The waste produced by bamboo stick production processing was collected from a Vietnamese craft village and used as a source of microfibril cellulose (MFC) for a filler of unsaturated polyester (UP) resin based composites in this study. A mixture of MFC in UP was obtained by directly introducing the bamboo pulp into UP resin followed by a grinding process using a ball-grinding machine. A master batch method was also adopted for composite preparation, in which a high-content solution of MFC in UP resin was first fabricated and then diluted to prepare another solution with the desired content. Morphology and mechanical characteristics of UP resin based composites were investigated. Effect of different methods of preparation, such as hand lay-up and vacuum bagging methods, on the mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced UP resin composites was also examined, showing that the tensile strength of composite materials with 0.3 wt% MFC was increased by 10.24% (for the hand lay-up method) and 19.62% (for the vacuum bagging method) when compared with the pristine composite material. The flexural strength increased from 192.40 MPa to 208.63 MPa and the impact strength increased by 19.6% from 158.28 kJ/m2 to 186.84 kJ /m2 for the hand lay-up method.

Jejunal Dieulafoy lesion (DL) is an exceedingly rare, life-threatening cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. Due to its rarity, intermittent bleeding symptoms that often necessitate prompt clinical intervention, variability in detection and treatment methods, and the risk of rebleeding, this condition frequently presents a diagnostic and therapeutic conundrum. We report a case of severe, intermittent, recurrent hematochezia due to a jejunal DL that was difficult to localize. In this case, the metallic coils used as a radiopaque marker allowed surgeons to accurately identify the bleeding site during intraoperative enteroscopy and successfully manage the lesion with minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.
Ischemic Colitis Presented as Pseudomembranous Colitis: An Untypical Case from Vietnam

Ischemic colitis (IC) is an underreported chronic disease characterized by the hypoperfusion of the bowel mucosa. The diagnosis and treatment may be challenging because its clinical course resembles other colitis or even colorectal malignancies. This paper reports an untypical case to underline the diversity of IC manifestation. A 68-year-old man with several comorbidities was admitted because of abdominal pain with a 6-month duration and a mass in the left lower quadrant. Colonoscopy revealed erosive pseudomembranous colitis narrowed colon segments with ulcerated mucosa mimicking colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. The stool cultures and Clostridium difficile toxin tests were negative. After the failure of conservative therapy, the Hartmann procedure with temporary ileostomy was performed uneventfully. The histological results of the surgical specimens revealed IC with focal pseudomembranous areas.

This paper presents an effective method for enhancing both the mode I (GIC) and mode II (GIIC) interlaminar fracture toughness of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy resin (CFRE). For precursor materials, silk fibroin nanofibers (nSF) and rice husk silica were prepared from sustainable resources. Nanocomposite samples were prepared using various loading ratios of the silica and nSF in epoxy resin (EP). Mechanical stirring and sonication techniques were used to prepare homogenous mixtures of silica and nSF in epoxy resin. Non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry and the Kissinger equation were used to examine and calculate the cure kinetics and activation energy (Ea) of EP and the composite samples. The CFRE sample with hybrid fillers of nSF and silica at the ratio 0.2/20 (wt%/wt%) exhibited the highest GIC, and improved upon the mode-I and mode-II toughness of the pure-resin sample by 36.08% and 30.06%, respectively. Study of the fracture surfaces indicated that adding nSF and silica as fillers increases the energy required to fracture the CFRE.

Background/Aims: Accurate neoplastic prediction can significantly decrease costs associated with pathology and unnecessary colorectal polypectomies. Narrow-band imaging (NBI) and dual-focus (DF) mode are promising emerging optical technologies for recognizing neoplastic features of colorectal polyps digitally. This study aimed to clarify the clinical usefulness of NBI with and without DF assistance in the neoplastic prediction of small colorectal polyps (<10 mm). Methods: This cross-sectional study included 530 small colorectal polyps from 343 consecutive patients who underwent colonoscopy at the University Medical Center from September 2020 to May 2021. Each polyp was endoscopically diagnosed in three successive steps using white-light endoscopy (WLE), NBI, and NBI-DF and retrieved for histopathological assessment. The diagnostic accuracy of each modality was evaluated with reference to histopathology. Results: There were 295 neoplastic polyps and 235 non-neoplastic polyps. The overall accuracies of WLE, WLE+NBI, and WLE+NBI+NBI-DF in the neoplastic prediction of colorectal polyps were 70.8%, 87.4%, and 90.8%, respectively (p<0.001). The accuracy of WLE+NBI+NBI-DF was significantly higher than that of WLE+NBI in the polyp size ≤5 mm subgroup (87.3% vs. 90.1%, p<0.001). Conclusions: NBI improved the real-time neoplastic prediction of small colorectal polyps. The DF mode was especially useful in polyps ≤5 mm in size.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this work, we have investigated the magnetic properties and the magnetocaloric effect of La<SUB>0.7−x</SUB>Na<SUB>x</SUB>Ca<SUB>0.3</SUB>MnO<SUB>3</SUB> compounds, which were prepared by a conventional solid-state reaction technique. The Rietveld refinement results suggested that the samples are single phase belonging to an orthorhombic structure (space group <I>Pnma</I>). Analyzing temperature dependence of magnetization <I>M</I>(<I>T</I>) revealed that the Curie temperature (<I>T</I> <SUB>C</SUB>) increases with increasing Na content (<I>x</I>). Their <I>T</I> <SUB>C</SUB> value is found to be 260–298K for <I>x</I>=0.0–0.1, respectively. Base on <I>M</I>(<I>T</I>) data measured at different applied magnetic fields (<I>H</I>), temperature dependence of magnetic entropy change Δ<I>S</I> <SUB>m</SUB>(<I>T</I>) data for all the samples was calculated by using a phenomenological model. In the vicinity of <I>T</I> <SUB>C,</SUB> -Δ<I>S</I> <SUB>m</SUB>(<I>T</I>) curve reaches a maximum value (denoted as |Δ<I>S</I> <SUB>max</SUB>|), which gradually increases with increasing <I>H</I>. Under 12kOe, the value of |Δ<I>S</I> <SUB>max</SUB>| is in a range of 1.47–5.19J/kgK corresponding to the relative cooling power RCP=57.12–75.88J/kg. Applied the universal master curve method for the magnetic entropy change, we concluded that Na-doped in La<SUB>0.7−x</SUB>Na<SUB>x</SUB>Ca<SUB>0.3</SUB>MnO<SUB>3</SUB> compounds leads to modification the nature of the magnetic phase transition from the first- to the second-order.</P>
경동맥 압력 및 직경 파형을 이용한 혈관벽 점탄성 파라미터의 평가

동맥경화 진행에 따라 혈관벽 중막의 평활근 세포 구성비 변화로 인해 혈관벽은 점탄성 특성이 바뀌고, 혈압에 의한 혈관벽 운동이 변화하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 심장 주기 동안의 혈관 내강의 변형 파형과 혈압 파형을 추출하여, 혈관벽 점탄성 특성을 정량적으로 평가하는 연구를 수행하였다. 혈관 내강의 변형을 측정하기 위해 동맥경화 진단을 위해 촬영된 경동맥 초음파 영상(B-mode)를 이용하였으며, Carolab 프로그램을 이용하여 총경동맥의 내강 변형을 자동으로 측정하였다. 혈압 파형은 맥파 전달 속도(Pulse Wave Velocity) 검사 자료에서 상완 동맥 혈압 파형을 추출하였고, 환자의 연령과 평균 혈압을 고려하여 문헌에서 제공하는 상완 동맥 혈압 파형과 경동맥 혈압 파형을 통해 주파수 영역에서의 변환 함수를 결정하였다. 변환 함수를 이용하여 환자의 주파수 영역에서의 상완동맥 파형을 경동맥 파형으로 변환하고, 역이산 푸리에 변환(Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform)하여 시간 영역에서의 경동맥 혈압 파형을 추출하였다. 혈관벽의 탄성은 영계수 E_P (Peterson’s Elastic Modulus)를 계산하여 평가하였고, 점성 특성은 혈관 변형 파형과 혈압 파형 간의 위상 차와 압력-직경 곡선을 통해 계산된 에너지소산율(Energy Dissipation Ratio) 및 점성 계수를 이용하여 정량적으로 평가하였다. 계산된 점성 특성 파라미터들은 서로 유의한 양의 상관관계가 있음을 확인하였으며, 향후 동맥경화 진행에 따른 혈관벽의 기계적 특성 변화 확인에 대한 유용한 정보를 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
