        Two-Step Oxidation of Refractory Gold Concentrates with Different Microbial Communities<sup>s</sup>

        Bio-oxidation is an effective technology for treatment of refractory gold concentrates. However, the unsatisfactory oxidation rate and long residence time, which cause a lower cyanide leaching rate and gold recovery, are key factors that restrict the application of traditional bio-oxidation technology. In this study, the oxidation rate of refractory gold concentrates and the adaption of microorganisms were analyzed to evaluate a newly developed two-step pretreatment process, which includes a high temperature chemical oxidation step and a subsequent bio-oxidation step. The oxidation rate and recovery rate of gold were improved significantly after the two-step process. The results showed that the highest oxidation rate of sulfide sulfur could reach to 99.01 % with an extreme thermophile microbial community when the pulp density was 5%. Accordingly, the recovery rate of gold was elevated to 92.51%. Meanwhile, the results revealed that moderate thermophiles performed better than acidophilic mesophiles and extreme thermophiles, whose oxidation rates declined drastically when the pulp density was increased to 10% and 15%. The oxidation rates of sulfide sulfur with moderate thermophiles were 93.94% and 65.73% when the pulp density was increased to 10% and 15%, respectively. All these results indicated that the twostep pretreatment increased the oxidation rate of refractory gold concentrates and is a potential technology to pretreat the refractory sample. Meanwhile, owing to the sensitivity of the microbial community under different pulp density levels, the optimization of microbial community in bio-oxidation is necessary in industry.

      • In Vitro Biological Characterization of DCUN1D5 in DNA Damage Response

        Background: Novel prognostic biomarkers or therapeutic molecular targets for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) are an urgent priority. We here sought to identify multiple novel LSCC-associated genes. Methods: Using high-density microarray expression profiling, we identified multiple genes that were significantly altered between human LSCCs and paired normal tissues. Potential oncogenic functions of one such gene, DCUN1D5, were further characterized in vitro. Results: Our results demonstrated that DCUN1D5 was highly expressed in LSCCs. Overexpression of DCUN1D5 in vitro resulted in 2.7-fold increased cellular migration, 67.5% increased invasive capacity, and 2.6-fold increased proliferation. Endogenous DCUN1D5 expression was decreased in a time-dependent manner after genotoxic stress, and silencing of DCUN1D5 by siRNA decreased the number of cells in the S phase by 10.2% and increased apoptosis by 11.7%. Conclusion: Our data suggest that DCUN1D5 in vitro might have vital roles in DNA damage response, but further studies are warranted to assess its significance in vivo.

        Estimating the Probability Density Function of Remaining Useful Life for Wiener Degradation Process with Uncertain Parameters

        The effective prediction of remaining useful life is essential to realize system failure diagnosis and health management. The existing researches often assume that the degradation model is constant or the degradation process is measurable. The accurate degradation model, however, usually can not be established, and the parametric variation and measurement error of the degradation process are unavoidable, which makes it hard to obtain the exact value for predicting the remaining useful life. Regarding this problem, on basis of the concept of first failure time, a real-time probability density function is derived for the Wiener degradation process with the uncertainty of parameters, the stochasticity of degradation process and the randomness of measurement error. The main steps are as follows: firstly, the degradation model with three kinds of uncertainties is established, and then the stochastic degradation state and the parameters of the uncertainty model are estimated by fusion Kalman/UFIR filter; then, the analytical expression of the probability density function of remaining useful life is deduced. Finally, the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by a group of comparison experiments and Monte Carlo simulations.

      • Formal Analysis of Automatic Train Protection and Block System for Regional Line Using VDM++

        This paper introduced a novel railway system, Automatic Train Protection and Block (ATPB) briefly, which is proposed to improve the efficiency of existing regional train lines with low cost in Japan. The biggest superiority of ATPB system is a great use of universal and mature technologies, such as GPS and regular mobile telephone networks, so that there is nearly no increment of trackside equipments in the reconstruction. Then in order to guarantee the system safety, a formal model of ATPB is established and analyzed by formal method VDM++. Firstly, the specification is specified by VDM++ formally without ambiguity. Secondly, its internal consistency is proved by discharging the proof obligations. And finally, its satisfiability is checked by systematic testing, which executes specification and checks the outputs against corresponding inputs.

        The effect of cyfluthrin on testis inhibin B in rats and the intervention of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide

        Background In recent years, studies have shown that cyfluthrin is harmful to the reproductive system. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide may be a protective agent. Objective To investigate the effect of cyfluthrin (Cy) on testosterone B (inhibin B, INHB) in male rats and the intervention of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP). Results Compared with the control group, the mRNA and protein expression levels of INH α and INH βB in the testis tissue decreased, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The LBP intervention group can significantly increase the expression level, and the difference is statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The decrease of INHα and INHβB expression caused by Cy exposure indicates that Cy has a toxic effect on the testis of rats, and the addition of LBP has a certain protective effect on the testis of rats.         Aminated cassava residue-based magnetic microspheres for Pb(II) adsorption from wastewater

        Aminated cassava residue magnetic microspheres (ACRPM) were synthesized via an inverse emulsion method by using chemically modified cassava residue as a crude material, and acrylic acid (AA), acrylamide (AM), and methyl methacrylate (MMA) as monomers and a polyethylene glycol/methanol system (PEG/MeOH) as the porogen. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption-desorption and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) were used to characterize the ACRPM. The results indicated that amino groups were grafted to the cassava residue magnetic microspheres, and the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were encapsulated in the microspheres. After porogen was added, the particle size of the ACRPM decreased from 16.5 μm to 150 nm with a pore volume of 0.05510m3/g, and the specific surface area of the ACRPM increased from 3.02 to 12.34m2/g. The ACRPM were superparamagnetic, and the saturation magnetization was 9.8 emu/g. The maximum adsorption capacity of Pb(II) on the ACRPM was 390mg/g. The ACRPM exhibited a large specific surface area and provided many adsorption sites for metal ion adsorption, which favored a high adsorption capacity. Additionally, the Pb(II) adsorption process was fitted to pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isothermal adsorption models. This suggests that the Pb(II) adsorption process was dominated by a chemical reaction process and that chemisorption was the rate-controlling step during the Pb(II) removal process. In addition, the adsorbent exhibited good stability after six consecutive reuses.

        Meta-Analysis of the Diagnostic Efficacy of the Luminex xTAG Respiratory Viral Panel FAST v2 Assay for Respiratory Viral Infections

        Purpose: Acute respiratory viral infections pose significant morbidity and mortality, making it essential to diagnose respiratory viral infections rapidly. In this study, the diagnostic efficacy of the Luminex xTAG Respiratory Virus Panel (RVP) FAST v2 test was evaluated on respiratory viral infections. Materials and Methods: Information was retrieved from electronic databases, including Embase, Web of Science, PubMed, and Cochrane Library, for systematic review. Studies that fulfilled predefined inclusion criteria were included. After the extraction of information, statistical software was utilized for quality evaluation, data analysis, and assessment of publication bias. Results: Eighty groups in fourfold tables from nine articles were included to perform statistical analyses. Therein, the mean specificity and mean sensitivity of Luminex xTAG RVP FAST v2 test for the detection of respiratory viral infections were 0.99 (0.98–0.99) and 0.88 (0.87–0.90), respectively. Additionally, the negative and positive likelihood ratios were 0.14 (0.11–0.19) and 87.42 (61.88–123.50), respectively. Moreover, the diagnostic odds ratio and area under the curve of summary receiver operating characteristic were 714.80 and 0.9886, respectively. Conclusion: The Luminex xTAG RVP FAST v2 test could be a reliable and rapid diagnostic method for multiple respiratory viral infections.

        Mechanism underlying 2n male and female gamete formation in lemon via cytological and molecular marker analysis

        The unreduced (2n) gametes have long been used in triploid breeding of citrus. In lemon, the previously reported mechanisms for 2n megagametophyte formation were controversial, whereas that for 2n pollen production is still unknown. Herein, the frequency of and mechanism underlying 2n megagametophyte and 2n pollen formation in ‘Eureka’ lemon were investigated based on cytological observation and genotyping of the triploid hybrids between ‘Eureka’ lemon and ‘Early gold’ sweet orange. As a result, 4.79% of the viable pollens of ‘Eureka’ lemon were identified as the 2n pollen with a larger diameter (70.16 ± 3.92 μm). The 2n pollen might be resulted from the formation of parallel spindles at meiosis stage II. Among the 204 plantlets regenerated from embryo rescue following the sexual cross, 12 were triploids as identified by flow cytometry. According to the analysis of heterozygosity transmission using 13 pericentromeric single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and 20 randomly distributed simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, 11 triploids were identified to be originated from the fertilization of 2n megagametophytes of ‘Eureka’ lemon, with a frequency of 5.39%. Among them, nine 2n megagametophytes were supposed to be arisen from the second division restitution (SDR), whereas the other two were from postmeiotic genome doubling (PMD). These results to understand the mechanism underlying 2n gamete formation in lemon are valuable for its efficient polyploid breeding.
