        The parasitic copepod. Caligus chanos parasitized on labridae fish around MunSum. Cheju Island, have been basically studied form Sep.. 1996 to Aug.. 1997. Parasitic pattern and water temperatures have a close relationship. which is high in June and low form Feb. to Apr.. Fishes of main hosts were Pseudolabrus japonicus and Pteragogus Ragellifer. Parasitic copepods prefer the body and tail of the host to the head, and prefer adult host to juveniles or older one.

        노인 특발성 렘수면행동장애 환자에서 보이는 자율신경증상과 그 관련 요인

        Objectives:Idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is by far the strongest clinical predictor of neurodegenerative disease available. Several potential early diagnostic markers of neurodegenerative disease including autonomic symptoms have been proposed, but they have generally not been tested in presymptomatic neurodegenerative disease. So the authors investigated autonomic symptoms and their associated factors in idiopathic RBD patients. Methods:52 idiopathic RBD patients and 52 controls participated in the study. Autonomic symptoms were evaluated by applying the unified multiple system atrophy rating scale (UMSARS) and measuring orthostatic systolic blood pressure drop. Results:Idiopathic RBD patients showed significantly higher UMSARS subscale scores and sharper drop of orthostatic systolic blood pressure than controls. In multiple linear regression analysis, all autonomic symptoms and measured orthostatic systolic blood pressure drop were associated with RBD. In addition, orthostatic symptoms were associated with medication and age, urinary function was associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, and measured orthostatic systolic blood pressure drop was associated with hypertension. Conclusion:In this study, idiopathic RBD patients showed more autonomic symptoms than controls. However, other autonomic symptoms-related factors also influenced some autonomic symptoms. Prospective studies should be performed to evaluate autonomic symptoms as a potential predictor of neurodegenerative diseases.

        제주도 북방 함덕 연안역의 자치어출현

        제주도 북방 함덕 연안역의 자치어 출현양상을 파악하기 위하여 1989년 4월부터 1990년 3월까지 매월 1회씩 채집하였다. 전체 조사기간동안 27科, 35屬, 64種이 채집되었다. 채집된 자치어의 출현 종수는 8월에 21종으로 최고를, 12월에 5종으로 최소를 보였고 개체수는 2월에 최대치(485개체, 전체의 34.6%), 12월에 최소치(16개체, 1.2%)를 보였다. 중복 출현을 제외한, 출현종 및 개체수는 각각 봄철과 여름철에 높고 겨울철에는 모두 낮게 나타났다. 정점별로는 만내정점에서의 출현종(만내종)이 많았고 그 중에서도 바깥쪽보다는 만의 중심부와 해안 가까운 곳에서 높게 나타났다. 본 조사에서는 까나리(2-3월), 고등어(9-3월), 멸치(8-11월), 가막베도라치(6-9월)등이 각 시기별로 우점 출현하고 있었다. Fish larvae were collected monthly from coastal water around Hamduck, northern part of Cheju Island from April 1989 to March 1990. During the study period, a total of sixty four species, representing 35 genera and 27 families, were observed. of these 4 species appeared to be major groups which comprised about 66% of total fish larvae abundance, including Ammodytes personatus (February-March), Scomber japonicus(September-March), Enneapterygius etheostomus(June-September), and Engraulis japonica(August-November). Seasonally, the maximun numbers of species and individuals appeared in summer and in spring, and in summer, respectively, while the minima numbers of species and individuals appeared in winter. Inshore species were composed of 44 species(62.9%)and 557 individuals(70.4%), which were much higher both in the species numbers and individuals than those of offshore species.

        2 . 실비늘치(Aulichthys japonicus Brevoort)의 성장 , 산란 및 식성

        제주도 북방 함덕연안 잘피밭에 서식하는 실비늘치 (Aulichthys japonicus)의 성장과정, 산란시기 및 섭이습성을 조사하였다. 시료의 채집은 1993년 5월부터 1994년 5월까지 소형 beam trawl을 사용하였다. 체장빈도분포조사에서 실비늘치는 3월에 처음 자어가 출현하여 꾸준히 성장을 지속하고 다음해 5월에 이르러 거의 모든 성어가 사라지는 것으로 나타났다. 생식소 중량지수(GWI)와 비만도지수(K)조사에서 수컷의 생식소 중량지수와 비많도지수는 11월과 1월사이에 높고 암컷의 경우는 2월과 5월사이에 높았다. 성비조사에서 산란시기인 2월부터 암컷의 출현이 높아지기 시작하여 3월부터는 거의 전부가 암컷으로 구성되어 있었다. 섭이습성조사에서 출현한 먹이생물중 97%이상이 요각류였으며, 이중 Paracalanus, Oithona, Acartia, Oncaea 및 Harpacticoidae 등 1㎜전후의 소형요각류를 주로 섭이하고 있었으나, 주산란기에는 3㎜이상인 Calanus, Euchaeta 및 십각류 유생 등의 섭이율도 높았다. 주간과 야간의 섭이습성의 차이는 크지 않았으며, 주·야간 및 체장증가에 따른 섭이율의 변화는 주간에 평균 1.60, 야간에는 평균 1.90이었고, 체장증가에 따른 섭이율은 성숙기인 90∼120㎜에서 높게 나타났다. The spawning season, growth and feeding habit of tubesnout, Aulichthys japonicus were examined from the samples collected by a small beam trawl in the Zostera marina belt at the coastal water off Hamduck, Cheju Island, from May 1993 to May 1994. Tubesnout was the dominant species of overall 58 species collected in the study area throughout the year. The larvae and juvenile of tubesnout in the frequency distributions of body length began to appear in the Z. marina belt in March, and adults disappeared after May in the following year. The gonad weight index (GWI) and the condition factor (K) were high from November 1993 to January 1994 for males, while females were high from Febuary to May 1994. Although tubesnout is an oviparous fish, males have the urogenital papilla. These results suggest that they were fertilized between November and January, and then males seemed to be died or move into other places. Females were examined to spawn from February to May. The stomach contents of tubesnout were dominated by copepoda smaller than ca. 1㎜, Paracalanus, Oithona, Acartia, Oncaea and Harpacticoidae, accounting for 97% of total food items. The feeding habit of tubesnout did not vary by size. The fishes fed on Calanus, Euchaeta and decapoda larvae larger than ca. 3㎜ in March and April during the spawning season.

        Methylation of eukaryotic elongation factor 2 induced by basic fibroblast growth factor $via$ mitogen-activated protein kinase

        Protein arginine methylation is important for a variety of cellular processes including transcriptional regulation, mRNA splicing, DNA repair, nuclear/cytoplasmic shuttling and various signal transduction pathways. However, the role of arginine methylation in protein biosynthesis and the extracellular signals that control arginine methylation are not fully understood. Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) has been identified as a potent stimulator of myofibroblast dedifferentiation into fibroblasts. We demonstrated that symmetric arginine dimethylation of eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (eEF2) is induced by bFGF without the change in the expression level of eEF2 in mouse embryo fibroblast NIH3T3 cells. The eEF2 methylation is preceded by ras-raf-mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK)-extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK1/2)-$p21^{Cip/WAF1}$ activation, and suppressed by the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitor PD98059 and $p21^{Cip/WAF1}$ short interfering RNA (siRNA). We determined that protein arginine methyltransferase 7 (PRMT7) is responsible for the methylation, and that PRMT5 acts as a coordinator. Collectively, we demonstrated that eEF2, a key factor involved in protein translational elongation is symmetrically arginine-methylated in a reversible manner, being regulated by bFGF through MAPK signaling pathway.

        The impact fracture behaviors of CFRP/EVA composites by drop-weight impact test

        A drop weight impact test was conducted in this study to analyze the mechanical and thermal properties caused by the changes in the ratio of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) to ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) laminations. The ratios of CFRP to EVA were changed from 10:0 (pure CFRP) to 9:1, 8:2, 6:4, and 5:5 by manufacturing five different types of samples, and at the same time, the mechanical/thermal properties were analyzed with thermo-graphic images. As the ratio of the CFRP lamination was increased, in which the energy absorbance is dispersed by the fibers, it was more likely for the brittle failure mode to occur. In the cases of Type 3 through Type 5, in which the role of the EVA sheet is more prominent because it absorbs the impact energy rather than dispersing it, a clear form of puncture failure mode was observed. Based on the above results, it was found that all the observation values decreased as the EVA lamination increased compared with the CFRP lamination. The EVA lamination was thus found to have a very important role in reducing the impact. However, the strain and temperature were inversely propositional.

        Diatom frustule silica extracted from Melosira nummuloides ameliorates acetaminophen‑induced acute liver injury in mice

        Melosira nummuloides is a type of diatom in the family Melosiraceae. Diatoms are unicellular microalgae widely distributed in aquatic environments. Diatoms are known to be suitable for many industrial and biomedical applications because of their high biocompatibility and ease of use. In this study, we investigated the hepatoprotective effect of diatom frustule silica (DFS) extracted from Melosira nummuloides on hepatotoxicant-induced liver injury. Hepatoprotective effects of DFS were examined using acetaminophen-induced acute liver injury (ALI) mouse model. We evaluated the hepatoprotective effects through hepatotoxicity, pro-inflammatory cytokines, transcriptional factors, upstream signaling pathways, and histopathological analysis by DFS in an animal model of acetaminophen-induced ALI. Our results showed serum alanine aminotransferase/aspartate aminotransferase activity and hepatic malondialdehyde formation were significantly attenuated upon DFS administration. DFS also ameliorated glutathione depletion and down-regulated acetaminophen-induced CYP2E1. DFS administration also down-regulated expressions of pro-inflammatory cytokines through preventing NF-κB activation by JNK1/2 phosphorylation inhibition. These findings demonstrate that the hepatoprotective effect of DFS is associated with suppression of inflammatory responses in an animal model of acetaminophen-induced ALI.

      • Direct Observation of Current-induced Spin Accumulation in InAs Two-dimensional Electron Gas (2DEG) Structure

        The momentum and spin of electrons are coupled by spin-orbit interaction and this coupling plays an important role in spintronics. The Rashba and spin Hall effects are two of the most representative phenomena due to the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and conversion between charge and spin is possible by applying these effects. In this research, we investigated the spin-orbit coupling in InAs based two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) quantum well structure directly by using the magneto-optical method. We applied a charge current into the InAs 2DEG sample, and directly observed current-induced spin accumulation in InAs 2DEG due to the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) by using the magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE). As a result, both in-plane spin accumulation throughout the channel by Rashba-Edelstein effect and out-of-plane spin accumulation by spin Hall effect at the edges of the channel were confirmed.

        For semiconductor spintronics, efficient spin generation in semiconductor and spin transfer to ferromagnetic metal (FM) are essentially required. Two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) of semiconductor quantum wells is a promising system for generating spin via Rashba–Edelstein effect (REE) because of its strong inversion symmetry breaking. In this study, we investigate spin accumulation through REE and spin Hall effect (SHE) in the 2DEG of an InAs quantum well. We use spatial- and vector-resolved measurements of spin, which reveals that REE dominates SHE in 2DEG. Furthermore, REE in 2DEG induces a spin-orbit torque on FM in a 2DEG/insulator/FM heterostructure. Using vector- and time-resolved measurements of FM magnetization, we determine a sizeable field-like torque, which is attributed to the phonon-mediated spin transport from 2DEG to FM. 〈그림 본문참조〉

      • 순산소 연소조건에서 연소가스 재순환이 NO 생성에 미치는 영향

        Characteristics of nitric oxide (NO) production in coal-air(N₂/O₂)/oxy-fuel(CO₂/O₂) counterflow flames have been computationally studied with detailed chemistry and transport properties. The preheated air in coal combustion using the N₂/O₂ mixture gas cause a significant increase of nitric oxide emission due to higher temperature. The nitric oxide emission can be reduced efficiently by using CO₂/O₂ mixture gas instead of N₂/O₂ mixture gas. By combustion process, NO production was analyzed in detail with considering NO mechanisms which are thermal NO, fuel NO and prompt NO production. In order to understanding of the reaction paths of NO production and destruction correctly, overall reaction paths of respective NO mole fraction were described. In condition of CO₂/O₂ mixture gas, NO decomposition was observed for flue gas recirculation. The effect of detailed NO mechanism and fuel-N characteristics at flue gas recirculation were discussed.
