuous speech recognition system. We use HPSG which is suitable for Korean of its partially-free word order characteristics, as a grammar for Parsing. We propose a combination of sentence pattern and characteristic of predicate in structural for Korean sentence. As recognition engine for Morpheme analysis, we use H2MA developed by ROSP laboratory and FSL laboratory in Hanyang University. As a result, we obtain the recognition rate 91.82% about short sentences including double subjects and synthesize verb sentences.

      • 水稻 遠緣品種들의 登熟期間中 葉身老化, 米粒發達및 그 品種間 差異

        To elucidate the characteristics of leaf senescence in relation to the development of rice grain, course of change in the content of chlorophylls, soluble protein, and total phenolics, course of increase in dry weight of rice caryopsis, and their interrelationships were studied, using Jinheung, a typical Japonica variety, T(N)-1, an Indica, IR 1317-266-34 and Suwon No. 256, Indica×Japonica progenies. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The variety T(N)-1 and IR 1317-266-34 showed a sigmoidal time course of the rice caryopsis development in dry weight in contrast to the continuous increase in the dry weight of rice caryopsis to 40 days after heading in the variety Jinheung and Suwon No. 256. 2. The chlorophyll content of leaf blades decreased during the course of grain development; the degree of decrease in the chlorophyll content being the highest in the IR 1317-266-34 and being the lowest in the Suwon No. 256. 3. Total pheonolics content of the leaf blades increased during the course of grain development, showing varietal difference in the accumulation pattern: major accumulation occurred during 30 to 35 days after heading in the Jinheung and IR 1317-266-34 in contrast to a rather linear increase after heading in the Suwon No. 256 and T(N)-1. 4. The content of soluble protein of the leaf blades decreased during the course of grain development in all varieties tested except for the Suwon No. 256, which showed some increase in the flag leaf during the first 15 days after heading and little decrease in other leaves during the later period. 5. Significant positive correlationship existed between the chlorophyll content and the soluble protein content of leaf blades during their senescence, r value being ??, ??, ??, ??, respectively for the Jinheuing, T(N)-1, Suwon No. 256, and IR 1317-266-34.

      • 水稻 遠緣品種들의 葉綠體 色素系 組成 및 그와 花靑素含量의 登熟期間中 變化

        The chloroplast pigment composition, its change and anthocyanins development during grain ripening were studied in relation to the reddish discoloration and earlier leaf senescence prominent in the Indica × Japonica cross varieties, using Jinheung, a Japonica, T(N)-1, an Indica, IR1317 and Suwon No. 256, Indica × Japonica progenies. 1. Chloroplast pigments of rice leaf blade were composed of β-carotene (Rf 0.898), pheophytin a (Rf 0.616), lutein (Rf 0.477), chlorophyll a′(Rf 0.398), chlorophyll a (Rf 0.323), chlorophyll b′(Rf 0.247), chlorophyll b (Rf 0.198), violaxanthin (Rf 0.101), neoxanthin (Rf 0.037) as separated on thin layer of silica gel with 5% binder, employing solvent system developed in this experiment of petroleum ether: acetone=4:1(v/v) and identified on the basis of their absorption spectra after elution. 2. All of the pigments were present in all varieties tested throughout the course of leaf senscence after heading. But, there was distinct varietal difference in the relative content of the pigments: the greatest variation among varieties existed in the content of neoxanthin (C.V.=57%) and the least in the content of chlorophyll b (C.V.=5%). 3. The total content of carotenoid pigments relative to that of chlorophyll a decreased in the variety T(N)-1 and Suwon No. 256 during 20 days after heading, while it increased in the variety Jinheung and IR1317-266-34 during the same period. The increase shown in the variety Jinheung was mainly due to increase in the relative content of β-carotene and lutein, and in the variety IR1317-266-34 it was due to β-carotene, violaxanthin and neoxanthin. 4. Fast decrease in the chlorophyll content occurred during the first 10 days after heading in the variety T(N)-1 and IR1317-266-34 in contrast to later and gradual decrease in the variety Jinheung and Suwon No. 256. 5. Total anthocyanins content of the leaf blade began to increase at about 5 days after heading in the variety Suwon No. 256 and at about 20 days in the variety Jinheung, IR1317-266-34 and T(N)-1. The fastest accumulation occurred at 20-25 days after heading in the variety Jinheung and IR1317-266-34, 25-30 days in the variety T(N)-1, 30-35 days in the variety Suwon No. 256. With respect to variety the order of magnitude in the maximum content shown after heading was T(N)-1<Suwon No. 256<Jinheung<IR1317-266-34. 6. Highly significant negative correlationship was found between the contents of chlorophyll and total anthocyanins during the course of leaf senescence in the variety Jinheung (??), IR1317-266-34 (??) and T(N)-1 (??), but such a correlation was not observed in the variety Suwon No. 256 (??).

        Comparison of Fusion with Cage Alone and Plate Instrumentation in Two-Level Cervical Degenerative Disease

        Objective : This study assessed the efficacy of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with cage alone compared with ACDF with plate instrumentation for radiologic and clinical outcomes in two-level cervical degenerative disease. Methods : Patients with cervical degenerative disc disease from September 2004 to December 2009 were assessed retrospectively. A total of 42 patients received all ACDF at two-level cervical lesion. Twenty-two patients who underwent ACDF with cage alone were compared with 20 patients who underwent ACDF with plate fixation in consideration of radiologic and clinical outcomes. Clinical outcomes were assessed using Robinson's criteria and posterior neck pain, arm pain described by a 10 point-visual analog scale. Fusion rate, subsidence, kyphotic angle, instrument failure and the degenerative changes in adjacent segments were examined during each follow-up examination. Results : VAS was checked during each follow-up and Robinson's criteria were compared in both groups. Both groups showed no significant difference. Fusion rates were 90.9% (20/22) in ACDF with the cage alone group, 95% (19/20) in ACDF with the plate fixation group (p = 0.966). Subsidence rates of ACDF with cage alone were 31.81% (7/22) and ACDF with plate fixation were 30% (6/20) (p = 0.928). Local and regional kyphotic angle difference showed no significant difference. At the final follow-up, adjacent level disease developed in 4.54% (1/22) of ACDF with cage alone and 10% (2/20) of ACDF with plate fixation (p= 0.654). Conclusion : In two-level ACDF, ACDF with cage alone would be comparable with ACDF with plate fixation with regard to clinical outcome and radiologic result with no significant difference. We suggest that the routine use of plate and screw in 2-level surgery may not be beneficial.

      • Effects of simultaneous ultraviolet and thermal treatments on physical and chemical properties of RF-sputtered p-type SnO thin-films

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, simultaneous ultraviolet and thermal (SUT) treatment is proposed as an effective post-deposition treatment technique to lower the annealing temperature required for the formation of p-type SnO thin-films. The chemical, electrical, and optical properties of the radio-frequency (RF)-sputtered SnO<SUB>X</SUB> thin-films subjected to the conventional thermal and SUT treatments at different temperatures (as-deposited, 125 °C, 150 °C, 175 °C, and 200 °C) were investigated using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Hall measurements, and ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectroscopy. The experimental results revealed that the p-type SnO was the dominant phase of the SnO<SUB>X</SUB> thin-film after SUT treatment at 150 °C, which is considerably lower than the annealing temperature of 200 °C required for the formation of the p-type SnO thin-film using the conventional thermal annealing process. The observed phenomenon can be attributed to the reactive oxygen radicals produced by ultraviolet irradiation during the SUT treatment. The proposed post-deposition SUT treatment technique in this work may be useful in various applications that require the formation of p-type SnO thin-films using a low-temperature process.</P>

      • A Comparative Study of The Implants Used in The Management of Blowout Fracture

        We developed an animal model to recreate the condition of an open fracture in communication with the maxillary sinus. We then studied wound healing of the sinus wall structures following fracture in the presence of autogenous bone and alloplastic implant. This model is designed to simulate the repair of an orbital floor fracture in humans. The New Zealand White rabbit was used as the animal model. Standardized 8mm defects were made bilaterally in the maxillary sinuses to include bone and mucosa in 36 rabbits. Two different implants and autogenous calvarial bone graft were placed in the soft-tissue pockets to obdurate the defects, exposing one surface of the implant to the open sinus. Medpor□ porous polyethylene, silicone and calvarial bone implant were compared. Animals were killed at 1, 2, and 8 weeks after implantation. Gross examination of the specimens for the amount of mucosal closure and implant tissue fixation was performed. Histological sections were evaluated for bone and soft-tissue morphology juxtaposed to the implant. Complete closure of the mucosal defect was demonstrated with each type of implant. Medpor□ implants showed both vascular and soft-tissue ingrouwth into pores by week 1. Bone ingrowth was seen by week 2. Closure of the Medpor□ oibturated defects occurred more rapidly than in the silicone group. The Medpor implants and calvirial bone demonstrated bone and soft-tissue fixation, callus formation and maturation, while mature overlying mucosa was reconstituted over the defects. Silicone implants demeonstrated a fibrous tissue reaction within 1week of implantation and they never became fixed to bone or soft tissue. Maxillary sinus wall regeneration occurred in all defects. This study supports clinical observations of maxillary sinus wall regeneretion in humans. (Journal of the Korean Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons 106:470-476, 1999)

      • Rapid and Reliable Measurement for Evaluating Directly the Reactivity of N-Acetylcysteine with Glucose Degradation Products in Peritoneal Dialysis Fluids

        In this report, we analyzed the reactivity of N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) with glucose degradation products (GDPs) and the stability of NAC in peritoneal dialysis fluids (PDFs) using RP-HPLC and LC-ESI-TOF-MS. NAC reduced the amount of 3,4-dideoxyglucosone-3-ene (3,4-DGE), most toxic among GDPs in PDFs by forming NAC−DGE conjugate under nonenzymatic conditions. NAC was retained as a reduced monomer form in the high-glucose compartment of dual-chambered neutral-pH type PDF, whereas it easily formed a homodimer in an incubation-time-dependent manner in other solutions. The present investigation suggests that NAC can be employed as an adjuvant added into the high-glucose compartment of neutral-pH type PDFs (N-PDF) to reduce GDP-mediated peritoneal membrane failure in patients on long-term peritoneal dialysis (PD) treatment.
