Field and laboratory investigation of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N6 and H5N8 in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam, 2020 to 2021

        Trong Duc Tran,Suwicha Kasemsuwan,Manakorn Sukmak,Waraphon Phimpraphai,Tippawon Prarakamawongsa,Long Thanh Pham,Tuyet Bach Hoang,Phuong Thi Nguyen,Thang Minh Nguyen,Minh Van Truong,Tuan Pham Dao,Pawin 대한수의학회 2024 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.25 No.2

Background: Avian influenza (AI) is a contagious disease that causes illness and death in poultry and humans. High pathogenicity AI (HPAI) H5N6 outbreaks commonly occur in Quang Ninh province bordering China. In June 2021, the first HPAI H5N8 outbreak occurred at a Quang Ninh chicken farm. Objectives: This study examined the risk factors associated with HPAI H5N6 and H5N8 outbreaks in Quang Ninh. Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in Quang Ninh from Nov 2021 to Jan 2022. The cases were households with susceptible poultry with two or more clinical signs and tested positive by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The controls were households in the same village as the cases but did not show clinical symptoms of the disease. Logistic regression models were constructed to assess the risk factors associated with HPAI outbreaks at the household level. Results: There were 38 cases with H5N6 clade 2.3.4.4h viruses (n = 35) and H5N8 clade 2.3.4.4b viruses (n = 3). Compared to the 112 controls, raising poultry in uncovered or partially covered ponds (odds ratio [OR], 7.52; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.44–39.27), poultry traders visiting the farm (OR, 8.66; 95% CI, 2.7–27.69), farms with 50–2,000 birds (OR, 3.00; 95% CI, 1.06–8-51), and farms with ≥ 2,000 birds (OR, 11.35; 95% CI, 3.07–41.94) were significantly associated with HPAI outbreaks. Conclusions: Combining biosecurity measures, such as restricting visitor entry and vaccination in farms with more than 50 birds, can enhance the control and prevention of HPAI in Quang Ninh and its spread across borders.

The Effect of Contextual Factors on Resistance to Change in Lean Transformation

Duc Trong TRAN,Huong Thu PHAM,Van Thu BUI 한국유통과학회 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.11

The purpose of this paper is to uncover whether and how contextual factors (information exchange, participation, trust in management, and training), relate to resistance to change. It also explores the mediating effect of perceived impact of change on the relations between contextual factors and resistance to change. This study is conducted in several manufacturing plants in food processing industry in Vietnam, which is implementing a top-down large-scale change – Lean transformation, adopting Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program, to be specific. The findings suggest that all four contextual factors are negatively associated with resistance to change, in which training had the strongest impact. Also, the perceived change impact partially mediates the relationships between the four contextual factors and resistance to change. The practical implications of this paper are that employees who receive adequate, timely and useful information relating to change are less likely to show opposing behaviors towards change. Fostering trust in management among employees, and employee involvement in decisionmaking, also have a significant influence when addressing employee resistance to change. Employees who are well-trained, well-equipped with tools and knowledge about the change, are less likely to resist as they view the benefits of changes more significant than the risks.

Motion Control of a Quadruped Robot in Unknown Rough Terrain using 3D Spring Damper Leg Model

        Tran, Duc Trong,Koo, Ig Mo,Lee, Yoon Haeng,Moon, Hyungpil,Koo, Jachoon,Park, Sangdeok,Choi, Hyouk Ryeol 제어로봇시스템학회 2014 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.12 No.2

This paper presents a simple method to control the motion of a quadruped robot in unknown rough terrain using a full dynamic model. First, using the stiffness control method, the behavior of the four legs is approximated using four 3D spring damper systems. In this way, the dynamic model can be derived in Cartesian space. Based on this model, a control strategy is proposed to preserve the asymptotical stability of the system. In addition, a reflex motion control is introduced to cope with the rotational disturbance of the robot body. Finally, dynamic simulations and experiments of a quadruped walking robot were performed on unknown rough terrain to verify the proposed method.

Opposition multiple objective symbiotic organisms search (OMOSOS) for time, cost, quality and work continuity tradeoff in repetitive projects

        Duc-Hoc Tran,Long Luong-Duc,Minh-Tin Duong,Trong-Nhan Le,Anh-Duc Pham 한국CDE학회 2018 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.5 No.2

Construction managers often face with projects containing multiple units wherein activities repeat from unit to unit. Therefore effective resource management is crucial in terms of project duration, cost and quality. Accordingly, researchers have developed several models to aid planners in developing practical and near-optimal schedules for repetitive projects. Despite their undeniable benefits, such models lack the ability of pure simultaneous optimization because existing methodologies optimize the schedule with respect to a single factor, to achieve minimum duration, total cost, resource work breaks or various combinations, respectively. This study introduces a novel approach called ‘‘opposition multiple objective symbiotic organisms search” (OMOSOS) for scheduling repetitive projects. The proposed algorithm used an opposition-based learning technique for population initialization and for generation jumping. Further, this study integrated a scheduling module (M1) to determine all project objectives including time, cost, quality and interruption. The proposed algorithm was implemented on two application examples in order to demonstrate its capabilities in optimizing the scheduling of repetitive construction projects. The results indicate that the OMOSOS approach is a powerful optimization technique and can assist project managers in selecting appropriate plan for project.

Impact of EVFTA on Trade Flows of Fruits between Vietnam and the EU

Duc Trong TRAN,Van Thu BUI,Ngoc Minh VU,Tung Son PHAM,Hue Minh TRUONG,Thuy Thu DANG,Tu Van TRINH 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.5

The European Union Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) took effect on August 1 paving the way for increased trade between the EU and Vietnam; this marked a huge turning point for the Vietnamese economy. Agriculture products, especially fruits, must be listed when it comes to Vietnam export industries that profit the most from EVFTA. After a period of study, with the desire to contribute to the improvement in the efficiency of Vietnam’s agricultural products to the EU, the researchers want to assess the impact of the EVFTA on the flows of Vietnamese fruits to the EU market. The study uses a quantitative analysis method via the WITS-SMART model with data on export turnover and tariff reductions in parallel with the analysis of changes in factors affecting the trade flows of fruits between the two markets when the EVFTA takes effect. As a result, Vietnam’s fruit importing from the EU is expected to escalate by 29.18% in 2021, while the flow of export will only inch up by 0.955%, which is rather low compare to the increase in import value. Hence, effective policies must be introduced in Vietnam to innovate production methods and increase product quality, so that the EVFTA can be used to boost Vietnam’s fruit exports to the EU.

Development and Validation of a Vision-Based Needling Training System for Acupuncture on a Phantom Model

        Trong Hieu Luu,Hoang-Long Cao,Duy Duc Pham,Le Trung Chanh Tran,Tom Verstraten 대한침구의학회 2023 대한침구의학회지 Vol.40 No.1

Background: Previous studies have investigated technology-aided needling training systems for acupuncture on phantom models using various measurement techniques. In this study, we developed and validated a vision-based needling training system (noncontact measurement) and compared its training effectiveness with that of the traditional training method. Methods: Needle displacements during manipulation were analyzed using OpenCV to derive three parameters, i.e., needle insertion speed, needle insertion angle (needle tip direction), and needle insertion length. The system was validated in a laboratory setting and a needling training course. The performances of the novices (students) before and after training were compared with the experts. The technology- aided training method was also compared with the traditional training method. Results: Before the training, a significant difference in needle insertion speed was found between experts and novices. After the training, the novices approached the speed of the experts. Both training methods could improve the insertion speed of the novices after 10 training sessions. However, the technology-aided training group already showed improvement after five training sessions. Students and teachers showed positive attitudes toward the system. Conclusion: The results suggest that the technology-aided method using computer vision has similar training effectiveness to the traditional one and can potentially be used to speed up needling training.

        Delay-Constrained Energy-Efficient Cluster-based Multi-Hop Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks

        Trong-Thua Huynh,Anh-Vu Dinh-Duc,Cong-Hung Tran 한국통신학회 2016 Journal of communications and networks Vol.18 No.4

Energy efficiency is the main objective in the design of awireless sensor network (WSN). Inmany applications, sensing datamust be transmitted fromsources to a sink in a timelymanner. Thispaper describes an investigation of the trade-off between two objectivesinWSN design: minimizing energy consumption and minimizingend-to-end delay. We first propose a new distributed clusteringapproach to determining the best clusterhead for each clusterby considering both energy consumption and end-to-end delayrequirements. Next, we propose a new energy-cost function and anew end-to-end delay function for use in an inter-cluster routingalgorithm. We present a multi-hop routing algorithm for use indisseminating sensing data from clusterheads to a sink at the minimumenergy cost subject to an end-to-end delay constraint. Theresults of a simulation are consistent with our theoretical analysisresults and show that our proposed performs much better thansimilar protocols in terms of energy consumption and end-to-enddelay.

Development of a Quadruped Walking Robot AiDIN-III using Biologically Inspired Kinematic Analysis

        구익모,Duc Trong Tran,이윤행,문형필,구자춘,박상덕,최혁렬 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2013 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.11 No.6

This paper presents a bio-inspired mechanism design for a quadruped walking robot. The approach is derived from the observation on the behaviors of quadruped locomotion, skeletal structure, and the study on the stability of walking based on morphological analysis. In the first, we define the design parameters such as the dimensions of the body and limbs, the center of mass position, and locomotion mechanisms based on surveys on the literatures from biologists. Then, by using the parameters, we propose an useful framework for determining the design parameters of a quadruped walking robot. For implementations, we manufacture a dog-type self-contained quadruped walking robot, named AiDIN-III (Artificial DIgitigrade for Natural Environment version III) and the effectiveness of the proposed idea is validated via experimental works.
