<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>PG 1351+489 is one of the 20 DBVs – pulsating helium‐atmosphere white dwarf stars – known and has the simplest power spectrum for this class of star, making it a good candidate to study cooling rates. We report accurate period determinations for the main peak at 489.334 48 s and two other normal modes using data from the Whole Earth Telescope (WET) observations of 1995 and 2009. In 2009, we detected a new pulsation mode and the main pulsation mode exhibited substantial change in its amplitude compared to all previous observations. We were able to estimate the star's rotation period, of 8.9 h, and discuss a possible determination of the rate of period change of (2.0 ± 0.9) × 10<SUP>−13</SUP> s s <SUP>−1</SUP>, the first such estimate for a DBV.</P>

<P>We report measurements of quasiparticle relaxation dynamics in the high-temperature superconductor (Ba,K)Fe2As2 in optimally doped, underdoped, and undoped regimes. In the underdoped sample, spin-density wave (SDW) order forms at approximately 85 K, followed by superconductivity at approximately 28 K. We find the emergence of a normal-state order that suppresses SDW at a temperature T{*} approximately 60 K and argue that this normal-state order is a precursor to superconductivity.</P>
Application of exact route optimization for the evaluation of a city logistics truck ban scheme

This paper presents an application of the exact solution approach for the Vehicle Routing Problem with Soft Time Windows based on the column generation scheme developed earlier by the authors, for evaluating a truck ban scheme from the environmental improvement aspect on a realistic logistics instance based on the Vehicle Information and Communication System data, which is an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) application in Japan. Two different types of truck ban schemes are evaluated, one which denies truck entry on congested links (with average speeds lower than a threshold) and the other with and without the availability of the ITS-based data to freight firms. It was found that the Uniform truck ban on low travel speed links can result in a win-win situation, improving the environmental conditions as well as reducing the operation cost for freight carriers in a scenario where freight carriers do not have access to ITS-based travel time information. While the use of an exact optimization method and with ITS-based historical traffic information still helps in reducing environmental impacts, freight companies are slightly worst-off as far as the operation cost is concerned.
