<P>Ligand exchange processes have been attracting tremendous interest and are necessary when fabricating nanocrystal (NC) thin films for various applications. As ligand exchange processes are based on solution treatment processes, understanding solvents’ effects on the ligand exchange process is necessary. Herein, we investigated the effects of exchanging solvents and rinsing solvents on silver (Ag) NC thin films during the ligand exchanging and rinsing steps. We studied the relationships between solvent properties, such as polarity and steric hindrance, and the structural, electronic, and electromechanical properties of NC thin films. A model system was proposed to explain the obtained relationships. We found that exchanging solvents and rinsing solvents during the ligand exchange process should be separated to regulate the ligand exchange process so that films with desired properties can be obtained. Films optimized for different purposes (highly conductive/highly electromechanically sensitive) were fabricated with the same materials and ligands using different solvents for each process. On the basis of these films, we fabricated a flexible strain sensor using an all-solution process at room temperature. This device exhibits excellent performance, including a high gauge factor up to 400, and high reliability, and stability; furthermore, it can detect minute human motion and sound.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Development of a Selective Medium for Surveillance of Fusarium Head Blight Disease
Hosung Jeon,Jung Wook Yang,Donghwan Shin,Donggyu Min,Byung Joo Kim,Kyunghun Min,손호경 한국식물병리학회 2024 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.40 No.1
Fusarium head blight (FHB), predominantly caused by Fusarium graminearum and F. asiaticum, is a significant fungal disease impacting small-grain cereals. The absence of highly resistant cultivars underscores the need for vigilant FHB surveillance to mitigate its detrimental effects. In 2023, a notable FHB outbreak occurred in the southern region of Korea. We assessed FHB disease severity by quantifying infected spikelets and grains. Isolating fungal pathogens from infected samples often encounters interference from various microorganisms. We developed a cost-effective, selective medium, named BGT (Burkholderia glumae Toxoflavin) medium, utilizing B. glumae, which is primarily known for causing bacterial panicle blight in rice. This medium exhibited selective growth properties, predominantly supporting Fusarium spp., while substantially inhibiting the growth of other fungi. Using the BGT medium, we isolated F. graminearum and F. asiaticum from infected wheat and barley samples across Korea. To further streamline the process, we used a direct PCR approach to amplify the translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF-1α) region without a separate genomic DNA extraction step. Phylogenetic analysis of the TEF-1α region revealed that the majority of the isolates were identified as F. asiaticum. Our results demonstrate that BGT medium is an effective tool for FHB diagnosis and Fusarium strain isolation.
Distributed Video Coding for Illumination Compensation of Multi-view Video
( Seanae Park ),( Donggyu Sim ),( Byeungwoo Jeon ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2010 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.4 No.6
In this paper, we propose an improved distributed multi-view video coding method that is robust to illumination changes among different views. The use of view dependency is not effective for multi-view video because each view has different intrinsic and extrinsic camera parameters. In this paper, a modified distributed multi-view coding method is presented that applies illumination compensation when generating side information. The proposed encoder codes DC values of discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients separately by entropy coding. The proposed decoder can generate more accurate side information by using the transmitted DC coefficients to compensate for illumination changes. Furthermore, AC coefficients are coded with conventional entropy or channel coders depending on the frequency band. We found that the proposed algorithm is about 0.1~0.5 dB better than conventional algorithms.

As disasters increase worldwide, more and more researchers are getting interested in disaster logistics focusing on when and how to allocate the relief products to the disaster areas via distribution networks. In this paper, we analyze the related research papers on disaster logistics published from 2002 to 2016, and investigate the research trends related to disaster logistics. To analyze the research trends, we used four different criteria: disaster types, corresponding author areas, management timing, and the type of research papers. The results show that 1) the related papers continuously increased; 2) lots of the past researches have focused on earthquake; 3) disaster logistics for post-disaster situations have gained much attention in comparison with pre-disaster situations; and 4) Most of the past researches are categorized into ‘optimization’and ‘concept study’in terms of the type of research papers. The analysis results provide the future research direction on the disaster logistics, and will be helpful to those who have an interest in this research area.
Overview of Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) and Its Coding Performance Analysis
Minhun Lee,송현주,박지윤,Byeungwoo Jeon,Jungwon Kang,김재곤,Yung-Lyul Lee,강제원,Donggyu Sim 대한전자공학회 2023 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.12 No.2
Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) is the newest video coding standard jointly developed by the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET), which is organized by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). H.266/VVC provides about 40% bitrate reduction compared with High Efficiency Video Coding (H.265/HEVC) for the same visual quality. This paper introduces in detail the core structure of H.266/VVC by highlighting its features within block partitioning structure, intra/inter prediction, transform, quantization, and in-loop filtering, compared to its predecessor (H.265/HEVC). H.266/VVC yields significantly improved the coding performance, but it increased the computational complexity, particularly for the encoder side, which remains a problem to be tackled for successful commercialization in the future. This paper examined the statistical performance of H.266/VVC coding tools from the bitstreams encoded by the VVC test model (VTM12.0) encoder through rate-distortion optimization under the JVET common test conditions. In addition, the complexity and performance analyses are conducted on the block partitioning structure and group of picture structure. It is expected that an optimized H.266/VVC encoder can be designed and developed by minimizing the coding loss based on the analysis data.

Background: Spinal nerve ligation (SNL) model is one of the representative models of the neuropathic pain model. Neuropathic pain in a chronic post-ischemic pain (CPIP) mimics the symptoms of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). The administration of polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), which has regenerative and anti-inflammatory effects, has been studied and is used in clinical practice treating various diseases. However, the analgesic effect of PDRN in a neuropathic pain or CRPS model remains unknown. Methods: PDRN (3.3, 10, and 20 mg/kg) was administered into the subcutaneous (SC) layer of the hind paws of SNL and CPIP models. Mechanical anti-allodynic effects were then investigated using the von Frey test. In the immunohistochemical examination, dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and the spinal cord were harvested and examined for the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) after the 20 mg PDRN injection. Results: Mechanical allodynia was significantly alleviated by administration of PDRN in SNL and CPIP mice at all of the time point. As the dose of PDRN increased, the effect was greater. The 20 mg PDRN injection was found to have the most effective anti-allodynic effect. The increased expression of GFAP in DRG and the spinal cord of SNL and CPIP model decreased following the administration of PDRN than vehicle. Conclusion: SC administration of PDRN results in the attenuation of allodynia and activation of astrocytes in neuropathic pain or CRPS models. We propose that PDRN can have significant potential advantages in neuropathic pain treatment.
