Objective-This study was aimed to determine effectiveness and tolerability of Osmotic-controlled Release Oral delivery (OROS) methylphenidate (MPH) and its optimal dose administered openly over a period of up to 12 weeks in drug naïve Korean children with ADHD. Methods-Subjects (n=143), ages 6 to 18-years, with a clinical diagnosis of any subtype of ADHD were recruited from 7 medical centers in Korea. An individualized dose of OROS-MPH was determined for each subject depending on the response criteria. The subjects were assessed with several symptom rating scales in week 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12. Results-77 of 116 subjects (66.4%) achieved the criteria for response and the average of optimal daily dose for response was to 30.05±12.52 mg per day (0.90±0.31 mg/kg/d) at the end of the study. Optimal dose was not significantly different between ADHD subtypes, whereas, significant higher dose was needed in older aged groups than younger groups. The average of optimal daily dose for response for the subjects aged above 12 years old was 46.38±15.52 per day (0.81±0.28 mg/kg/d) compared to younger groups (p<0.01). No serious adverse effects were reported and the dose did not have a significant effect on adverse effects. Conclusion-Optimal mean dose of OROS-MPH was significantly different by age groups. Higher dose was needed in older aged groups than younger groups. Effectiveness and tolerability of OROS-MPH in symptoms of ADHD is sustained for up to 12 weeks.

This paper proposes an easy-to-use design methodology for a class of damped dynamic vibration absorbers based on a sort of meta-heuristic method - the so-called particle swarm optimization (PSO). This optimization technique attracts a lot of attention recently in many fields because of its user-friendliness and superiority to dealing with various kinds of complex optimization problems. To this aim, it is first shown how to formulate a nonlinear constrained optimization problem for designing a class of damped vibration absorbers. Second, a novel particle swarm optimization algorithm, DPSO-QI (distributed PSO with quantum infusion mechanism), is proposed. It is a user friendly but efficient scheme for improving the search ability of global optimal solution in various complex optimization problems. Finally, some numerical results are compared with those of conventional researches, which demonstrate a reliability of the proposed design method.

<P>Cell transplantation using hepatocytes derived from stem cells has been regarded as a possible alternative treatment for various hepatic disorders. Recently, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from the bone marrow have shown the potential to differentiate into hepatocytes in in vitro and in vivo conditions. Noninvasive imaging techniques allowing in vivo assessment of the location of cells are of great value for experimental studies in which these cells are transplanted. We labeled human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) with green fluorescence protein (GFP) and superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) using a transfection agent (GenePORTER). Cellular labeling was evaluated with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of labeled suspensions, and Prussian blue staining for iron assessment. hMSCs labeled with SPIO and GFP were injected into the portal veins of immunosuppressed, hepatic-damaged rats. MR imaging findings were compared histologically. To identify the differentiation of hMSCs into hepatocytes and to trace the hepatocytes with molecular imaging, we observed the potential of SPIO and GFP double-labeled hMSCs to differentiate into hepatocyte-like cells in the regenerating rat liver. Serial MR imaging showed the possible detection of transplanted cells in the early period of transplantation. Our results indicate that magnetic labeling of hMSCs with SPIO may enable cellular MR imaging and tracking in experimental in vivo settings.</P>

본 논문은 3층으로 구성된 멀티미디어 그룹프리젠테이션을 위한 확장 운영체제인 COSMOS에 관한 논의를 한다. 상위층인 COSMOS 쉘및 비쥬얼 프로그래밍환경과 중위층인 스크립트언어 그리고 하위층인 멀티미디어 프리젠테이션및 입출력서버시스템이 있다. 이 확장 운영체제는 사무환경에서의 멀티미디어 프리젠테이션및 그룹웨어를 지원하는 기능을 한다. COSMOS쉘은 화일및 디렉토리 브라우져, 다중아이콘관리를 한다. 비쥬얼 프로그래밍 환경에서는 비쥬얼 언어를 편집 한다. 비쥬얼언어는 COSCRIPT에서 지원하는 멀티미디어 프리젠테이션및 그룹웨어를 위한 메타포를 인터프리터하거나 하부의 입출력 서버시스템의 API로 변환한다. 하부구조인 CORE는 미디어간의 동기, 통합, 프리젠테이션, 그룹사용자 관리, 회의시스템관리, 멀티미디어 데이타 관리등을 한다.

Engineering optimization problems usually contain various constraints and mixed integer-discrete-continuous type of design variables. This paper proposes an efficient particle swarm optimization (PSG) algorithm for such problems. First, we transform the constrained optimization problem into an unconstrained problem without introducing any problem-dependent or user-defined parameters such as penalty factors or Lagrange multipliers, though such parameters are usually required in general optimization algorithms. Then, we extend the above PSG method to handle integer, discrete and continuous design variables in a simple manner, but nevertheless with a high degree of precision. The proposed PSG scheme is fairly simple and thus is easy to implement. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, several mechanical design optimization problems are solved, and the numerical results are compared with those reported in the literature.
