A study on elemental speciation of trace metals in lake water (Lake Biwa in Japan) has been carried out by a size exclusion chromatography (SEC) / inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) system. Before analysis, the water sample was preconcentrated with a ultrafiltration technique, where the large molecules with molecular weight larger than 10,000 were concentrated. Then the preconcentrated water samples (500-1000 fold) were analyzed by a SEC/ICP-MS system. Most trace metals were found at the UV absorption peaks corresponding to the molecular weights of ca. 300,000 and 10,000-50,000, where trace metals were on-line detected by ICP-MS. The results suggest that many of trace metals exist as the large organic molecules-metal complexes in natural water.
A minute phase difference measurement circuit with OTA

In this paper, we proposed a new minute phase difference measurement circuit. The conventional circuit is composed of OPA (Operational Amplifier). However, the amplitude adjustment is manual and measurement time is long. The proposed circuit is composed of the minute phase difference measurement circuit with OTA (Operational Transconductance Amplifier), and the automatic amplitude adjustment circuit with FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). And the measurement time of proposed circuit will be short. The performance of the proposed circuit is evaluated by Verilog-XL simulation. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed circuit is able to the automatic amplitude adjustment, and measurement time is short.

We have developed a two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) program for simulating nonlinear optical response of nano metal cylinders coated with a Kerr material which is related to localized surface plasmons. In FDTD calculations, we have employed cylindrical coordinates.For comparison, linear and nonlinear results obtained by the local subcell method in rectangular coordinates will be given. Finally, we have obtained an optical bistability of the field intensity at a nano Ag cylinder coated with a Kerr material.
